Dark copper color and completely clear. Hard to believe that there was only a single malt here, given the darker color. No pale malt base? I find this to be pretty impressive. Moderate starting head which leaves some initial streaky lace.
Leans to the malt side--lightly caramelized. A touch of molasses. Little hop.
More balanced on the tongue. The malt is like the smell, but hop provides a touch of white pepper bitterness. Notable alcohol warmth in the background. Very rich with a correspondingly low carbonation level. Comes across as a run-of-the-mill amber ale.

It has more carbonation than I prefer on this style of beer
It's also a bit hoppier than expected (or desired) but it is a nice impulse buy I picked up while travelling through Quebec.

from a fresh 500ml bottle cellar temp into a nonick.. 5% abv 42 IBU
A lovely golden color with a thick off-white head. Quite lacy.
Smells of malt and some spicy sort of sweetness.
Tastes like a well made ale with a bit of extra hoppy bitterness.
Easy to drink with nice balance of mouth feel and carbonation. Some alcohol warmth as you empty the pint. Comparable to a St-Ambroise pale ale.

A: a coppery amber color with one finger of head and good retention.
S: Malty and cereal grain. I also get a bit of an estery aroma. Little hops coming through.
T: Very malty once again. I get deep crystal malts and some roast character too. Not much hops though IMO. I get a bit of a floral flavor along with some citrus and maybe a woody characteristic but its not all that apparent.
M: A bit over carbonated for my liking but its okay in terms of body.
O: A good beer but too malty and not enough of the showcase hop comes through IMO.

Poured into a half tulip.
A: Pours a nice copper colour, clear with not much action going on inside, nice head and decent retention.
S: Light hop smell, bit sweet/fruit on the nose and some maltiness.
T: Starts off with medium sweet malt flavours, followed by hops and carrying that through to the end with some bitterness. Pretty representative of the style, though with a bit more hops..
M: Very Light carbonation, though hits your tongue quite a bit, nice well balanced body though.
O: Overall a decent pale ale, not too boring but at the same time doesn't stand out greatly. Not the best offering from the Simple Malt line, but if Pale Ale is your thing, this beer is quite drinkable though the bitterness might get a bit harsh after a few.
