For those who may be thinking of me as a homer, understand that I neither submitted nor approved this place for inclusion.

That said, this has been my neighborhood bar since I was a wee lad. Back then, it was called "Town Tavern" and was part of a triumvirate that included the Shamrock Cafe and the now-defunct R & R Bar. If you really want to challenge me, ask me about the Little Dutch Tavern, Luckee's Elbow Room and the Lauzus Hotel and Tavern. I drank young and everywhere.

Back to Brendee's - in the late-1980's/early-1990's, ownership went to a woman named "Brendee" and it became "Brendee's Town Tavern". After she sold to the current ownership, they decided not to mess with her name recognition and went with "Brendee's Cafe" until the latest tweak. It is my Wednesday night haunt for Jay's Trivia, starting at 2000 and I usually have a great trivia partner in my friend, Bil, but if you would like to join us, we are always welcoming. Just don't blurt out any answers - you get a good beat-down followed by being 86'd.

It sits on the northeast corner of West Lemon and North Mary Streets with main doorway along Mary and an emergency exit aligned to the corner. Upon entering, the emerald green/pebbled Formaica-topped bar is to the immediate right and a cooler of to-go beers is to the left, just past the end of the bar. The back bar is a vintage carved wood and mirror affair with the upper back bar for high-end liquors, wines and glassware while the lower back bar (!) is for bottom-shelf liquors and empty pitchers, the latter of which are a throwback to when this place was a college student's haven (Franklin & Marshall (F & M) College is just a few blocks away, but they have gotten much more stringent about checking IDs than when I was a kid. Today, it is solidly 21-and-over, plus they allow smoking, which can be a nuisance at times if everyone is lit up.

Getting back to the cooler to the left of the entry - it is three (3) doors with a mix of sixers, 22-oz. bombers and 40-oz. bottles to-go. I recently scored a Bear Republic bomber, to give you an idea.

Still left of the doorway are the lavs (opposite the cooler), followed by a couple of short steps up to the rear bar area, which is filled with standard tables and chairs along with a short bar that has four taps, followed by their kitchen.

I love Brendees! It's right down the street from me for starters, the food is much better than what you might expect, and the drink and food specials are some of the best in town, if not the best in my opinion. The bartenders will recognize and greet you after only a few times there, they're hospitable and know how to make a drink! The beer selection is pretty good as well, they have a whole board of less common domestics, along with price and ABV right there beside them. The food is great also, the wing sauces there are also some of the best in town if you ask me. Great self updating jukebox also. I could go on and on seeing as how I'm in this place about 3 times a week...Just know it's a nice comfortable place to enjoy beer, spirits or just dinner.

This is a great place to go if you want a selection of sports on the tv, good food, and good price for their quality of drinks. You may leave smelling like an ashtray but you will also leave feeling pretty satisfied with everything. I tend to go on wing nights because cheap wings and decent priced guinness. Wings are amazing and you can change and create any flavor of wings you want. Depending on who is working, the staff is always quick on service and polite, except one girl that literally stands in the back and smokes cigarettes without realizing i have been waiting for 20 minutes just to order some wings. They have been very creative lately with events. I have been to their Whiskey and cigar tasting and tequila tasting, both were successful with good food and great variety. I would recommend going here for a good time with your buddies, St. Patricks day, and when they have a tasting. Overall, good place and a great Irish pub to contribute to Lancaster.

Only if this place was non smoking. They always have really decent drafts. Bottles selection is above average as well. The location is pretty good(right across the street of a fellow ba friend). Amy the crowd is kinda seedy and smoke really kills the place. It is dirty and dated but somehow works with place. They also have a super nice selection of Irish whiskeys. I did not try there food but been told is decent bar food. Overall I would def frequent a lot more if it was non smoking. Maybe some day it will change but doubt it, they are proud to be one of the only smoking bars in town
