Poured into a Kuhnhenn tulip glass. Pours a deep, dark brown with some ruby highlights around the edges. Thin, tan head that is slow for form and quick to disappear, leaving a mere wisp of foam around the edges of the glass.
Aromas of oak, vanilla, dark fruits, prunes, raisins, intense caramel and a punch of alcohol.
Flavors of sweet, cloying caramel, oak tannins, vanilla, prunes, licorise, and plummy sweetness. A bite of alcohol heat at the back end of the sip.
Mouthfeel is thick, cloying, no hint of carbonation. Very full and almost syrupy. Some heat from the alcohol.
Overall very nice. The barrel aging is spot on, and marries nicely with the dark fruits from the beer. An amazing marriage.
