Poured this bottle into a Delirium Tremens snifter.
a- Pours a rich toffee color with a 1/16" white head.
s- Caramel, cocoa, buttery toffee, roasted malts, a sourness akin to a warhead candy.
t- Sour. Other flavors linger in the background (chocolate, brown sugar). This bottle has obviously gone bad.
m- Medium to thick mouthfeel with faint carbonation. The sourness makes this bite a little more than I can bear.
o- Big time let down! The look and first whiff had my hopes set very high. However, I managed only four sips (the fourth of which was spit down the drain) before the bottle went bottom up over the sink. This was not a cheap beer ($8 for the 375ml? bottle), so I will not be giving it a second chance.

Etienne Dupont barrel aged version, about 2 years old if I remember correctly.
A-Pours deep burgundy with no head, just a thin ring of bubbles.
S-Musty, slightly oxidized, with sharp Calvados apple tartness.Smells like an English barley wine that's spent a little too much time in the cellar.
T/M-This is past its prime, but still pretty nice. Flavors of fruitcake, sherry, green apple and calvados mesh nicely enough. This is totally flat. A little carbonation would help. Oxidation mostly gets lost in the tartness of the Calvados, but it's showing enough to be distracting.
O-I'd like to try this fresh. Not holding up very well at 2+(?) years.

Listed on the label as "an Italian Barley Wine Style Ale aged 6 months in oak barrels previously used by E. Dupont for Calvados."
Served from bottle into a Surly Darkness snifter. Poured a deep red brown with a minimal light tan head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, subtle tart cherry, grapes, wood, and subtle caramel. The flavor was of sweet malt, dark fruit, grapes, sweet alcohol, and wood. It had a medium feel on the palate with low carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. The aroma on this one was quite complex and very interesting. I was surprised by the tart cherry note I got on this one, but it seemed to work well with the rest of the aromas going on in the nose. The flavor was quite nice too with tons of dark fruit right out of the gate and then it reminded you of its advertised ABV soon after. A really well done brew that I would love to have again. Tick.
