Beermongers is a place that i just recently discovered. I have been there a number of times but just to browse their bottle selection. Most of the time this was mid-day when the place was pretty empty.
Got a chance to attend one of their barrel beer events that proved to be awesome. The place was packed but there was still plenty of space to hang out and meet other BA's. Similarly, you can grab a beer from one of their 5 taps (constantly changing) at very reasonable prices and browse their bottle selection, then just add it to your tab at the end of the night. This can be dangerous to your bank account! Nevertheless their bottle prices are very reasonable and often are lower than some of the other local bottle shops.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes a solid craft beer selection at a good price. And if you want to drink your bottle there, feel free to do so. The employees are friendly and have a variety of glasses to accompany most beer styles!

The BeerMongers is a great addition to Portland's burgeoning bottleshop/taproom scene. The bottle selection isn't huge like a Belmont Station or John's Marketplace, but it is well-curated and very reasonably priced. The tap selection, while also small, features quality local brews.

The service is friendly and very helpful. The staff is very knowledgeable. The patrons are equally friendly. It's a nice place to stop for a pint or two and some good conversation.

Probably the only thing I dislike about these combo bar/bottle shops is that after a pint or two, it's much easier to drop too much dough on some (or many) bottles. But I can live with that.

BeerMongers is great! I like the new trend in Portland, and perhaps other places?, of the combo beer bar and bottle shop. This one happens to be at the same intersection as Apex, a new beer bar with solid selection and fair prices. But a strange vibe, at the Apex (to me) has sent me across the street to BeerMongers when I'm in the area.

I think there are just 4 taps, maybe 6? Unique, quality, local stuff. Staff are awesome and knowledgeable. Selection is something like 500 bottles, sold at retail prices but can be consumed on site. Staff open for you but no corking fee. Pretty sweet scenario, if you ask me. And prices? The 2006 Pannepot that was $9 at Belmont Station (love the place) was $6.20 at The BeerMongers. So my advice is see if BeerMongers has it first, then go on over to Belmont.

I just like to visit Portland, don't live there. But I'm saying this is a "don't miss" for the beer geek in PDX.

Been going here dumping large amounts of dough each time I go. Got to chatting with Sean a good many times, and must say they are all very knowledgeable there and extremely friendly. Lots of great rotating bottles always in stock and a super good small tap selection. Great place to hang out that isn't overly large and slammed busy. I usually go earlier than most there though. Attended a nice bottle meet there too which was cool of them hosting that. This is one of those bottle shops I frequent much more than the others because the prices are usually better, and the service is always much more friendly. Cheers!

Just started a little beer cellar recently and decided to drop by this place on the way home from work. The place itself while quaint and small definitely packs in a great selection of beer bottles. On a Thursday night BeerMongers was pretty busy and a number of people were engrossed in conversations over pints of deliciousness.

I asked what looked like a store clerk for help with my beer selection and got more than I bargained for. Josh, the clerk, was very helpful and had many thoughtful insights on which beers would age well. He was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions I could muster up.

While BeerMongers doesn't stack up with Belmont Station selection wise it is a place worth checking out for sure. I didn't try any of the beers they had on tap but their selections were pretty noteworthy. Another thing I noticed is that their markup on the bottles didn't run as high as some of the other bottle shops in town.

After drinking at Apex I hit BeerMongers for something to take back to the room. It wasn't very busy and yet for some reason I couldn't get the attention of any of the employees. I browsed for a bit and hoped they might wrap up their conversations, but then my curiosity got the best of me and I eavesdropped. Yep, personal chats with other people, not really at all beer employee/customer related.

The selection looked fairly impressive and it is an interesting location as far as architecture. I liked the convenience of the bus stop outside for a quick path to Victory down the street.

Stopped by here after my visit to Apex (they're pretty much kitty corner to Apex, so this is a convenient place to stop off and grab some beer to take home after one's visit there).

BeerMongers is a small, comfy looking place, with a small bar area, a couch and several tables and chairs. The day I was there they had 4 beers on tap, including C-note from Lompoc. If it weren't for the Apex nearby with their stellar selection, I can see where this might be a cool place to hang out and have a beer or two while you ponder the bottle selection in the two large cooler areas. As near as I can tell, everything they sell here is refrigerated, which is a nice option if you need to take something home for immediate consumption. Selection here was pretty solid, and I like how they have the coolers organized by style rather than by brewery. It's a nice change of pace. Quality of the selections was pretty high, with a nice selection of both imports and domestic craft. BM's doesn't have the biggest selection on the planet, but what they have is of very good quality, and I doubt they have much of a problem with inventory turnover. Prices seemed pretty reaasonable (supplication for $11, among other things).

Service was hard to gauge based on the one time I was there. There was only one employee, and he appeared to be working on some project on his laptop. He looked up to see if I needed any assistance (I didn't), but never got up to come speak with me or provide any advice/assistance. Hence the average rating for service.

As noted above, this is certainly a solid place, though given the other options in Portland, I'm not sure I'd call it a beer destination. I'd rather shop at Belmont or John's marketplace if I was planning on making beer haul, but this would be a great place to stop for a couple of bottles to bring home if you happened to be in the area.

Edit from 3/11. Had meant to update this previously, based on a BA gathering I attended here in 9/10. During that particular event, the bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable, and was quick to refill my glass with Maiden the Shade whenever necessary (despite the large crowd). I have updated the service score for this place accordingly.

I've been to The BeerMongers a couple of times now and anticipate myself returning in the future. Relatively small bar area with four to five taps at any given time, which rotate frequently. A couple of comfortable chairs and some reading material, in addition to a big screen TV which is usually streaming a sports event.

There's a usually a tasting event every weekend which is pretty cool. A couple of times it was promoting smaller brewers from the Portland area and one time it was a mixed of international and domestic beers. It can get pretty busy when these events reach their apex but it's never been uncomfortably crowded.

As others have commented, the individual who runs the place (or at least is always there when I go) is stellar. I believe his name is Sean/Shawn but I'm not 100% sure on that. He's always been down-to-earth and willing to strike up a conversation, no matter the topic.

The beer selection is pretty good and the prices are tough to beat anywhere else. Usually one cooler for each primary classification of beer (IPA, stout, porter, etc.). There are about nine or ten coolers in total; four or five of those primarily stock the international variety. I usually go to only buy bottles but I end up hanging out for a few beers and striking up conversation with the others present at the time.

The BeerMongers is such a welcome addition to Portland. I cannot express it enough. The individual that is consistently in there...possibly the owner...is the nicest, most knowledgeable and modest, super laid back dude. I've observed him listen to people talk about complete BS or be annoying and he's totally chill the whole time. Just loving life.

The beer selection isn't huge but it is of utmost quality. The prices are among the best in town. I really hope it stays this way. Time will tell.

There is a nice bar inside now and a TV. Caught a Blazers game there. It was laid back and there were some top notch beers on tap. A great place to relax and enjoy beer.

The most notable thing about this place is how cheap the beers are. I have no idea how they are able to price the bottles so low, and I mean crazy low. By far the cheapest in town. They carry all the major west coast and NW stuff, as well as a growing selection of international beers (again at ridiculous prices).

My best experience here was during a recent beer advocate tasting, where we got to hang out and mingle with the owner. Super nice guy. Having the taps in house now and a TV for sports is a nice touch and I definitely will be there to watch a game some afternoon.

Cool bottle shop, needs a bigger selection, but very promising.
