A - dark brown with a thin brown, bubbly head that has decent retention

S - chocolate, some grains, roasted malts

T - roasted malts, some faint grainy sweetness, some chocolate, some faint coffee but without any of the associated bitterness

M - medium bodied, smooth, a bit crisp

This is really a solid Porter considering I paid less than $5 for the 4-pack of 16oz cans. It has a decent flavor and nice drinkability. It can definitely be cleaned up, but as is, it is a nice, drinkable, affordable porter.

A: Deep dark brown in the glass, a lighter brown as it pours, with a nice tan head on top.

S: Caramel, and brown sugar with some raisins.

T: Caramel and some light brown sugar. Fairly tame, a little bit of a roasted flavor, and it tastes like an English yeast strain. Fairly subdued flavors, but easy drinking and approachable for someone who may be new to dark beers.

M: Medium to medium light in feel, the carbonation is a little more active than I would like in a porter. Not sure if that is an attempt to be more marketable for a wider range of palettes.

O: Overall a decent porter, nothing spectacular but nothing glaringly bad. Fairly drinkable, although a little bit of a yawner.

Appearance - poured from a bottle into a glass. Dark brown almost black color. Two finger off-white Carmel head. Decent lacing.

Smell - roasted coffee beans, java smells.

Taste - very similar to the smell, what u would expect from a porter.

Mouthfeel - average.

Overall - a very decent, sessionable porter.

16 oz can poured into a nonic.

I don't have much background information on this beer other than that it's contract brewed by World Brews/Uberbrew. The porter came in a 4-pack of cans for $6 at Kroger, so I figured, why not? The porter pours a dark brown/crimson, bordering on black. It's topped by a massive rocky tan head that leaves excellent lacing behind and definitely sticks around. We're off to a good start.

The aroma is a little mild but still holds all the characteristics of a traditional porter – a slightly nutty, roasty profile with hints of coffee and chocolate and just a dash of earthy bittering hops. It's quite pleasant and not at all “off par” for the style. It seems thin with no real hop presence, but then again, all things considered, this is good.

Dieselpunk delivers what one would expect for a contract brewed, inexpensive “craft” beer. It hits the core of the style but doesn't necessarily stand out or challenge the drinker. A smidge of earthy bitterness hits the front of the tongue before going into a malty middle and finish – nuts, caramel, and toffee, transitioning into coffee flavors and a bit of smoke on the finish. It goes down super easy and is pleasant. While it's not mindblowing, I can't knock this one.

The massive head on the pour gave me a clue to how highly carbonated this was, but I was surprised to find that it was smooth and somewhat creamy with a malty finish.

For $6 a four-pack, you can't knock this. Try this on your non-craft friends, or if you're looking for a “summer porter.”

One more by World Brews...

Poured a deep ruby red, pretty clear. One thing this "brewery" gets right is the appearance of their beers. They all look the part.

Aroma on this one isn't all bad. it's very, very faint, as are most from this brewery. But what I can pick up is a bit of roasty malt, just as it should be. I'm crossing my fingers that the aroma carries over into the flavor.

Aaaand it doesn't. Again. Not terrible this time. Just really mild. There is a slight cocoa up front, followed by a tinge of bitterness that could be from hops or roasted malts. It kills the effect by fading to a really odd, sour aftertaste. But not soapy, so there's that! The flavor is weak, coming on slowly then running away quickly. Nothing robust about this. It's not off, no soap, no metal, just not good.

Very thin and watery mouthfeel, which plays into the flavor leaving so quickly after each drink. Should be a bit more substantial for the style.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the last thing I currently have in my refrigerator that was put together by World Brews and their contract breweries. It's far and away the best one, and it still doesn't pass muster. It's not bad, but with scores and scores of much better options, it's best to pass this one by and pick up a good beer. Why waste time or money on something like this?

Reddish brown color. Not the best porter I've had. It was worth a shot as its a relatively new brand I've seen at the local grocery. It doesn't have enough of the dark taste as I like. The coffee/chocolate tastes that are characteristics of a lot of Porters that I love.

First taste was the best, then not all that great. A touch of coffee and chocolate over dull barley grains. Yeast added a slight twang to it. Alchohol was definitely there for being 6.5%, but not necessarily in a bad way. Carbonation was a bit on the high side, but it was definitely a beer I could stomach. I'm pretty sure the can was over a year old (the four pack was marked down to $5 and they are 16oz cans and it looked like julian code, it was either 2012 or 2013). Not a bad beer overall though.
