look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.5

A somewhat aggressive pour gives me a pretty good sized, one and a half finger head. The head is light brown in color, pretty dark for the head of a beer, even for a stout, but not too dark, it looks very nice. The head started off pretty fluffy and creamy looking, but has dissipated so fast that it is pretty much just your average one centimeter of bubbles. Not sure how the lacing will be, but judging by the lack of head, I doubt it'll be any good. The body is absolutely pitch black, for sure one of the darkest beers I've ever seen, which is saying a lot. There aren't even any hints of other colors in the body, it's just...black. Zero visibility through this beer. Can't see any carbonation due to the color. Overall not a bad looking beer, the head was pretty lame, but the extremely dark body kinda makes up for it. We'll see how the lacing goes, but for now the appearance is decent. Wow, that smell is really amazing. I'm trying to remember what beer this reminds me of, because it smells exactly like a beer I've had before, a really great beer. Dark, rich malts on the nose, for sure some chocolate and maybe some coffee as well in here. The smell is just very big, but also really clean and smooth smelling. Somewhat complex also, and overall just super good. It just smells so freaking good, I don't know what else to say, I'm excited! The taste is very rich and very very good. Flavors just kinda explode in ur mouth, and they take a little bit to sort out. The dark malts are extremely present, pretty sure there is some chocolate in here as well. Maybe some coffee, but if there is any it's not very present at all. The taste is very powerful and really demands your attention. There are a lot of flavors, and a lot of power to each of those flavors. With all this being said, there are for sure some rough parts to this beer. For one, it's pretty darn sweet, all the flavors and the alcohol nullify it a little bit, but it is for sure sweeter than I would like. The hops are also a little rough, it's good that they are there and that they are noticeable, but I dunno, it definitely makes things a little rough. Finally this beer is only 6.45% ABV, and the alcohol is pretty present, this is definitely the most annoying factor of the beer, I know that the ABV on this beer is higher than your average beer, but only by about 1%, the alcohol shouldn't be this present. I mean in retrospect the hops and the sweetness aren't bad, they just....I dunno, are weird. On some sips I really like those flavors, and on other they are a bit annoying. The alcohol however is always annoying. With all of that being said, it's still a really amazing taste. I'm going to have a hard time grading this beer, because it's so tasty, and it has such a big and flavorful taste, but it does have a few small problems. I'm trying to decide between 4 and 4.5. I'm really leaning towards 4.5, even though it might not totally be there yet. Yeah, it's a really great tasting beer, 4.5. The mouthfeel is good, the carbonation is a little high, but it works for this beer. The body is a little thin, but it's big enough for the style. Overall the mouthfeel is pleasant and it works for the beer, but a little thin and carbonated. Even though the alcohol is pretty noticeable, the beer is still pretty drinkable, because it is just so dang tasty. Overall it's a really awesome beer, and one that I for sure will have again if I have the option. Super big flavor, very good tasty, robust, full. There are some small drawbacks, but overall it's a really awesome beer.

The appearance turned out to be....not bad. The lacing was extremely patchy, and kinda all over the place. It followed me pretty far down the glass, but it wasn't that great, like I said. The head was bad from the beginning, but the body was very nice. So pretty bad lacing (but at least there was lacing), pretty lame head, and a great body, I'm thinking a 4 is fair.

Available only (mainly?) through the McMenamins brewpubs in the Portland, Oregon area, Terminator Stout is full-bodied and delicious, smelling of rich chocolate malts, coffee, deep brown sugar, milk chocolate, and cocoa.

On the tongue there's an immediate explosion of chocolate malts--with their deeply-toasted, almost charcoal notes--and hints of ash and tobacco. These are balanced by a bevy of deep, dark sugars, bearing not-so-subtle hints of pure cocoa, vanilla, and caramelized brown sugars. Coffee and extra-rich caramels dance lightly in the background, accompanied by a pleasing nuttyness. Hops provide a minimal background fuzz. The aftertaste is dominated by coffee and chocolate malt. Mouthfeel is medium-light--far lighter than would be expected, given the force of the flavors--and carbonation is fairly light.

Overall, it's surprising how easily and smoothly this stout goes down, no doubt helped by the stout's excellent balance between bitter and sweet flavors. An excellent stout for all--look for it next time you're out west.

A: black in color, thin foamy non-typical head, some lacing. Body looks light...as far as stouts are concerned.

S: sweet grains, burnt coffee, and sweet sugar

T: coffee and sour-like grains. Toffee/malts and maybe some molasses in their as well.

M: more like a porter in character due to its lighter carbonated body and feel. Its a kick on the medium to heavy side. Lingering weak coffee in the finish.

D: have one or two and call it good for me, not a big fan. I like my stouts much heavier than this boy.

Terminator Stout: Roast coffee in the nose. Also sweetish and fruity. The flavor offers caramel, cocoa, brown sugar and some coffee, but not much. It finishes with a note of dark fudge and brown sugar. Moderate bitterness. Overall not that roasty for a stout, and rather rich and malty. It's nicely done and tasty, but perhaps not balanced enough to offer continued drinkability.

One finger of tan head with a dark brown body.
The smell is a strong roasted malt.
Taste is roasted malt and burnt coffee. A bit bold and one sided.
Fizzy texture but only moderate carbonation with medium body.
Overall it's nice, but bold flavor profile.

Had this when I was much younger... one of my first craft beers I ever had on tap... and it must have been at the Kennedy School where I had it. But this review is from their East Vancouver location...

- Nice dark, clear brown... black... huge light mocha head.. pillows and sticks around lightly.

- Sweet creamy grain, light sugars, cocoa... slight coffee and mocha... light bitterness... slight earthiness... grassy..

- Creamy sweet grain, dark chocolate bitterness which is very light.. slight oats, grains, bread... cream...

- Overall a medium bodied stout... slightly chalky, very mouth watering....

- One of the better craft stouts around. Back in the day this would have been 'the' best.. now is still holds up to the huge array of stouts around. I don't know if this is one of John Harris's brews.. but it seems like it.

First had: on tap at McMenamins Pub oak hills Beaverton Or

Poured as black dark beer with small tan head. Malts, coffee and cherry chocolate. Great smooth flavor with coffee and chocolate. . Heavy-medium mouthfeel.

best stout on tap in while. Very impressed. Not impressed with Oak Hills but the stout was the highlight of dinner.

A - I liked the appearance, it had a nice head on it, the color and consistancy was good.

S - smelled smooth, cleans, had a rich coffee like aroma to it.

T - The taste was very good, but it wasn't spectacularly stand out in terms of taste. It was almost like there was a finish that it was missing. So while very good, it didn't quite take that next step into the area of excellence.

M - It didn't have a particularly noticeable mouthfeel. It was't anything to really write a lot about.

D - Sometimes I notice that a stout like this is heavy to the point where the thought of drinking more than one is just terrible. This one isn't like that. So, it wins out there.
