Served in a Kona shaker pint glass at Whole Foods - Schaumburg.

When you're low on cash but still want a beer at the bar, you've gotta go for the bargain-priced offerings. This one pours a partly-hazy brass topped by a finger of white foam. The nose comprises cracked wheat, mild orange zest, black pepper, clove, and a dash of cardamom. I actually like the peppered wheat thing going on here. The taste holds notes of wheat, coriander, light orange peel, clove, a pinch of black pepper, and a twist of lemon. The body is a rather light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, this could have been a solid wit, based on what the smell seemed to foretell. Instead, it turned out to be a slightly watered-down version of the style. Disappointment, indeed.

Purchased a pint can at whole foods, poured into a chalice.

Bright straw color with an inch of head, persistant lacing as I drank.
Smell was almost non-existant, some very faint spice on second sniff than gone again.
Taste was not witbier like. However, it wasn't bad either. I enjoyed it, more ale/lager though.
Mouth feel was light, not as full bodied as I perfer, but OK around my grill.
Overall, not a good witbier, but I wouldn't pass up another one without the exectations of the style.

"1 pint" aluminum can acquired at Whole Foods as part of a 4 pack which had a total cost of $4.99. I know what I'm getting into given it's a World Brews beer. Expectations are pretty low, but every beer gets a chance. Brewed by World Brews, Rochester, NY. "Ale brewed with spices." "Belgian-Style Wheat Ale." Reviewed as a witbier; the label (and name) identifies it as a Belgian white. The label doesn't corroborate the currently listed 5.4% ABV. Served into a conical Samuel Smith's pint glass.

Served cold, straight from the fridge. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours almost entirely foam/head. Seven finger head width suggests dire overcarbonation and serious issues. Light creaminess. Okay thickness. Troublingly long (~8 minute) retention.

Body colour lacks the cloudy appearance typical of every beer (whether good or bad) in the style; there's something seriously off here. It's a lemon-yellow. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Translucent and clear. Average vibrance.

The appearance concerns me. A proper witbier this is not.

Sm: Stale lemon peel and dirty wheat. A generic ester. Minimal mass-produced floral hop character. Light in strength. Not at all appealing or fresh. Bleh.

T: Generic wheat. Artificial lemon. Lightly syrupy. A generic lemon ester. Clean barley. Minimal floral hop character. Horridly built for a witbier. Simple, bland, and boring. A bit of froth up front. Not a fan of this. Lacks balance, complexity, and subtlety. No yeast or alcohol comes through.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Fairly clean. Not at all crisp. Overcarbonated. Lightly syrupy. Too thick The body is all off for the style. Too heavy on the palate for a witbier, even overbearing. Doesn't suit the flavour profile or style well at all. Luckily, it's not watery or oily. A biteen buttery - which is actually kind of nice here.

Dr: Definitely won't be getting this again. There are far better budget beers out there. Another dud from World Brews. Even for its modest ambitions as a budget brew, it's pretty subpar. Not recommended. Drinkable but crappy.

This beer comes from the creator of the can quest, woodychandler. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of wheat, some mild spices. Taste is mild, some wheat, lihtly spiced, nothing offensive, but a bit bland. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer.
