This Triple Bock is dark brown with ruby highlights. It is extremely rich and complex, with flavors of raisin, plum. There is a slight heat from alcohol and has low carbonation. It is full bodied, malty and sweet– you big beer lovers should try this beer.

Appearance - The beer poured a murky brown color with modest carbonation climbing the sides of the glass.

Smell - The nose brought to mind a port. It was malty yet had a fruit sweetness.

Taste - Everything about the beer was bold. Initially, it was malty, but had prune and red grape notes. The malts were almost chewy and lingered into the finish. It was sweet but well balanced with bready malts.

Mouthfeel - The profile was chewing with malts and little carbonation.

Overall - Though triple bock is not an official style, this is a great example of a big beer that is not overdone.

355 ml bottle, vintage 2011, kindly shared by abemorsten. ABV is 12.5%. Dark brown colour, minimal head. INTENSE sweetish malty aroma, bordering on "sickly". Strong oaky notes too, hints of liquorice. Low carbonation. Very malty flavour, sweet and oaky but not extreme - however, the maltiness is not balanced by sufficient hops.

Muddy red with a thin, fizzy tan head that quickly disappears into almost nothing.

Fig, caramel, toffee, cherry and leather in the nose. Very barleywine-esque.

Sweet cherry, fig and bread pudding up front in the taste, with some chocolate and leather behind, all tempered by a kiss of earthy bitterness and fairly strong alcohol.

Syrupy, full-bodied feel with fizz cutting through.

Very tasty. Any BiL aficionado will appreciate the depth of flavors in this one. 2017 bottling.

Appearance – This poured a dingy brown in color with a surprising little head. The foam was dark brown and very attractive but of course did not last long.

Smell – The molasses nose has a bit of alcohol sting but otherwise is pretty simple and straightforward as a bock should be.

Taste – There’s a strong sugary sweetness here that I didn’t catch at the smell and the alcohol comes charging on full speed. There’s also a bit of musty character that goes well with the flavor profile.

Mouthfeel – This is then and true to the style with no bitterness of course. There is a bit of a sting though from all the booze.

Drinkability – Surprisingly easy to drink for a 12.50% beer. It’s an interesting take on the style to booze up a bock without making it too big and they pulled it off nicely. At $10/bottle probably won’t buy again but a nice experience.

Vintage: 2017.
Normally I would say that these big, boozy malt-based beers are good to age but in this case I think it’s best to drink fresh. You wouldn’t want to sweeten up this beer any more than it is and it already has a nice, musty character.

L - 1-finger yellowish head atop a caramel-brown body.

S - caramel, vanilla, molasses, dark fruit.

T - follows the nose. Loads of raisin, vanilla, fruit cake, with a good hit of booze. Low bitterness. Moderate sweetness. Moderate booziness.

F - medium body and carb.

O - a tasty nightcap.

'15 vintage.

This one pours a fairly dark caramel brown color, with a very small head, and no lacing.

This smells like toffee, Rolos, port, dark fruit, black cherry, chocolate, and caramel.

At 3 years old, this has become so smooth, malty, rich, and surprisingly not boozy. It's warming, though, with a huge rich and port-soaked malt character. It's pretty fruity, with dark cherry, dark grape, and juicy raisin. There's also candied caramel, toffee, and fruitcake. This is delicious.

This is medium bodied, but slightly syrupy, with a very low level of carbonation.

Kuhnhenn always seem to spin some magic with the big malty beasts here.

Very modest dusting across the surface of a yellowish tan hue, gone swiftly, the lacing is wispy and scattered. The liquid is a murky dark brown with an orange tint around the edges, fully opaque with a greater quantity of visible bubbles than expected, albeit moving lazily. The nose is rife with raisins, dates and milk chocolate, has a breadiness which verges on pastry, starts to develop a burnt smokiness as it warms. Full-bodied if hollow in the mid-palate, the sweetness seems to have receded which provides more space for the tart cidery, vinous notes. The chocolate, butterscotch going strong, black licorice, cola bean and candied ginger abound. The cherry, green apple, yellow raisin, fig fruit flavors steady enough but lack intensity. The carbonation does an okay job of showing up given the thickness of the liquid. Boozy but without burn. Doughy, bready through the attack, gone by the finish. Biggest flaw may be that it does not build to a meaningful crescendo, starts off well then meanders. Maybe was more powerful in its youth. (2011 bottling)

Clear caramel brown filling to a darkening cloudy brown with a bright tan, almost orange head that quickly settles to a tan collar but can be swirled back.

As promised they bring it with the heavy maltiness on the nose right up front, with caramel, graham, wheat, roasted nuts, a little wood, faint gingerbread, hints of sassafras and pumpernickel.

Taste is a very rich and complex (wouldn't ya know?!) mix of flavors that coat the tongue in a very pleasant way. I get dark cocoa gingerbread, chocolate covered graham, and slightly overcooked raisin oatmeal cookies. As it warms it gets very on the prune front. Actually, too much so.

Quite sweet, but not overly so, with a fullness and a slight bite of alcohol. There's a nice froth when swished, finishing slightly dry but mostly slick and a little sticky.
