12oz brown bottle. Pours a dark, cloudy and dirty looking burnt orangey-brown beer with medium-sized bubbles that rise and give way to a thick white foam head. Settles to an okay lace with weak stick to the glass. Some of the dregs from the bottle seem to loom at the center top of the pour, like a dark storm cloud. Spooky.
Aroma is quite nice with fruity esters, overripe peaches, fresh grain and plenty of bubble gum in the nose. Hints of sugar. Phenolic, baking spices. Wet earth.
Medium-bodied. Sharp on the palate with raw funky fermented edge and backing citric snap. Green apple-y flavor and apple skin feel on the palate follows, with a sweet and tart nectarine character and fruitiness. Dull orange rind and skin character that you might find in a tea. Green banana flavor/feel. Sugary notes. Dry and muted spices of allspice / clove. Odd oily clingy linger in the dry finish.
Hmm ... though it's interesting and worth the try, it's not overly drinkable. I do like the uniqueness of this beer, and flavors that make you think, but one was enough. Interesting use of hops for the style, but I don't think it works.
