Bottled in 2012. Almost 4 years old, I sure hope this aged well. Pours a hazy reddish brown with cream colored head, about 1 finger high. No lacing left on tulip glass. Smell is very pungent, lots of sweet malty aromas. Slightly nutty as well. Very strong smelling, nice. Wow, this beer packs a punch! Extremely flavorful with pecans very noticeable. Sweet malty flavors abound. A mouthful is actually very hard to achieve since the alcohol burn and richness is so overpowering. This is by far the most flavorful and heavy Barleywines I've had to date. It is similar in richness to Bourbon County Barleywine but not near as balanced. I was afraid it was past its prime but no, it has evolved into this monster of a beer. It be nice to see if Swamp Head comes out with this recipe again. 4.25

From tasting notes. This bottle was cellared 2 years. L: Hazy amber under a 1” cream colored foam cap that provides rich lace. S: Nuts, caramel, traces of honey, hints of leather and alcohol. T: Rich, malty, chocolatey, alcoholic, hints of sherry, fruit, alcohol with a bitter hop accent.. F: Smooth with fine soft, medium carbonation, full body. O: A solid American barleywine improves after 2 years in the cellar.

750ml bottle into snifter. Bottled November 2011.
A: Pours a caramely leather color with a finger of greasy tan head that slowly faded into bubbly film and collar.
S: Leather, caramel, booze, tobacco, and rich resiny hop oily comes through on the nose.
T: Powdery chocolate, leather, tobacco, caramel, nutty quality, and chocolate syrup flavors come through. The finish is full of greasy, oily, and bitter hop resin and tree sap. A great nutty malt and oily hopiness, along with a touch of roast, lingers in the aftertaste. Tobacco lingers as well. Booze is present but not hot at all. Very flavorful and not overly bitter or boozy.
M: Thick and heavy body, slick and oily viscous mouthfeel, tingly but low carbonation. Smooth and rich and very easy to sip.
O: A very enjoyable barleywine. Not especially nutty, but everything works well. Very enjoyable.
