This beer was served from the tap at One-Eyed Betty’s in Ferndale, MI. It arrived in a generic tulip, glowing the bright, straw colored hue of gold bullion. It held a one finger head of tan bubbles, showing decent retention. No haze or sediment was noted, and carbonation appeared light. The aroma was palpably sticky and heavy with grapefruit hops, sweet honeys, and pineapple sugars. To match was chalky rice graininess, stark plastic and chemically phenols that took on polish remover with warmth, huge sting of booze, and crayon waxiness. The hops, too, changed with warmth, giving more bitter herbals and the high pitched scream of perfume-floral hops. Our first impression was that the flavoring was very juicy and sweet, with nice hop bitterness to balance. As we sipped, grapefruit and lemony hops crashed the palate, with a quick shift to musty herbs, honey sweetness, pale and toasty grain, plastic phenols, and vodka booziness to bring us to the peak. Here we met hollow booziness, sweet cherries, and freshly sliced pineapples. The continued herbal hop bitterness actual helped to dull the booziness a bit. We finished with more pale malts, coiny metallics, apricot sweetness, citric and herbal hoppiness, dill, and mashed basil. The aftertaste breathed of musk, peppery booze, burnt pale grain, grapefruit hop resin, fresh grassiness, and hugely spicy phenols. The body was medium, and the carbonation was medium. There was soft pop, nice slurp and smack to each sip. Froth and cream were lesser, but not noticeably negative. The mouth was left bone dry following an oily coating and coolness. The abv was big, but this sipper was easy.
Overall, what we enjoyed most about this beer was the insanely bright aroma. This showed such a wild blend between fresh grapefruit-zested hops, strong booze, and phenols. This helped to keep this guy no nonsense. The taste followed nicely, with even balance between the sweets and the bitters. The booze did come out more strongly with warmth, so beware if you’re not all about that. This is a soft, fresh, unique, and highly drinkable beer.

Draft in a glass at Slows BBQ.
A nice golden hue to the drink, not too opaque, slightly watery yet classy looking.
Not too much I can smell besides hops.
Upon drinking a sharp taste of hops jumps right into the playing field with a small amount of malt before quickly dropping off. I prefer a more full-bodied taste to my beer and this ends too quick to get much flavor.
The rice gives a nice crisp finish though and that is where this beer stands out. No hippy bitterness left on your tongue. The rice gives it a crisp end, refreshing in the same manner as a Sprite would. This is a great thing and a downfall. For the high price of the drink, it can be sipped away quickly. This is a great starter beer and is almost too sippable.

Had on tap last week in NYC. Appearance is light yellow and slightly hazy with little head.
Odor was light with hops green being the main component. There were some notes of citrus as well.
Taste was complex. Starting with green hops and continuing with fruity notes. Malt also is present, but only lightly. Tiny bit of tropical fruit.
Mouth feel is smooth and easy drinking. No trace of heaviness and a nice finish with little bitterness. Refreshing.
Overall, a very nice surprise for me personally. Easy drinking and pleasant. Balanced. Leaves you wanting more.

Growler consumed about 2 hours after fill.
A - Clear gold body, fluffy white head has good retention and lacing. Really looks great in the glass.
S - Hop forward citrus, grapefruit, tangerine. Oat, fresh white bread, doughy sweetness as it warms.
T - Follows the nose, finishing with more pine flavors. Mild caramel/honey sweetness mid-palate. Moderately bitter considering style, staying well balanced and bitter with the sugary sweetness subdued.
M - Medium body, medium carbonation, prickly hops across the palate, finishing mostly dry and moderately bitter for style.
O - This is really a great DIPA, and I'm not sure why I don't hear this mentioned more as one of the best. Well rounded hop character and depth of flavor, unique sweetness, well balanced for the style. A trip to the Detroit area is not complete without getting this.
