The go to spot in Mobile. Amazing selection of bottles cans and draft. Draft is always rotating and they try not to have draft and package at the same time, got to diversify! All knowledgable guys working that will lead you in the right direction if you're not sure what to try. Open late, later than some restaurants, and can serve pints on site! If you need craft beer (or liquor or cigars) look no further. This is the only place you need to know about.

Nothing even close in the area. Employees are very knowledgeable and they get limited release beers that nobody else in Mobile does. If it is distributed to Mobile and it's good they will likely have it.

Drove about an hour from Gulfport to get here. Christmas eve morning and very busy in here. Has a typical suburban liquor store feel to it. Selection is good, lots of craft and imports, growlers are available and I saw 18 different taps to choose from. A good selection of bombers. I wish more of their domestic beers were available as singles, or a mix a six section would have been nice. Prices, from what I could tell, were a little bit on the high side, but not unreasonably so. The only reason I made only a small purchase is because only about 20-25% of the inventory is priced. I don't like playing guessing games, and this greatly diminished my shopping experience. My only contact with staff was checking out, and they were very busy. Overall, if I lived in Mobile, I would probably shop here, but considering the effort made to get here, I was disappointed.

Stopped in when I got into town and wasn't disappointed. They have a large selection, both cold and room temperate. They appear to rotate their product and did a good job with the displays. My only problem was when I grabbed a bomber from the fridge I should have realized it was bottled almost 2 years ago. This wouldn't have been a problem expect it was an IPA and it was pretty terrible. Partially my fault for not checking before I bought it but they definitely should have product that old in the cooler. The cooler stock should be relatively fresh and paid attention to. Overall it was a nice place and friendly staff. I definitely recommend checking it out if you are in the area. Its probably the only good place to get craft beer as well.

Went there today on my way to Florida from Dallas. Did my research to see where to get my Westbrook fix. Found tons of great things, even a few bottles of Mexican Cake! Chris (on BA, himself) took great care of me! He even steered me away from a few bottles that he thought had sat too long. A must-stop for anyone serious about beer!

Even though this is really the only viable option for beer selection in Mobile, AL it is still a great option. In a state that only changed laws to beers higher than %6 in 2008 and bombers in 2012, craft beer selection is miserable in my city. That is other than Cottage Hill Package. They currently offer over 800 beers, and all of the staff are excited because of upcoming expansion. Several of their guys have told me that they plan to expand to 3,000 beers as well as adding more taps and increasing the size of the humidor.

In my several visits I have yet to find a staff member that was not helpful. These guys are THE place for gourmet beer in our city and they know it. They wear the badge with pride and carry on the responsibilities that go along with it. If browsing the beer selection one is always greeted and chatted with. All the staff seem to have a fairly wide bit of knowledge on beers, (or if not at least a love for it,) and are always willing to give recommendations. You have a feeling that they all really enjoy what they do.

The only down sides of this place is that the beers aren't the best organized and the price is a little high. There seems to be a pattern in how they shelve it, but there's no signage to allude to what it might be. Stock seems to be constantly changing, and some beers have tags with review scores from BA on them, but often times the tags reference a beer that is either out of stock or shelved elsewhere. The upside to all of this is that the staff are always close at hand to help you if you ask, but it would be nice to browse the rows of bottles with a bit more enlightenment. I've also noticed a tendency for them not to pull beers that have gone past their dates.

As far as price is concerned I don't feel that anything is excessively priced, but they are a bit higher than elsewhere. However, I feel that the trade off isn't too bad because these guys really are pleasant to shop with. Selection in our city is scarce, and if my money is going to support a business I'd rather it be locally owned and fulfilling a niche rather than it be funding a chain that puts locals out of business. A plus is that they periodically advertise in a local free newspaper and include coupons for up to 10% off your purchase.

Another upside for this store is their hours. They're 9:00am-12:00am everyday and open their doors 365 days a year. I'm not 100% sure if their holidays business hours change, but I do know that they open.

Upsides: Selection, Staff, Open 365, Free Tastings
Downsides: Organization, Price

From the outside, Cottage Hill Package Store doesn't look like much. It's on the corner of a shopping mall in a safe area of town. On the inside, the relatively small area is clean and well organized. CHPS has a great selection of high gravity bombers. They also offer a wide variety of other beers in a walk-in cooler. The beer prices are reasonable, and the friendly staff is full of suggestions to expand your horizons. I haven't explored the cigars, wines, or liquors available.

Friendly owners. Great staff. Very "homey" atmosphere and well kept. Large selection of beer with lots of local craft brews. They fill growlers (1/2 gallon jug) with six rotating craft beer taps. As a bonus, there is a large walkin humidor with loads of great cigars. Hidden in the back is a cigar bar where you can enjoy your purchases or order from the bar. (You'll need to call ahead to make sure it's open) Last but, not least. This place is an exceptional liquor store with several hard to find bourbons, highend scotchs and obscure liqueurs. The wine selection is extensive including, several highend champagnes. All-in-all, a great locally own business of 35+ years! Providing Mobile with its primary source of great craft beer!

With a minimal amount of time for beer hunting, this ended up being my only serious stop (Publix aside).

Typical liquor store setup with cigars as well. Decor is well done and isn't trashy or run down. Draft available for growler fills. Selection is certainly good, for what is a mildly small place. Lots of stuff worth grabbing. Loads of 'Bama brewed beer, of course, and even found Justin Blåbær here. The only tick against things is that bombers and 750s seem to be the only things available as singles. All cans and 12 ounce beers are in 4/6 packs only. This limited the variety I was able to take home, unfortunately. I ended up with four 6-packs of cans and about 10 other bottles besides that. Everyone working was helpful and pleasant. If in Mobile, definitely worth a stop.

This place is pretty easy to find. It's not hidden or tucked away anywhere since it's on the corner of a shopping center.

Pretty friendly atmosphere here. Had a worker come up and start recommending beers and talking beer with us. It was helpful since I'm not familiar with some of the beers carried in AL. Only time I felt uncomfortable was when I grabbed a box and started to fill it up. They wanted me to bring the beer up to the counter and they'd box it up for me. The kicker is I want to know what I have grabbed and not run up to the counter to see.

I gotta say selection was good. They had beers from AL breweries, Bells, Cigar City, Great Divide, Thomas Creek, SN, Belgians and more. Only problem I had was seeing some IPA's that were over 6 months old. They do have taps where you can fill up a "growler" (plastic gallon jug).

The beer is pricey because AL has some of the highest beer taxes around. And if you get a single, expect $1-1.50 more per bottle compared to the pack version. They can't help the taxes, but the singles prices are ridiculous!

I've been working response in Biloxi, MS for over a year now. Being in Mississippi means awful beer selection so I went in search of the best. After trying places here and there I landed at Cottage Hill. It looks a bit trashy from the outside but oh dear lord does the selection blow your mind.

The guy working was helpful but unfortunately he was the only one working. That means not a lot of 1 on 1 service during busy hours. This store seemed to have everything from Bells Brewing (that fits the 16oz or less rule). They have taps to fill milk jug growlers but can't legally do glass(?). The prices are a bit high but it really is your only choice around these parts. Lastly, they have just added a singles rack for build your own sixers. It seems like they will be adding all the time to the quality and selection of the store.

Great store with great employees! Six drafts inside for tastings or growler fills. Looking to expand into a tasting room! I found some gems I can't get in Texas. Tommyknocker Hopstrike filled my growler. I want Tommyknocker kegs in Texas! I will continue to shop here on my visits to Mobile mostly because of the selection.

Went by here today to see what is available in the bottle here in Alabama while visiting for work, Decent selection but not having bombers really limits what they can do. Its six or four packs only which severly limits your choices once you think about it.
They sale gallons and half gallons of 5 different beers which is awesome. I was able to get Hopzill and Dank Tank half gallons for the hotel room. Really nice.
The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. I am going to go back to grab some sixers before I leave town.

Cottage Hill Package has the best selection in Mobile. The prices tend to be a bit higher than average, but good beer doesn't come cheap anywhere in Alabama, unfortunately. Still, it beats a trip to Pensacola, especially since I'm lucky enough to live less than a mile away.

The store expanded in the last 6 months specifically to increase their shelf space for a better beer selection. For those not familiar with CHPS, In addition to their beer, they have a good selection of wine and liquor, and there is also an impressive walk in humidor. They also have a beer cave in the back of the store in addition to the beer selection on the shelves.

My only real complaint for CHPS is that their selection is limited on the build your own 6 pack shelf. They do rotate out the selection on this shelf, but it's pretty limited. Gourmet Galley is much more user friendly in this department. Still, it's not even close to being a deal breaker.

They have also recently started selling a rotating selection of growlers in order to provide beers that otherwise wouldn't be available due to our state's asinine container laws.

The staff is great, and the owner takes great pride in the quality of selection. They are very responsive to customer requests, and will go out of the way to get you what you want. If they can't get it, it's because their distributors can't get it.

This is a great place to get a good brew in Mobile. They have the best beer selection on the West side of the Bay. They are now serving growlers in store with 5 or 6 tasty beers on tap. I recently brought home a Tommyknocker Hop Strike Growler along with a Great Divide Hercules 4 pack and a Terrapin Rye Squared 4 pack. Money well spent. They also had a little gem just in, J.W. Lee's 1999 Vintage Harvest Ale. I'm really looking forward to this one.

The staff is exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. I will definitely be making more frequent stops to see what they are rotating on the tap.

This is probably the best package store in Mobile. They have good selection for the area and the owner is trying to have the best beer selection in LA (Lower Alabama). They have a whole Belgian rack and then a lot of beers from Tommy Knocker, Great Divide, Abita, Highland, Unibrou, etc. The only problem is that it is very expensive. Over $15 for a sixer of almost anything with a high ABV and $20 for a 4pack of Delirium Tremens. But life is too short to drink bad beer.
They also have a very nice walk in humidor, which has a great selection of cigars. Recommended if you're looking for good beer in Mobile and willing to pay.

This is a good place to get the standard beer fair in mobile, though selection has gotten better since the max abv went up. The liquor selection is very good especially if you like a hard to find, high end scotch. The thing that brings me back is the walk in humidor. They have the best selection around as well as some good prices. In particular they're the only place I've seen el baton cigars, which go well with a good trappist dubbel, south of Atlanta.

So decent selection, alcohol on par or a little higher, but great cigar prices and selection.

edit: met the owner at one of his other stores in orange beach, real nice guy, said they were working on increasing the beer selection.
