Have been to Broadway Brewery several times since it opened. As with most new places, my experiences have been both good and bad. Service is inconsistent at best and the food is a bit overpriced. I have enjoyed some of their pizzas, but most of the other food I've tried has been underwhelming especially when considering the price. The beers had often been undercarbonated, but that issue appears to be rectified. Most beers are pretty solid, although I've had a couple that I did not like (e.g., imperial stout). I've really enjoyed their winter warmer and porter. In all, a good spot to have a beer and enjoy the atmosphere, but the subpar food keeps me from stopping by here more often.

Subterranean, lots of dark wood, mellow kinda feel, 14 of their own beers on tap, loads of tequilas, whiskeys, cans to go is always a plus, For eats is burgers, sandwedges, pizza, BBQ , and the food is pretty tasty...lots of food options, friendly staff, better then decent service.... alls adds up to a worthy spot to visit for a meal and quality brews...enjoyed several quality IPAs during my visits

Stepping down the front steps to the basement level just off the main drag in Columbia, MO's downtown is this dimly lit, intimate space. It's got a semi-mellow industrial vibe between the dark, rough-edged hardwood tables, concrete floors, and wooden decorations with evenly spaced drawings around the room. It's clean and well kept. Service is slightly above average for waitstaff, offering up a bit of insight into the beer menu, but not much for the selection process. Selection is all in-house beers that range across the gammut of styles, with more of a nod towards sessionable, social beers. Food is, again, above average, but not much beyond that. Beer is available to-go in crowlers. No patio.

After hiking at Rock Bridge State Park, my family and I visited this brewery for brunch on Sunday at noon. The brewery is located downtown, and is in the lower level of a building. Wonderful atmosphere...there was a band playing and the service was attentive. The brunch food was excellent, and the beer was well made. The stout and the porter were both excellent. This is a great place and worth visiting again.

This brewery is about 60 miles from my home but I have been there dozens of times. The craft beer is characteristically excellent and true to style. They offer 6 to 10 crafts at all times and rotate new ones in frequently. Service is good and bar staff knowledgeable of craft styles. The menu is limited and often esoteric. Overall great place to drink and socialize.

I was in Columbia to visit my daughter and take in a Mizzou basketball game. There was a total of 7 of us that went here for an early dinner and it was great.

You can enter either on Broadway or through the back. It is semi-basement but feels light and airy. The bar is in back and seats about 12. The rest of the divided space is a mix of small and large tables.

We had a short wait to be seated but spent the time at the bar area enjoying some really nice beers. A Black IPA and Amber both received good reviews. The bartender was friendly and free with samples and could easily explain the standards and the rotating specials.

Once seated out waitress was on top of things. She made sure the glasses remained filled and did a great job explaining the specials and making sure everyone's order was right.

The food was very good and I liked their emphasis on local sourcing.

Prices were outstanding. I know this is a college town but $3 for a pint of good beer is a bargain in my book.

I have been wanting to try this brewpub for some time. The atmosphere was that of a trendy upscale pub a little dark and small but quaint. The smell of boiling malt hit you as you enter the door. You can actually see all the brewing equipment and the brewery from the dining room. The restroom set up was very odd. There was no stall for the commode and it was right by the door. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable but it did take 40 minutes to get my food. The food servings were extremely small and expensive. The flavor was alright but nothing special for the price you pay. I had Bison burger and root vegetables. The vegetables were soggy and the mini burger had virtually no condiments. I did like all the beers but I thought they were very neutral in their properties nothing really stuck out as far as flavor, aroma or appearance.

I've been coming to this brewpub for 6 months now. The atmosphere is warm but sophisticated at the same time. lots of local art ,one t.v. this is not a sports bar, which is a good thing for me. the service is great.an eager, knowledgeable staff is always ready to serve you. A fella named Dan is especially good. on to the all important beer... Paul dtickerson is the brewmaster and does an amazing job of brewing beer with the changing seasons. The beer menu consists of 7 different styles of beer, all of them very solid if not outstanding for the style. A very clean and compact brewery is visible through huge glass windows behind a 25 seat bar.now,on the food. Oh,the food. Almost eveything is locally grown and raised by local farmers.(a lot of them organic) the menu is pretty diverse and always changes with the seasons. All the food is either solid or exceptionally good. Overall.Broadway brewery is a great brew pub that puts even local favorites to shame..(aka flat branch) if you get a chance to visit, you won't be dissapointed.

I was in town for busines at University of Missouri and killed an afternoon by having beers and lunch at Flat Branch and then heading over to Broadway around 2:00 before catching a flight out of town.

Broadway is located on the main drag (Broadway) in a space below street level. It's a cozy atmosphere with the bar at the very end and the brewing operation behind glass behind the bar. Live Dave Mathews show provided light back ground music.

After a sans hop experience at Flat Branch, I was craving something hoppy and went with a sample each of their APA, Rye IPA, and Double IPA. The APA and Rye were both pretty good. The DIPA, while accounting for degree of difficulty, was a bit sweet and lacked the biterness and hop punch I was hoping for.

The bartender knew much more about fly fishing than beer but he made up for that with being a super cool and friendly guy. When I told him it was hops I was after, he poured me a sample of the summer ale. A nice offer but not against the lineup I already had in front of me.

As a homebrewer and critical beer drinker, I felt more of a connection to Broadway than Flat Branch. If it's true that the place is pretty new, there on the right track with styles that may need some dialing in. They also had quality guest taps from Moylans and New Holland.

Dinner on Sunday evening January 17, 2010 @ 6:00 PM.

My wife and I took our daughter and her roommate out for dinner after we got her settled back into her dorm room at MU for her 2nd semester freshman year. I have been reading the good reviews everyone else had written and was anxious to try this new brewery in Columbia.

The place is located on the south side of Broadway downstairs from some retail shops. The restaurant was long and narrow from the entrance with a horseshoe shaped bar in the back. There was a clean, compact, and well appointed brewery behind the bar. The brewery was easy to see through the glass wall on the left side of the bar.

There were about 30 tables and 8 or 9 were occupied when we arrived. We were seated immediately but right next to another party. Really too close...and we kind of interfered with each other's conversation.

The menus were typed on white paper and said most of the food was obtained from local growers and vendors. They had an impressive bottled beer and wine list but there was no mention of the beer brewed on premises any where in the menu. I thought that was really odd, usually brew pubs want to show case their hand crafted beers. I asked the waiter about their beers and he told me they had: a wheat beer, a porter, a pale ale and a winter warmer. He didn't elaborate at all about the house beers.

We ordered 2 corned beef sandwiches, a pork burger, and the vegetarian lasagna. Even though there were only 8 parties in the restaurant it took almost 45 minutes to get our food. Everything that was supposed to be hot was cold when it arrived. My corned beef sandwich was on very stale and then toasted rye bread. There was very little meat on the sandwich and it what was there was very tough. I had a side of glazed carrots and they were very tasty, if only they had been warm. My wife's burger was burnt black on the bottom and extremely dried out. Not quite the medium she requested. There was no sign of the 3 cheeses or tomatoes that were supposed to be on the burger. To be fair, my daughter's lasagna was wonderful. All 3 of the rest of us had entrée' envy over her lasagna.

The people at the table next to us, complained strongly and loudly with the manager about their displeasure with their meal. We decided not to complain since we figured they got the message from the people next to us.

The waiter did bring us out a complimentary piece of chocolate layer cake and ice cream to share because he realized we were not at all pleased with our meal. It was very tasty and I would recommend it with the winter warmer beer they went well together.

Overall, I did not find the food to live up to the reviews I read here at all. I don't know if it was just and "off day" in the restaurant or what. They definitely need some help in the kitchen if they are going to make it as a restaurant.

I enjoyed the house beers and will probably go back to try some of their other offerings but I won't be having anything at the restaurant.

Finally I was able to stop in this weekend and give this place a try. The last time I was in there they were just putting in their brewing system about 2 months before they opened. I've been trying to get back ever since but life kept getting in the way, damn life. We got there right when they opened on a Sunday morning. No one else was in there except for my father in law, wife and I. We were instantly seated.

The vibe was modern with all the piping sticking out on the ceiling painted a dark brown with art, from the local art league hanging on all the walls. Custom designed benches lined one wall with tables in the center and other wall. Straight ahead is a huge, 25 person bar, with the taps and bottles in the center. Right behind the bar is a glass-enclosed room with all the brewing equipment. I really dig the place.

The food was excellent. Most everything was locally sourced which is always appreciated. I had an Oatmeal Stout ground pork burger with Gorgonzola cheese and roasted root veggies, my wife had a open faced burger with beans and ham, and my father-in-law had a lamb burger. The food was excellent. Couldn't have asked for a better meal.

The service was good. The one major issue I had was that they didn't seem to know the beer at all. Couldn't answer questions which was a bit annoying but hey, everyone has to start somewhere.

The beer was good. I had pints of all the beer they had on tap. The Rye Pale Ale was hand down the best. It's a really good brew. The porter was probably the next followed up by the Amber and Stout. I think their brew is just going to get better. I'm really looking forward to what's going to happen with this place. I will be back the next time I'm in CoMo.

So after stopping in for a beer once, I stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon with my family. It was empty when we walked in (around 11:30am), but it filled up quickly. The atmosphere is good - upscale bar with cool contemporary art on the walls. It is small and in a basement which makes it dark and adds to the atmosphere. You can see the brew tanks through glass behind the bar and on the way to the bathrooms which is a nice touch. The beers are good. I've now had their Rye, APA, IPA and Porter. They are all quite tasty. The service is good. (It helps to know some of them). They are getting more of their beers on tap and the guest selection is good. They had Left Hand Chocolate Starfish, Grand Teton Fest Bier and Boulevard Tank 7 Saison to name a few. The food is solid to really good. A few things were outstanding. The Lamb sandwich is amazing. I enjoyed the BBQ pizza - its pulled pork instead of chicken. The food is a bit pricey, but that is to be expected since it is a local from small area farmers. All in all, I think it is going to be a quality brewpub and I hope it continues to improve upon its solid foundation.

I was thrilled recently to see that Columbia was getting a new brewpub, as craft-brewing is definitely something we could do with a little more of here in mid-Missouri.

Broadway brewery is located next door to the Root Cellar local grocery store right in the middle of downtown Columbia, about a 5-minute walk from campus. It's easy to miss if you don't know it's there as the only sign for it is below street level; hopefully they'll get this taken care of soon so more people become aware of this cool little brewpub.

My wife and I have been there two times now, and were generally pretty happy both times. They have a bottle list of 20-30 bottled brews from around the world (Avery, Schlafly, Great Divide, Unibroue, Greene King, Stella, Samuel Smith, and many more that are now escaping me) as well as 4-5 beers on tap (I remember two from Schlafly, one from New Belgium, one from Avery and something else) as well as two of their own taps. This will soon be expanded, as they put several of their other beers on tap as they get up and running. Along with a pretty decent wine and liquor list, this definitely makes for a decent selection.

The decor is very nice. There's lots of local artwork (which is in keeping with this brewpub's "all things local" mentality), but the interior is otherwise fairly restrained. This makes it feel clean, uncluttered, and relaxed, without being either lowbrow or feeling stuffy. All in all, pretty nice atmosphere. Also, the brewing equipment can be seen through glass walls behind the bar, always a bonus in my opinion.

On to the food. It's a bit pricey, but it's damn good. Their goal is to do as many things with locally-grown, small-farm produced ingredients as possible. Thus, it's going to be a little more expensive, but you know you're getting quality food, and that it's being prepared by people who care about the process. Thus far, the menu's not huge, but there's a nice selection of fresh-made pizzas, appetizers, sandwiches, etc. We tried (both nights) the grilled pita with hummus and pesto and I must say it's the best hummus I've ever eaten. Good stuff. The other night we were there we snacked on the Potato Pizza. Sounds gross, right? It was AMAZING. Super thin sliced potatoes with cheese, some kind of light creamy sauce, and crunchy nuts on top, topped off with a drizzle of scallion oil. Well-done.

So the big question; how is the beer? Thus far, they've only got two of their own brews on tap (a third is to be added this week, with several more in the near future): an APA and a Dry-Hopped Rye Ale. The APA was smoother and cleaner than a lot of examples of the style (my wife liked that the hops weren't overpowering and it wasn't as fruity as some examples) and the Dry-Hopped Rye was pungent with rye spice and a nice kick of clean, bitter hoppiness. Nothing out-of-this-world by any means, but good, solid, well-made beers.

The only real downside was the service, which was a bit slow, even though there were not that many people inside when we visited. The staff is obviously new and seem to still be learning the ropes, but they seem genuinely eager to serve you and I think the timing will get better with time.

Since I've rambled on in my typical verbose fashion, I'll just say this; Broadway is definitely worth a trip downtown. The food is delicious, if a bit pricey, but the beer is reasonably priced, and between the beers brewed on site and a fairly extensive bottle list, everyone should be able to find something they like.
