Copper pour, average white head. Aroma clearly lacking anything that would constitute hoppy. I realize it isn't cheap to dry hop, but don't make the style and charge $8 for a 6er if you are just cutting corners.

Same with the taste, bitter, long hop boil, minimal if any hop mouthfeel. Tries to downplay caramel and malt base to allow for more bitterness, hoppiness to come out, but even that does not work, all seems like a cost cutting measure.

Seems like a lot of breweries trying to cash in on the ipa movement, just making simple minded high bitter beers. Puh-lease. I only tried it when it went on sale for $6 a 6er, and even at that, its still overpriced for the lack of quality you get.

12oz bottle. Sigh. Another in a sadly long line of apparently duplicitous offerings (but they have different American-history specific marketing campaigns! Fuck off and die if you believe this) from the increasingly difficult to engage entity that is the Prestige Wine Group Canada. What, is it too cold in Winnipeg for you to respond to your bloody emails? Christ on a crutch, man!

This beer pours a hazy medium golden amber colour, with one finger of somewhat foamy, puffy, dirty white head, which leaves a low vista of rainforest lace around the glass as it steadily bleeds away.

It smells of sweet, sugary malt, not really caramel, more of a stale, sour bready sort, some watery pine and thin citrus juice notes, and a stoney, flinty character that appears where I might have been expecting some bitterness. Oh well. The taste is more indistinct, plain, and neutered generic hops, echoes of citrus, pine, and herbs wailing as from the underworld, some equally pithy bready, wet crackery malt, with a growing metallic sheen.

The carbonation is pretty sedate, the body medium-light in weight, with a growing cloyingness, and sneaky, picky sourness that precludes any delusions of actual smoothness. It finishes off-dry, the mildly sour grain doing none of us any real favour in its longevity, as the hops and alcohol don't seem able to pull up the collective socks of this offering.

Trick me once (or five times, who's really counting, eh?), shame on you, trick me twice, shame on me. After barely getting through the majority of this bottle, I assure you, I won't be making that mistake again. Not an IPA, especially one of the oft-maligned American variety. Avoid with moderate prejudice.

Appearance - Pours a hazy golden amber with a thick, 2 finger head. Average retention. Decent lace with fair stick.

Smell - Malt forward aroma with soft caramel, though moderate citrus hops shine through decently enough.

Taste - Predominant caramel malt flavor upfront and throughout. Hops come through, though weakly, near the finish as somewhat citrus and floral. For an IPA, the lack of a strong or even moderate hop presence is somewhat baffling.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. The carbonation is soft, though bubbly. Smooth and drinkable.

Overall - IPA? This is, at best, a soft English pale ale. This is not a bad tasting beer, in fact it's somewhat enjoyable, but I have to knock the overall rating based purely on the fact that this is nowhere near the style it's trying to represent. Not too far off from the Cable Car Pale Ale; the minor difference being there's a slight increase in hops. Emphasis on slight.

From tasting notes 9-27-11
Poured into a snifter

Appearance: Pale amber pour with a 3-finger foamy off-white head that settles quickly but leaves delicate but thick lacing.

Smell: A surprising amount of malts in the nose, mostly biscuity. Also, some nice floral and earthy hop notes.

Taste: Bready malts up front, quickly overpowered by bitter, earthy hops that hold through to the dry, very crisp, bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Fairly thin-bodied; ample carbonation and a very crisp finish.

Overall: A decent beer, but not my favorite because it isn't the best tasting nor most exciting.

Poured into a Sam Adams glass. Pours a nice copper color with a thick white head. Good head retention and leaves a nice lacing down the glass.

Slight sweet/citrusy aroma. More aroma when first poured but dissipated quickly.

Sweet biscuity taste with a delayed bitter aftertaste.

Light on the front of the tongue with the bitterness hitting the back of the mouth. Leaves a bitter taste on the sides of the mouth.

The beer is easy to drink but is more akin to a pale ale than an IPA.

This wasn't a bad beer, but as for IPA's it's not even close on what I look for. I get some notes of caramel and slight apple. Bitter finish on this beer, I picked this up in a mystery box at Bevmo, and for the price it's not bad, but I would never buy a 6 pack by itself.

Copper pour, average white head.

Pours a big three inch frothy head on a medium amber body.
Average head retention and pretty good lacing.

Not much in the way of aroma, faint citrus perhaps.

Slight citrus hop taste. Decent malty backbone. Very pedestrian in the way of flavors.

Medium mouthfeel, a little low on the carbonation.

Closer to a Pale Ale than an IPA. I don't know, I'm not really impressed. One thing this Cable Car IPA has going for it is drinkability, if only because of lack of flavor.

Appearance: Amber, with a decent head.

Smell: A hint of caramel, not much else.

Taste: Slight citrus hops, a bit of malt. Definitely more of a pale ale than an IPA.

Mouthfeel: Clean, crisp, thin bodied.

Overall: Fair. A drinkable beer that I picked up at an excellent price at World Market.

i picked up this six pack at my local whole foods for a sale price of $5.99. ill try most any IPA for that. drank from my samuel adams perfect pint glass.

A- this one pours out a copper colored body with a finger of bright white head on top. the head is quick to fall and leaves behind a surprisingly small amount of lacing.

S- the first thing i pick out of the nose are a disappointingly small amount of hops. mostly grapefruit and pine. a little bit of floral notes also. after that i get some biscuity malts with a little bit of caramel sweetness.

T- the taste starts out with the biscuity malts that i could smell along with some sweet caramel notes. after that it moves onto the hops. grapefruit, pine, and floral notes.

M- the body is too thin and watery. the carbonation is too high. the finish isnt dry enough.

O- if it wasnt for the price, i would consider this to be a total waste and failure. i dont think ill ever pick it up again. a very poor example of the IPA. id rather spend the same amount of money on some mission st. at trader joes and forget all about this one. avoid.

This pours a murky light-orange color. There’s a musty, muddled aroma, best defined by what it is not: not crisp, not hoppy, not floral, not pleasant… Metallic flavor and harsh finish. Doesn’t taste like an IPA I’d want to spend any more time with. Went in not expecting much but this was worse than I thought. Simply awful. Drainpour.

Pours a transparent golden hay color with about a fingers worth of white head. Not much lacing.

The nose is, well, macro smelling. I get some barley, and some malt but thats about it. Smells kinda like a Miller Lite. Eeek. Where they got IPA from this is beyond me.

The taste is also misleading. This is in no shape or form an IPA.
There are zero hop offerings and there is a complete lack of bitterness. Some malt and a corn taste ia noticed.

The mouth feel is pretty thin and lacks body. Not dry, but drinkable...? I guess

Overall, this beer is extremely misleading in it's title and is a wolf in sheeps clothing. I'd rather drink a PBR.
