Notes/Commercial Description:
Amber in color; unfiltered, so it is not crystal clear. Quite bitter with a balance of malty caramel-like sweetness. Aroma is of intense dry hopping; meaning- lots of hops were added late in the beer making process post boiling.

On tap at the Park Bar in Detroit. Can't believe it has taken me this long to try the regular old American IPA from Kuhnhenn. The color is stunning; it's perfectly and purely amber, no traces of other hues or colors here. The clarity is also exceptional - I could probably read fine print on the other side of the glass. The cream cap is porous and chunky with decent retention, though not much lace is left behind, surprisingly enough.

Mmmmm.... Centennial hops! Being an "American" IPA, I'm sure the brew has a combination of C-hops (though I'm not sure), but the aroma's telling me that the heavy hand went to Centennial; the aroma reminds me a bit of Two Hearted, actually. Floral and citrusy at the same time; light perfume, juicy white grapefruit, and mild leaves. Malt is heavy, too, lying somewhere between toasted bread and caramel. Decent aromatic balance, I love the way this smells.

Unfortunately, the taste doesn't knock my socks off quite like the aroma did. It's got an up-front, hoppy bitterness that didn't really stand-out as much in the aroma. My palate is grazed with floral hops, light pine, stinging perfume, pungent grapefruit, and some sweet tangerines in the finish. The hops also inject a slightly spicy aspect, like faint white pepper. The bitterness starts strong and slowly fades into the finish.

Malt is just as heavy, maybe even heavier, in the flavor; the bitterness shadows it for the first half of the sip, but it holds fast during the latter part once the bitterness makes its decrescendo. The finish is actually quite sweet from the malt; think tangy-sweet, buttered and toasted bread rolls and a decent helping of caramel, with just a hint of grapefruit still lingering. Medium bodied, wet and less-than-sticky mouth feel with ample carbonation.

If this one tasted as good as it smelled, I might have fallen in love. Unfortunately the flavor falls a bit short of what was promised in the aroma. Still a good beer, though, no doubt, and something that IPA fans and Kuhnhenn fans will most likely both enjoy. Still, I'd reach for Fluffer or Loonie Kuhnie over this if available.

Many thanks to beernut7 for this one of many...bottled in April '05...not super fresh, but still well within its prime.
Pours a very attractive clear amber color w/ a full two fingers of white head...a decent amount remains on top and some decent lacing is left behind.
Nice aromas filled w/ juicy fruit hops and sweet malt...no alcohol detected and very inviting.
Taste is enjoyable...a fairly hefty dose of hops, definitely taking the front seat on this offering. I would prefer a bit more malt to balance out the hops...the aftertaste is quite bitter and lingers a bit.
Mouthfeel is average and the carbonation is nice...another good beer from KBC and one more I have been fortunate enough to get my hands on. I would enjoy a few of these if given the opportunity.

Pours a creamy foamy off-white head. The body appears hazy and deep orange brown. Aroma is of earthy hops and a kiss of citrus. The earthy hop flavors is also present in the flavor, but the citric character is much more prominent. Still there is plenty of malt backbone to back it up and the beer is well-balanced for the style. Medium smooth body.

A nice a IPA from the Kuhnhenn Bros. I found the appearance a little sub-par as it appeared like apple cider. Apart from that I found this to be a well-crafted, well-balanced IPA. I particularly liked the balance between citric and earthy hops.

64 oz growler, filled at the brewpub and then split with several friends. This was served into several tasting glasses.

Pours a clear copper, topped with a about a finger of eggshell-white head. This stays rich and frothy, leaving creamy swathes of lace down the sides of the glass. The aroma is floral and dank, with green citric tones and some lighter notes of resins and spice coming out as well. Caramel and bread character from the malts nicely come out across the back of the nose, adding somewhat of a sweet tang here. This is maybe a little muted but there are still some good flavors coming out.

The taste has a solid balance of malt and hops going on with it, with plenty of resins, spice, earth, and citrus (which is bordering on the more tropical side) being nicely evened by a backbone of toast, biscuits, and caramel. Neither sides seem to take absolute control of the profile but this does finish more on the hoppier side, with plenty of lingering herbal accents, bitter fruit, and earthy dryness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a sharp creaminess to it. There is also some oily slickness that weaves in and out of the body, keeping this smooth in the mouth with no alcohol taste, despite this having a bigger presence on the palate. Nice.

I was pleased to find that this lived up to it's name, with a well balanced American hop profile and a crisp, yet slick, body that enabled it to drink very smoothly for the size. All around solid IPA here.

Pours highly carbonated with a orange/amber glow. Huge head dissipates slowly leaving a curtain of lace on the pint
Aroma is sweetened caramel with pine and citrus hop notes.
Flavor is decently balanced and nice mix of sweet and bitter. some grapfruit rind flavor comes out in the finish after a coating of sweet caramel.
Mouthfeel starts with a sugary sweetness that is then cut by some pine tar and finishes with a sweet citrus/grapefruit. Nice progression and transition of flavors that I would expect in an IPA.
Drinkability is good. Bottle probably doesn't do this justice.

Tasted on a piligrimage to the brewpub.
"Pint"glass poured with plenty of white fine head, on a base of orange- ish yellow. Maybe a little bit too carbonated. The aroma is quite "green" and has that "fresh" hop smell I adore. The taste is right on for the style, with just the right amount of bitterness to balance that residual sweetness undre the surface; that hop bitterness does sit there in your mouth for a good minute or two after a sip. The pine and citrus flavors/ aromas balance VERY nicely. Feels awfully nice in the mouth, and not too heavy for the style. This is really just a little too easy to drink.

On tap @ Hop Cat.

A - Pale yellow/orange colour with a small amoutn of white head.

S - Light nose. Some sweet and earthy hop aromas and not much else.

T - Floral, herbal and earhty hops. Bitterness is light with fairly prevalent sweetness and some grainy and bready malt flavours. The hop profile seems to be completely dead on this one. Not sure if Hopcat was sitting on an old keg or if I was served the wrong beer, but based on the other reviews, it seems like something was wrong with my glass.

M - Light to medium body with moderate carbonation.

A: The beer is hazy copper in color and poured with a quarter finger-high off white head that has good retention properties and consistently left a thin head covering the surface and lacing running down the sides of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of pine reins hops in the nose along with notes of grapefruit.
T: The taste has flavors of pine resin and grapefruit from the hops and hints of caramel from the underlying malts. It has a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very balanced and also quite flavorful.

From notes at brewery.

Wow this beer was great.

Very dark orange semi clear color. Off white head hangs around and so does the lacing.

Full bodied great semi sharp carbonation. Cirtus and grapefruit hoppyness in the smell and taste. Very robust in the taste.

This was our second round and my dad ordered: Double DRIPA while my gf ordered: the white devil. Both were better then the last round.

Growler filled at the brewery about 5 hours ago

a - pours a deep copper color with a two-finger ivory head, pretty good retention and lacing, slight haze

s - grapefruit and pine bitterness mixed with a nice caramel malt backbone, a little alcohol heat

t - somewhat sweet up front with grapefruit hoppiness mixed with caramel malt, midpalate is fairly malty for the style, caramel and light biscuit malt, finish dries out a bit with more grapefruit and piney bitterness lingering on the palate, a little hot, definitely not a West Coast style IPA in that it leans heavily on a malt backbone

m - medium-bodied, moderate carbonation, slightly dry on the finish, but a bit sweet for the style, fair amount of alcohol warming

d - the well-balanced finishes makes this easier on the palate than many IPAs, and there is a nice maltiness that balances out the hop bitterness and adds depth, however, the alcohol is evident and not all that well-hidden at 6.3%

Very solid IPA that I always enjoy having had several growlers over that past few years. This is a nice change-up from the hopbomb IPAs that I tend to lean towards. Yes, Kuhnhenn brews good beers under 10%.

Appears an orange with a lush thick, soapy white head. Lots of streaky lacing.
Smell is of citrusy hops, which are standing out above anything else.
Taste is of bitter citrus hops with some malt trying to come through but failing.
Mouthfeel is creamy but bitter with a heavy need for a sugary malt balance.

On tap at Blind Tiger in NYC: pours hazy copper amber color with a small creamy tan head that faded fast (which I suspect was from a crappy pour), leaving very good spotty lacing.

Smells of big citrus hops up front, with orange peel, grapefruit, lemon, pineapple, floral hops, sweet malt, caramel, a touch of piney hops and mild spices; a nice West Coast IPA nose that was sweet and fruity.

Tastes of big citrus hops, orange peel, grapefruit, lemon, pineapple, floral hops, sweet malt, caramel, grains, herbs, piney hops/pine cone, coriander, faint brown sugar and mild spices like pepper; almost tastes like dry hops were added as this is potent, floral and full of citrus flavor. Very hop forward and tasty, hiding the ABV completely.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp and oily slick, with mild carbonation, a medium body and a nice bitter citrus finish. High drinkability, this flew down and was very tasty. A session IPA indeed which I recommend trying as it was quite enjoyable.
