Bottle into tulip

Appearance: darker amber orange with white half finger head

Smell: simcoe citrus/grapefruit, very floral earthy hops, alcohol, guava and other tropical notes, bubblegum

Taste:you notice the alcohol, not overwhelming but surely not hidden. Lots of clove and bubblegum, some coriander notes as well. Some floral citrus notes blend well with the subtle malt backbone. Hardly bitter at all.

Mouthfeel: decently carbonated, but could possibly use more to make booziness more subtle. Very full bodied beer

Overall: My first Kuhnhenn, i enjoyed this one a lot. Expecting huge floral/simcoe notes but they werent really dominant over the alcohol, has some elements of a scotch ale mixed in. Pretty expensive and wont seek out, but will buy again as it was a refreshing well balanced brew.

12oz. bottle poured into an IPA glass.

(A)- Pours a deep caramel orange amber color. Produced a nice cap of white froth. Good retention and lacing too considering this beer's ABV

(S)- A big combo of a spicy yeast met with candied pineapple and apricot citrus. A touch of pine.

(T)- A big burst of candied pineapple, orange, and apricot meets a subtle yeasty spice kick in the middle. Finishes smooth and sweet.

(M)- A good carbonation level and balance. The fruity sweetness might get to be a bit much, but that yeasty kick helps settle it.

(O)- This really reminds me of a more successful, less boozy 120 Minute. Better balanced and more dynamic with the belgian yeast addistion. An exciting and enjoyable beverage.

2012

Smooth apple juice appearance (nice reds) with thin crust of white head. No lacing. Good legs

Phew, Smells hot (still). Lots of pear, red apple, tobacco, leather, and funky european inspired yeast. I'll take-it or leave-it.

Harsh forward carbonation. Lots of juicy pear and hot burn of caramelized sugar. Flavors are rather unthoughtout. Even with a fucked up flavor, there's still some apple flavors that are quite nice. Bitterness is odd and sweetness is too. Bubble-gummy, chewy.

Hum. This is a very odd beer. Highly earthy and undertoned. I can't imagine it was any better fresh, by far the biggest mess I've had from kuhnhenn. Sadly, can't recommend.

Thanks to the guy who taught me how to trade properly, beerisheaven, for this, among other, bottle of Kuhnhenn. 12 oz. bottle split with my wife.

First, the bottle is capped Kuhnhenn style - half-assedly, barely intact, like a homebrew where you didn't exert enough force, & the cap edges are all winged out. Not the first Kuhnhenn bottle I've seen like that, but thankfully, there's a serene hiss when I pop it. Pour is straight see-through orange with a low carbonation-to-surface-area ratio. Swirling coaxes mild but varied scents: fruity, almost slightly Belgianesque yeast, bubblegum. Very. Odd.

Simcoe Sillier should be able to something I could snap & blow bubbles with. Bubblegum, the old pink-and-sugar kind, dominates. Underneath is a healthy floral spiciness, sweet honey, faint pine. Slight bitterness in the middle gives way to more sweetness. One more beer that should come in nip bottles - yowza.

Overall this is a wild, wintry beer that outdoes itself. Give the brewery full props for all the crazy shit it pulls. Plenty of huge hits, but some broken noses, too. This is somewhere in the middle, but the bubblegum...decent, but nothing I need to revisit.

Thanks to erric for this one and lots of goodies from Kuhnhenn. Shared with rudzud.

Light fizzy smaller head, touch of lacing, semi hazy copper slight reddish color.

Nose boozy sweet malt, candy slight syrupy, Belgian esters, light phenols too, big sweet aromas with a bit of honey, simcoe is there but less than I expected, a light musty cat piss but also some tropical fruit with a light pineapple, grapefruit, touch of citrus, light candied orange peel.

Taste is very different than I expected, a bit fruity flavor like generic fruit punch, big booze, esters, phenolic booze, apple and pear like, light cardboard too. There is some simcoe, musty cat piss again, light pineapple, touch of citrus, etc. Fair bitterness. Then sweet syrupy malts, Belgian like golden with a sweet syrupy candy. There is a honey too, but a dried honey, and big earthy dirt like flowery honey flavor. Very strange overall flavor. Finish is still syrupy sweet, fair bitterness, more booze, light phenols and esters, but if sticky candy malts, dried honey, and but of pineapple and simcoe hop flavours, late yeasty flavor too.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, despite tasting the alcohol it doesn't burn, lighter carb too.

Overall not impressed at all.

Thanks to JLindros for sharing this bottle.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice lightly hazy amber hue with a thin white blanket that leaves light side lacing and a thin blanket.

S - Aromas of light Belgian notes, light esters, simcoe notes are super faint, light booze on the back end.

T - Taste is a tough boozy, faint on the simcoe unfortunately. Good Belgian notes, light Casio malts, slight esters. The finish is quite boozy. Light cardboard notes as well...meh

M - Mouthfeel is average bit hides the alcohol well though.

O - Overall I was rather underwhelmed by this beer. Not much simcoe at all, just a glass of disappointment.
