Appearance: Not particularly impressive. Pours clear pale yellow with a very thin white head. Does not appear to have much carbonation. Dissipates quickly. Not sure I could differentiate between this and Miller Lite in an eye test.

Smell: Pick up scents of honey sweetness and a little hint of something floral. Immediately more interested in the beer after smelling it.

Taste: Hopefully I'm not just predisposed from the language on the label, but there is definitely a honey-type aftertaste, barely noticeable, and the beer is almost a little peppery (like black pepper, not chile pepper).

Mouthfeel: Definitely smooth rather than dry, lightly carbonated, great Florida beer as it is not very heavy. Very slight bitterness in the aftertaste but not really dry at all.

Overall: Not much to look at but I sure enjoyed drinking it. I am becoming a big fan of this beer style and this was a nice lighter beer but with a lot of deep flavor, which is hard to pull off. Big fan. Going to Gainesville next weekend for the game and am going to try to stop at Swamp Head in person.

Bottle #689

Appearance: Quite the gusher and, as with many gushers, the head wasn't nearly what it should be once the volcano settled down; the liquid was a cloudy amber color and there was some dotty lacing

Smell: Fruity (with pear, apple, white grapefruit and banana) with a touch of honey; grassy and yeasty

Taste: Opens fruity, with the flavors detected in the aroma jutting forward; the grassy hops add balance in the mid-palate and the yeast and honey add complexity to the back end with spicy rye tones in the aftertaste; I note the finish is rather leathery and while this isn't the Brett version I wonder whether there might be some Brett in here

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: There is a lot going on in this Saison and even though it sat in my cellar for a few years, the hops are still making an impact; one of the better stateside Saisons I have tasted
