My wife and I were looking to go to lunch after spending some time on the beach, so I mentioned Arena's Deli. We ended up coming back on rt 1 instead so we stopped in at Arena's Cafe. They have a large seating are near the bar and the patio in the front w/ several tables and more near the takeout area. The bar is long and the place doesn't feel cramped or cluttered but has a well-kept appearance.
The atmosphere is friendly, casual and enjoyable, we were greeted immediately in a welcoming way and told to sit where we like, which ended up being at the bar in front of the taps and coolers. They have a large set of blackboards that displays the specials of the day - on this day 'What about Bob' and Turkey/rye and broccoli cheese soup, and on the far end of the wall the draft and bottled beer selelctions are listed.
The selection while not outstanding is still pretty respectable with over 35 different bottles and 1/2 the taps were craft. I had a can of Caldera IPA and she tried 16 mile which she liked. There are specialty beers like Java head by Troegs and the rest are varied but include seasonals like Flying Dog's Dogtoberfest, Brooklyn Octoberfest, Post Road Pumpkin and year rounds like Stone IPA, Allagash White, Ommmegang Three Philosophers and Rogue American Amber as well as Samuel Smiths and Chimay so the selection is varied.
The food was the best part next to the service. Literally minutes after we ordered the food was served to us in large baskets with large pickels and chips. I ordered a 'North Shore' which included ham, chicken bacon and cheese and she enjoyed the California Club Dude which was comprised of Turkey Avocado Tomato and sprouts on wheat. I tried both and was pleased with the freshness and size of the sandwiches, the bread was tasty and supported all the meat well.
The Service was friendly and accurate, the fact that we were checked on and the food was brought to us so promptly was very satisfying. I highly recommend Arena's Cafe -they make you feel welcome and more than that the food is given the attention to detail it deserves. I would definitely return.
