Picked up a bottle of this in Montreal about a month ago along with some other Simple Malts. No freshness date.

Pours a hazed-copper with an inch of lingering creamy off-white head. Lots of carbonation and thick concentric bands of lace.

Mild aroma and flavor of malts and citric hops. Unfortunately, I'm also getting wet cardboard- possible oxidization. Hopefully it's just a bad batch or something.

341 ml served in a chilled glass..

Appearance - beer pours a hazy auburn colour with almost no head. There is no lacing and its tough to tell the carbonation levels.

Smell - The smell of hops is what hits me first then the citrus. Some pine is also present, very complete smelling beer.

Taste - Hops bring the taste to the front. I found the pine comes fwd with a bitterness at the end. The beer is full tasting from the tip of the tongue to the back of my throat.

Mouthfeel - the mouthfeel adds a tremendous amount of bitterness to this beer. I can really taste the pine come fwd in the mouthfeel.

Drinkability - I would have to say i am glad i tried this beer but it is not for me. I did not find it offered a full pallet of taste and was not as complete as expected.

341ml bottle poured into a water glass.

Pours a nice deep dark amber/brown with a small light white head. Nose is very malty and sweet, a bit hoppy but not overtly so.

Fairly well done for an English IPA, it's quite malty as to be expected, lots of british hop flavors as well. Somehow the alcohol comes through even at such a low level, there's a bit of a grainy finish as well. That being said the mouthfeel is smooth and mellow with out too much of that sharp bmc carbonation.

A nice serviceable IPA. Pleasant mid-brown coloured body with lots of off-white lace. Very faint hop aroma. Lots of caramel sweetness and British hops. Very drinkable, a bit above average mouthfeel and on the dry side. Pretty hoppy for an english IPA.

A- Ruby-amber is still and beautiful. Nice full lacing. Yellowish head didn't last too long.

S- Wood and grape candy. A little pine sap and tiger balm. Alcohol once it gets warm enough.

T- Sweet but tastes so much like wood. Tastes old.

M- Full with medium carbonation.

D- Feels good but doesn't taste that good.

This should be fresh since a brewery representative that was there told me it was delivered the day before but the hops in this are kind of dull.

Pretty dark for an IPA: dark reddish-brown. Head fades down to a thin beige blanket. Small amount of lacing.

Earthy hops, caramel malt and some astringency. Decent smell, a little weak though.

This is very much a British-style IPA, of which I'm not the biggest fan. For my taste it's quite weak on the hops, which are overbalanced by malt. To be fair, the bottle does state that it's an English IPA so I suppose the weak hops are appropriate for the style. I'm not sure what to say since this tastes very much like an English IPA, I'm just not a fan of the style. For my taste I would rate this as a 3; weak in flavour and too thin. As far as English IPAs go, this one is very good, maybe a 4.

Thin bodied, though I suppose it does fit well with the thin taste. It actually doesn't feel too bad in the mouth. Average carbonation.

Pretty drinkable but not something I would care if I ever drank again. Compared to all the great IPAs I've had the chance to sample, this one doesn't cut it. It's definitely better than Alexander Keith's but that isn't saying much. The name is a play on the French 'simplement', meaning 'simply'.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral hops with deep rich caramel malt is quite pleasing. Taste is also more oriented towards caramel malt and floral hops then most other IPA out there. Body is about average with good carbonation. This one is a lot more geared toward floral notes then an actual hops bomb I usually taste - well done and definitively something I could drink a couple in a sitting.

The beer color is copper, a little on the darker side... could be there is some red in it. The head is quite nice, very sticky... and beige. The aroma is hop up front with the presence of caramel malts. Typical English IPA I would say. Nothing close to the American IPA. Nice for a change! On the taste, I get some bittering hops with a malty finale. The malts are caramel. Nice. The taste is so good... way better than the aroma which it isn't bad too. The taste lingers in the mouth, very nice mouthfeel. Drinkability is high too.

Good beer!

a: dark amber in color, low head recedes to only a thin ring

s: heavy caramel body with a good deal of toasted toffee as revealed by the dark color, maybe some butterscotch, hops of average strength for the style - sweet citrus juices and a little minty

m: medium body, lighter carbonation

t: malt body heavy on the toffee and a little buttery, sweet malt syrups, hop flavor citrusy and minty, dig the malt profile, finishes with a crisp, earthy bitterness and lingering toffee and nutshell

d: a little sweet, but not bad - a little off style but an interesting beer regardless

A: Darker than I was expecting... almost bronze. A modest, 3/4 of a finger sized golden head.

S + T: Most definitely an English style IPA. Floral and leafy hops against a very robust malt backbone that provides a big caramel scent and flavour. There's a bit of a sweet and spicy note to it that does alright with the hop bitterness, but it does seem a little heavy on the malts for the style

M + D: Alcohol is not too intense, but robust flavour makes it a bit of a sipper. It's a pretty solid effort, though it could have more bitterness to it. Not among the better IPAs I have come across, but I'd give it another shot.

Dark Ruby-ish Amber Colour, brown in lower light setting, but very clear, not much haziness (is this filtered?). One finger head with little to no retention, a bit of spotty lacing.

Nose: A bit of pumpkin spice?? Sweet Caramel Malt, Not a huge amount of hop aromas for a classic IPA, which at an ibu in the 60's is a little disappointing....

Taste: Very nice! The sweet caramel toasty malt flavors of a red/dark beer, combined with grassy bitter hops. A nice combination.

Mouth: Low to medium carbonation, regular body. not very sticky.

Overall: Really nice, not very typical for a classic IPA honestly. IPA hops, combined with the malt flavors of a typical brown/amber beer. I tried several pale ales from the "simple malt" collection by brasseurs illimites, im not impressed, but theyre very drinkable. However, this one was probably my favorite!! If you can get it its worth a shot

Poured from a 341ml. bottle.

Appearance: A reddish, copper body appears which is a little hazy but mostly clear. Atop of that rests comfortably a nice thick 2-3 finger head.

Smell: Floral hops mixed with malt and a zesty citrus splash. Quite refreshing.

Taste: Good hop presence set against a good malt backbone. Grapefruit is fairly dominant but it also has a mineral feel to it. For some reason, the taste reminds me of spring and flowers.

Mouthfeel: Though this style is not my favorite, i cannot ignore the incredible balance of this beer. Smooth with a nice dose of bitterness without going overboard. Certainly not as rough as i would have thought. It does have a certain dryness that coats the mouth but there are very few weaknesses here.

Drinkability: At first, i found it a little difficult but i finished this brew enjoying it quite well.

Overall: Do not expect a typical American IPA as this falls squarely in the English category. For the style, top marks go to it. This is definitely a variation of the Golding. Better than i would have expected and i would seek it out again.

12oz Bottle

Appearance - The beer pours a murky orange/copper colour with a large beige frothy head. I can't make out much carbonation due to the murkiness of the beer. There is a ton of lacing on the sides of the glass and the head stuck around for quite a while.

Smell - hops, caramel, brown sugar, malts

Taste & Mouth - There is a lower than average amount of carbonation, but it works well with the full bodied taste of this beer. The most noticeable flavours are hops, caramel, cereals and a sugary sweetness. There is also a strong malt presence and the beer finishes with a lightly bittersweet hop/caramel aftertaste.

Drink - A pretty decent Canadian IPA that I would love to try really fresh - perhaps on tap.

A clear orange amber brew, the off-white big airy head settles slowly and leaves lots of lacing.

The smell is somewhat malty but mostly stingy hop aromas, nettles and wet grass.

Some sweet bread notes, very little sourness, lots of hay, grass, resin and herbs in the dominant hop register.

Low carbonation, soft, full body, and dry, long lasting dryness.

Well, I get mixed feelings, I like the hops, but they are nearly too much, but rather balanced with the sweetness.

Deep amber color, borderline brown. Crystal clear. Lumpy head that leaves a thin ring of lace.

Lots of caramel from a deeply roasted crystal malt. Plenty of perfume, although not much hop.

Dark malt start but the hop rounds off the flavor nicely. Rich body with a moderate carbonation. The aftertaste leans to the malt but it lasts a long time. This isn't for the hop lovers, but it is a well balanced beer.

Dated: NA
From: Zorprime, 341 ml

A: Dark hazy copper bodied with three fingers off off white head. Poor retention and leaves decent lacing.

S: Caramel malts, some biscuity notes and slight hops. Pretty weak aromas.

T: Much like the aromas, caramel malts and biscuits dominate with a slight hoppy finish. Not bad for a EIPA.

M: Light bodied and carbonation is on the low side. Sticky texture and leaves an interesting malty finish. No alcohol notes.

D: Thanks again Zorprime. This EIPA isn't all that bad. Not my styled, but not bad in any sense.

A - Amber with a white fluffy head and very nice lacing.
S - Grass and a bit of alcohol (surprisingly really) Some spicy odor as well...
T- Very malt heavy. A bit of a musty taste - unsure how to describe it. Was expecting citrus and pine but was sadly disappointed. A bit of bitterness but not much again. Bitterness overwhelms hop flavors unfortunately.
MF - clean and not bad. good carbonation.
D - Could drink a few, but wouldn't.
Would not seek this out again. Perhaps a freshness issue but there is no dating and was no dust on the bottle. Would try it again on tap, perhaps, to compare.
