Mostly a wine shop. You can taste a bunch of wine made in Texas and elsewhere. There is a cooler full of beer past the wine bar that is serve yourself. Pretty standard offerings. Some Real Ale (I am glad this is basically everywhere around this part of Texas), New Belgium, Sierra Nevada, and some of the more common German offerings. The service is pretty nonexistent for beer. The people behind the bar know plenty about the wine, but there is really no need for them to know about the beer. Still I have to dock some points for basically zero knowledge of the beer. Overall, pretty standard but it is nice to be able to grab a beer as well as wine and sit outside in the newly done patio area.

Though if you have come this far, might as well walk down a few blocks and visit the Winery on the Gruene. No beer, but good wine and they are very informative to people like me that know a great deal about beer, but next to nothing about wine.

The Grapvine is located in Gruene which is sort of a suburb of New Braunfels, a few miles from I-35. The store is on the main street of downtown Gruene, and there is street parking throughout the area.

The place is a wine shop but they do have a cooler full of beer that has an emphasis on Texas beers. The brewers represented include Shiner, Real Ale, Alamo, Blue Star etc. There are also a couple of micros from Sierra Nevada and New Belgium. Overall the selection is not great but for the area I was pleased. The beers are also available in singles for a whopping $3 or so per bottle.

Service was decent on a weekday afternoon. Again it is a wine store but the people behind the counter were friendly and helpful.

Overall this place is worth checking out if you are in the area to go "Toobin'", or any other reason.
