I think this brewery is quite new on the scene. I already tried the Cascade IPA from them and like it (mmmm cascade hop!) so I was enthusiasm to try another product from them and this one does not disapoint. This one is something else but check this out :

A : Nice amber brown color with red reflections. White foam vanishing quickly.

S : Great! I am not saying it is the same smell, but it is the same feeling as when you smell fresh bred. You take a deep breath and know it is right! You can smell the honesty of the malt. Not so complex but it smell good heavy malt, biscuit like. The malt is really the dominent aroma. Curiously just by the smell you can tell they are using quality ingredients.

T : Delivering the merchandise! All that malt that you snifted earlier, it is now yours to taste and it is really good. A small hint of bitterness in the end to balance everything and you already want to take another sip.

M : Between thin and medium. Nice fine bubles help the taste explode your taste buds. I would be interested in trying a cask version if ever avaible.

D : Great ale! Nice honest beer for those times when you just want to enjoy life. A good alternative to macros because it goes down easily but it tastes way better!

I heard you can go pick up a crate of 24 directly at the brewery during week-ends. I defenitely have to go get some. With winter coming this is gonna be a great go to beer for just anyday. Good after mountain beer may be.

Orange-Brown with a tinge of red in colour, clear, decent white head that dies pretty quickly, no real lacing, but nice micro carbonation bubbles. Smell is slightly fruity over a sweet malt backbone..Taste at the start is more sweet, various light fruit flavours of red stone fruit, cherries, etc.... light florals a bit, light roasted malts....unfortunately the end is a bit strange with a dirty, earthy, paper(cardboard as others have described it), malt - bitterness that leaves a not overly nice after taste. Body is pretty light, with light carbonation.... it's easy drinking but not overly refreshing.

Overall, much like so many others that try to do a Altbier, or Red Ales, it just falls somewhat short of the mark. A ok beer to have on a hot day, but it'd have a hard time finding a place amongst the regular go to's. As with most Illimites beers, it is well made though and a decent price if you're having a few buddies over that aren't picky beer drinkers but want to try something other than PBR....

A: Red to copper. 2 finger white gorgeous head. Creamy and pillowy. Crystal clear and nicely carbonated. Lacing everywhere.

S: Big sugary malt, caramel, cola, no hop presence, some cream, German yeast. Lack of hop aromas.

T: Eww, odd as hell. It's the most mismatched oddity in flavor. Caramel, sweet, floral, dank hops that are odd and off flavored. Also a slight sourness is in the beer. Big sweet malt notes. Gross.

M: Overly sweet. Missed the styles need to be dry. The finish is sweet and almost wort like in flavor.

O: The appearance and aroma are great. The flavor profile and mouthfeel are terrible. Needs work.

I passed by the brewery and bought a 6 pack of their altbier and the owner gave me a bottle of their béta 6 which is not out yet which I found pretty cool!!
The beer is a reddish copper, that is quite clear. The head is thick and cream color. The beer has high carbonation and leaves a pretty lacing in the glass.
The smell is of roasted malts, maple, sweet fruits, and floral hops. Really amazing smell!!
The taste starts off with roasted malts followed by the fruity sweetness and the floral finish from the hops giving it a slighty hoppy finish. The beer is medium bodied with good carbonation, nothing too much.
Overall a great selection from Brasseurs Illimtés that I am glad I have a 6 pack!! I will definitely enjoy the rest, and suggest finding it!!

A- Clear reddish copper. Very nice color. Big light-beige head with average retention.

S- Cream soda(vanilla, marshamallow), caramel, metallic burnt grain and alcohol. A bit of cardboard. Lingonberry as it warmed.

T- Better than what I detected in the smell. A little roastiness. Cracker finish. After-taste isa bit cardboard like. The initial flavour is quite simple. Simple malt I guess... but it all gets dirty towards the finish.6.8%Abv very well hidden.

M- Medium, body, carbonation, mouthfeel and dryness.

O- Kind of a dirty beer. Okay drink but not a beer you crave.

Bottle from Broue HAHA.

A - Pours a nice dark copper colour. Bright. Medium carbonation. One finger fluffy beige head. Lacing clocks in at zero and the retention is a thin but admirable film.

S - Caramel is fairly evident with yeast and some earthiness. Bready also.

T - A little floral and grasssy with that earth again and some lighter caramel. Hops come through with a little pine also.

M - Proper carbonation with a medium to full body and a sweet finish with some earthiness.

O/D - I wasn't expecting much. Flavourful and mildly interesting. Doesn't really do much for me, but it was alright. Run of the mill.

Bottle from Marche Atwater. A nicely drinkable beer, although way strong carbonation. Pours soulfree brown (quotable) with a fancy creamy off-white head. Malty aroma, and rich malt taste, a little fruity. Some pepper. 34 IBU is there. Darn that carbonation.

Distinctively fruity altbier riding a nice malty sourness.

Presentation: 12 oz brown twist capped bottle. Simple label design centered on contemporary and informal typography with a minimal dark blue in the background where the blurry silhouette of a horse seems to emerge under the emblem. Front narrative includes a short description (in French), the back elaborates on the context and careful craft of the brew. Lacks evident date of bottling, shows IBUs (33), and 6.8% Alc. Served in a tulip glass.

A - Murky amber brown pour, 1/2" frothy head. Fair surface memory with nice lacing.

S - Soft nose, fruity sense over a malty note.

T - Surprising effervescent fruitiness, young cherries, sour range riding the palate until it reaches its malty base. A bit of soda as the sourness settles.

M - Medium body, and medium carbonation, which actually feels a tad higher with that sugary fruitiness, and lingers long in the finish.

D - If one is not taken aback by the fruity sourness this actually comes together nicely.

Notes: Not a brew for the masses, and I really don't know that well how it sits within altbiers, middle/upper bracket in my small experience. Nice one to try in any case, and I got a couple of friends in mind that might rather enjoy this.

12oz bottle. sampled march 2/2011.

pours a reddish brown with a nice dense light white head. the head drops fairly fast and leaves spotty lace.

aroma is nice. Fruity character.

taste is nice. toasted whole wheat bread. light alcohol. bit of earthy and herbal character. light toffee. bit of butterscotch. medium-low bitterness level - seems a bit high for the style. slightly fruity.

mouthfeel is pretty good. medium body. medium carbonation level.

drinkability is nice. a little more bitter than it should be, but fairly well balanced. seems to be lacking a little in depth. fairly nice overall though.

Pours a murky amber-brown colour with thin white head. Great head retention, with some mild lacing around the glass. Smell is of caramel malt, toffee and some fruitiness. Flavour is incredibly sweet, little bit boozy too, which is surprising since it isn't too high in alcohol content. Still a fairly tasty beer. Fairly high carbonation level. I'd prefer this to have a bit more hop presence, as I can barely notice any.
