Clear, deep chestnut colour with beautiful red highlights and a dense beige cap of fine bubbles. Lots of lace and great head retention. Orange and grassy hop aromas, along with some caramel and toast. Overall a bit earthy. Soft, moderate bitterness with a bit of earthy and spicy hops. A bit of citrus and grassy hops appeared part way through and were balanced by toasty malt. Very British. Medium to light bodied with lowish carbonation. Smooth and a bit on the dry side. Good stuff. Very easy to drink by the pint.

(on cask during the 13th anniversary celebration, on april 11, 2009. i'm pretty sure this was the name of the beer. there is no other ESB on the list, so i had to add it. if the watch city guys need to correct this, please do so.)
dark coppery amber. slightly hazy. mimimal, but creamy thin wispy layer of head. fades to almost nothing near the end, but not before leaving lots and lots of webby, splotchy lacing.
aroma: grassy, hay-like hops, with a touch of citrusy american varieties. fruity apple-like esters and caramel maltiness, with a just a hint of roast. metallic whiff.
taste: fruity esters and diacetyl note proceeds into malty caramel, hint of roast, and then into a grassy hop character with moderate bitterness and a trace of citrus, lingering into the finish.
light body, but very smooth, w resins in finish. standard cask carbonation.
