Standard bottle - purchased from John's Marketplace.

Pours semi-hazy, somewhere between golden and amber. One finger of head, pretty decent lacing down the glass.

Hoppy smell, but not overpowering - sweet fruit, less pine/grapefruit and more on the grape juice front. You know you're rolling with an IPA, but it's not punching you in the face about it.

Extremely smooth on taste - as noted by others, it's not going out of it's way to kick down the doors on hop content the way some brews in the category go for. Little toasty on the taste buds, definite shot of hops, creamy mouthfeel, finishing with a bit of bitterness, but nothing overpowering. Alcohol content comes close to matching the ABV. You know it's there, but it's not going out of the way to *let* you know, if that makes sense.

Extremely drinkable - this is a balanced and smooth IPA. It doesn't go out of it's way to blow you out of the water with hop content or alcohol levels. Would recommend to any fans of the type.

Drank from a can, a nice tasting, basic WC IPA.

Picked this up while out in Oregon earlier this year as it seemed quite local in origin and design. Indeed, this was something that was quintessential for that part of the country as it was quite hoppy with a nice balance to it, as this came across as a classic from yesteryear. If you like your IPA's to be full of hops, grain, and old-school in feel, then you have your match right here!

This had a nice, clear nut hue to it as it was topped off with a nice amount of spongy, bready head that smoothly settled down. A moderate amount of lacing remained with spots and sections of rings being present in equal amounts. Lots of grain, almonds, walnuts, earthy hops, and fall fruits were in the nose as the taste was just as nuanced. Bread, phenolic ester, yeast, and local hops emerged in the taste as this was plenty complex without being overly strong or bitter. Belgian in nature but out of the Pacific Northwest in spirit, there was enough to like here as the aftertaste was herbal and full of spiced bread as this reminded me of something from Yards in Philadelphia. Old-school in feel, there was enough going on here with a metallic and doughy aftertaste that left me with an impression from yesteryear.

Not a lot of alcohol in this as the little warming I felt was on par with everything else going on here. Canned on 3/9, this was industrial in appearance since it was too wide to fit into the holders that I had here. British in feel but American at heart, this was a worthy flagship for something out of the Pacific Northwest, without being overly hoppy and oily. A subtle pine aftertaste reminded of this brew's roots while leaving me wanting for more. Get this beer if you live in the Beaver State!

Look: Nearly clear reddish-amber with a silky off-white head that billows up and settles to a lid, leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Orange, grapefruit, fresh baked bread, some pine, apple skins, and caramel notes
Taste: Follows nose well and starts with a citrus fruit punch along with some rich, bready malt notes. As the maltiness subsides, pine comes in and grabs the hop reigns from the citrus before caramel cleans up, along with a nice bite
Mouthfeel: Full, medium-high carbonation, and light to medium dryness on the finish
Overall: I dig it. There is a lot of nostalgia for me with this beer as it helped me get into not only craft beer in general, but IPA’s when I started my journey over 15 years ago. It is still tasty and a classic C-hopped WCIPA with citrus and pine, but also in the time when IPAs also had a strong malt base to go along with all the hoppiness. Delicious and glad it’s still made and packaged

Darker IPA and strong. Drinking it very cold is best. I'll never forget ordering this at a bar on a whim. If you have a chance to go up to NE Oregon to buy from the source, make a trip out of it and do it.

the first beer i have had from these guys, although i have been seeing it more and more around the state, mostly in the grocery stores, but i found this one on tap. its a reasonably well made ipa as they go these days, layered and interesting enough, but the balance isnt quite right for me. for one, its weird to have some yeast character in an ipa thats neither english nor belgian nor wild, but there is a light almost phenolic ester thing going on here, pear and pineapple to it, all in the finish, not unappealing just different. the hops are only moderately bitter, but seem about equal in terms of aroma and flavor, some pine and juniper in the nose, a little more bitter orange and grapefruit flesh in the taste, but rather full spectrum. its off dry, and the grain has some sweetness, with a biscuit and honey aspect, and a slightly bigger body than it needs i think. its easy to be critical of ipa for being generic these days, so i appreciate this one for not being that way, but i also think it could be a little more refined, perhaps a little less ambitious on the malt side, and with a slightly less obvious fermentation profile. that said, i enjoyed it and wouldnt refuse it in the future. looking forward to trying a few more from these guys and getting a little more familiar with their portfolio. this is a good introduction it seems.

12oz bottle for a 6 pack, no bottling date

Pours about a finger of white head into my can style glass, pretty fluffy looking. Head retention is pretty damn impressive, after 5 minutes I’ve only lost half of the head. Thick initial lacing. Body is a dark copper, hues of orange and a lot of brown. Visibility is medium. Loads of bubbles coming up. The color is concerning, but overall it looks great so far.

Nose is not sweet at all, like I was expecting from the dark body. Regardless, I’m not very impressed – soapy is the first thing I think. Hop aroma is a pretty one dimensional, sharp, bitter smell. Maybe the smallest note of lemon. Malts are not very present. Smells very off, perhaps a little papery. Oxidation usually doesn’t come across as papery to me, but maybe I caught the right (or wrong) batch. This is what happens when you don’t date your bottles folks!

Flavor is much the same, and damn, this is rough. Lemon is there, but it does not manifest itself well here. Definitely soapy as well. Bitter, sharp, flavorless hops are not very tasty either. Maybe the smallest malt note. This doesn’t taste particularly oxidized to me, just not good.

As the beer warmed, the flavor mellowed out. I might bump this up to a 3, but definitely not anything higher, you can’t have things taste that off for the majority of the beer.

Carbonation is on the lower end. Body is medium, maybe a tad below. Not sweet at all, bitterness is relatively pronounced. Not a bad mouthfeel once you stop noticing the soap.

Drinkability started off pretty rough, got better as it warmed.

The appearance was wonderful, too bad considering the rest of the beer. Thick lacing all the way down the glass, head hung around in some fashion most of the way, and had great retention in general.

Overall this started very poor, became barely acceptable as it warmed, overall not very good.

The prototypical PacNW C hop C malt beer. Pours an amber color, 1/2" white head. Aroma of bittering C hops. Some pine and caramel.

Taste is mostly that grapefruit bitterness and crystal malt combo. Equal parts red ipa, english ipa and pacnw C hop crystal malt ipa. Grapefruit and caramel for days. Caramel resin bong loads. Bitterness clocks in around 55 ibu I would guess. Cascade, Chinook I imagine make up all the hops, maybe something otherwise pretty similar. Might not be any dry hopping. I guess this is more of a late fall early spring maltier kind of ipa if you had a hankering for such a thing. Its more like an example of an ipa from a time capsule at this point.

A dark amber pour, unusual for a west coast IPA in our experience. Moderate head, light lacing. This is not high on the list of those trendy citrus / fruity hop bombs so common nowadays. Good bitterness, with a lighter malt foundation. If I were to place it, it would be a British-style IPA.

Hazy, light copper color. Thin head, very little lacing. Aroma is stone fruit with yeast, bread, orange, and caramel malt. The flavor has some herbal and pine hops qualities. Big and dominant. Resinous, with a watery finish and thick mouthfeel. This was one of the earlier NW style IPAs with this kind of character, & I remember cutting my teeth on it. Good to revisit.

Pours a little dark, Good head, good lacing, tastes a little malty,
a decent beer, and a bit of a shift from the hop-end of the IPA spectrum.
