Great burgers, would love to see a better beer selection. It is hit or miss.

My favorite place to go have a beer in a nice relaxing atmosphere on any given night. The place is nice and dimly lit around the bar and basically everywhere which adds to how relaxing it is.

The quality is great, not just the beer, but the food and the staff are all top notch here.

The bartenders are top-notch, especially Matt he knows his stuff about craft beer. The waitresses are really friendly as well as the management and owner Doug.

They have a great rotating tap selection and are always trying to bring in the best of the best as far as craft beers go. They always have atleast 1-2 IPAs on, 1 stout, 1-2 pale ales, and some other rotating types. If you cant find something on draft the bottle selection is good as well.

The food here is awesome, whether you want a burger, salad or just some appetizers. I have never had a bad meal there.

If you are in the area you will not regret checking this place out

Nice to see a local chain adding some good beers. Still have some generic beers - but VERY pleased to see some nicer quality selection. Had Arrogant Bastard on tap for a short while, and more recently I was happy to see Wolaver's Oatmeal Stout.

Burgers are well worth the visit. I highly recomend the Kobe Beef Burger - get it with extra "special sauce" on the side.

Ambiance is bright. Staff is pretty good - not quite as good as the other max restaurants - but still good.

Tough to get in for dinner with out a wait - try lunch or happy hour to ease yourself in.

Cheers!

I'm not really sure this should be listed as a "beer bar." It's not touted as that. It's more of a restaurant that has a micro selection. But since it's listed as a beer bar, I guess I'll rate it as that...

Anyway, my wife and I stopped in here for a late lunch on a Wednesday. Not a particularly impressive tap selection. Eight taps, three of which were PBR, Shock Top and Michelob Marzen. So basically, that leaves five "real" taps. Stone IPA (which I ordered), Long Trail Imperial Stout, the Thomas Hooker house beer, and two that are not memorable enough for me to remember. There are maybe a dozen decent micro bottles available from various breweries. Most BA's would find something to order. Maybe another dozen BMC's in bottles too. So, as a beer bar goes (which I don't think this is), the beer selection isn't great. For any other restaurant though, it'd be a good beer selection. The burgers were good though! A little greasy, but I don't go out and order a burger hoping it'll be dry.

The service was good enough. The atmosphere was kind of a dry; a big square room with tv's in the corners and bad acoustics, but cow decorations on the walls. The table four tables down sounded like they were yelling in my ear.

So, my wife and I discussed if we'd go back there for two beers, two burgers, and a $40 tab. We both agreed NO.

I had high hopes for this place concidering that it is nice looking, run by a great company and in West Hartford Center.

I was honestly quite dissapointed in the food.
I even felt ill after the meal. My wife actually disliked her berger as well, and amazingly, 3 for 3 her friend(who joined us) did not enjoy hers either.

We liked the beer slection, so I have to give it some love, but these days there are plenty of better places to eat with much better beer selections. In fact, Plan B has more variety in beer and food, and its better in both catagories as well while being cheaper.

Honestly I would give this place terrible reviews in the numbers if it were not a typically him West Hartford night spot. its a place to see and be seen to some extent, and you will certainly find your fair share of cougars in a place like this. I think they need to revamp the menu and expand it as well. for a place called Max Burger, I expect to have more than 6(or was it 8) burgers to choose from. Grease city!!!

It should be noted I went here for drinks twice before eating here, and when we looked at the menue we were psyched to come and eat.

we waited over 45 minutes for a table, and it went down hill from there.
we tried The Kobe clasic, Fatty Melt, and the black jack
as well as Fried Oysters and onionrings.

The oysters were exceedingly salty and could not be finished
the onion rings, wich I think are no longer on the menu were just greasey and nasty. I have no other words.
the fatty melt was suprizingly flavorless for being so "decadent" and it was so greasy it just just an unfortunate order. I would have expected more flavor here.
the blackjack was not flavorfull either, it was not very "mexican" at all. very suprizing.

the Kobe was the best, but it was no better than a regular burger anywhere else. so for its price it was a complete loss.

none of us are picky eaters, but we really struggled with this. each of us disliked what we ordered, and we all tried each others foods just hoping that the grass was greener on the other side.

I am trying to focus on the good, so... I like the outdoor seating area in the bar and how the doors open along the entire front.

I might gave a drink here again, but not likely due to the price. It should be noted that there are no "big beers" My wife and I will not likely ever eat here again unless something major changes.

I could easily list a half dozen places with better burgers, and a better beer menu, and are cheaper in greater Hartford.

I can think of a handfull in West Hartford alone.

Max Burger is a part of Max restaurant group, and continued my good experiences with them. They have here a high end burger place with a good selection of craft brews.

The beer list had all crafts on tap, and an extensive bottle list which was mostly craft and a few American lager bottles. For beer I ordered Max's no name pale ale, which was brewed by Hooker for this restaurant for $3 during happy hour. It was a below average pale ale (in my opinion) and there were a few better options. After that I ordered a lagunitas IPA, which was very fresh. There were about 30 different craft beers between bottles and taps, focusing on US crafts with few good Belgians. The menu claims the taps are rotated consistently, and the beer list has generic styles (stout, ipa, wheat, etc), so you need to ask the server what they have that day.

For food I ordered a bacon burger, cooked medium rare with sweet potato fries. The 8 oz burger was fantastic. They had a good selection of more exotic burgers and toppings, including a kobe burger. They also had a few other non-burger options that I didn't explore that day.

We dined outside, and had a good experience overall with the restaurant. The prices were good, and even though the restaurant atmosphere is a little high end, you can order a burger for dinner for under $10. Recommended for a beer and burger spot.
