Big thanks to AleWatcher for sharing this bottle!
2010 Vintage. I've been sitting on a bottle of the non-barrel-aged version of this, waiting to do a side-by-side; and then this is brought over in a surprise strike. Guess I can't be too upset, right? It pours a mostly clear sienna-ruby topped by a finger of dirty off-white foam. The nose comprises caramel malts (a big whiff of a generic malt bag, baby), light bourbon, very light oak, vanilla, butterscotch, and very light roasted malts. The taste holds notes of light cocoa, sweet toffee, light bourbon, oak, vanilla, buttercream, mandarin orange syrup, and caramel. The body is a stolid medium, with a light moderate carbonation and an almost chewy feel. Overall, a very good brew, one that, on the surface, at least, seems to have taken to the barrel aging rather well. Get some.
