Wonderful session beer!

Draught at the brewery!!

Smells of pine, hop, and resin!

Taste: medicinal, hop, the Simcoe is really present! The finish is sharp and refreshing! The dry-hopping shined here.

Mouthfeel: Perfect!!

Overall, this craft brewery has done it again!!

Glass served at the Blind Pig Brewery in Champaign, IL
Arrives in a standard US pint glass
Review from notes

Blind Pig's APA is an excellent version of the style, appropriate for those who enjoy fruity, lucious hops balanced well with the malt base. This is truly one of the more enjoyable APA's I've tasted in recent memory.

Beer is served with a 2cm, off-white head of fairly dense foam, which gradually fades to a thin cap atop the beer. As the head recedes, it leaves some strong lacing along the sides of the glass. Body is a fairly dark orange-copper color, with a bit lighter orange and highlights displayed when held to the light. Beer is unfiltered, so everything is hazy, but some carbonation is still visible.

Aroma is full of grapefruit, tangerine, assorted other citrus, with some additional floral and herbal notes and subtle, biscuit-like malt.

Taste is similar to smell, with a complex mix of citrus flavors, some herbal components, and mild biscuit and/or bread-like flavors. Hops are forward, continuing through mid-palate, at which point malt sweetness and character becomes more noticeable, continuing through the close. Really enjoyable, could be partaken of over multiple glasses and not get tired of this.

Beer features a medium heft in body and mid-level carbonation. The effect is that the beer at first comes across as carbonated and crisp, but gradually foams slightly on the palate and finishes quite smooth. The hops and residual sugars lead to a dry close.

A: Pours a semi hazy golden orange color. A wispy two finger white head forms with excellent retention. The rocky foam leaves sheets of lace behind.
S: An excellent aroma of simcoe hops. Light citrus and grapefruit. Floral, herbal, and grassy hops. Lots of balance. Bread and biscuit malt. Really good.
T: Again, excellent. Fresh, floral, and grassy hops up front. Light grapefruit and citrus flavors. Lots of hops, but really well balanced with the malt. Caramel, bread, and biscuit.
M/D: A medium body and carbonation. Crisp and smooth at the same time. Really easy to drink. A great beer to quaff at the pub.

This is a really well made Pale Ale. There is an excellent balance, and the dry hopped simcoe hops are great. One of the best Pale Ales I have tried in some time. Highly recommended.
