4.25/5 rDev -0.7%
2007 bottle, consumed 2/3/10
Appearance: Pour is a deep mahogany brown, little head, but then bubbles spring forth nicel. No lace, but a bright amber-lit looker.
Nose - Cocoa, sherry, port, , toffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, tobacco, and fruit.
Taste - Cocoa, sherry, toffee, and port again (was this barrel aged?), there is something going on that I can't quite grasp. Cherries and berries I suppose, along with the caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, tobacco, and fruit. Just sweet enough. It is good, but for some reason the flavors are neither pronounced or distinct.
Mouthfeel - full and silky smooth but a bit chewy, could not ask for more.
Drinkability - Highly drinkable, you do not notice the 11.8% abv, but then again it is a very small bottle
It is good, but nothing really distinguishes it. Very mellow. Nice by-the-fire sipper, and I like that it has a bit of oxidation to it.
