Days like today here in Carolina are days to drink a good kolsch, warm and lazy.Poured into a standard pint glass,a light pale yellow with a thinner but well defined white head, quite spritzy looking.Toasted grain aromas with a hint of vanilla tinge, flavors are again lightly toasty with a cereal grain-like note,a light quenching tartness in the finish.A nice kolsch here, not just something to throw back by any means, nice flavor.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #36 (Jan 2010):

Extreme pale yellow color with a light haze; crackling white head has good retention. Aromas of shortbread, biscuit dough and a delicate floral hop. Quick on the crispness. A lot of malt flavor crammed into this brew; doughy with fresh-baked crackers and a hint of grassiness. The hops sting the tongue gently with bitterness, and the subtle flavor goes from floral to wild herb. Ghostlike sulfur in the middle. Dry grassy grain and herbal hop finish.

It's impossible to hide potential flaws in lighter beer styles. Thankfully, Mother Earth did not have to worry about this--no flaws. A great example of the style.

a nice extra from kflack. thanks kevin!

12oz bottle pulled from my fridge poured into an SA perfect pint glass.

pours out a fairly clear pale yellow, straw yellow color with one finger of soapy white head that faded to a ring and some patchy foam minutes later, fairly retentive. some light lace, decent amount of carb bubbles.

in the aroma, some light corny, bready grains, some nice yeasty notes, and a bit of mineral/ sulfer aromas.

grainy, bready malts balanced nicely by some floral, herbal hops. nice bitterness in the finish. bits of mineral and sulfer.

clean crisp feel, very light body. carbonation feels average, quite refreshing.

drinks quite well, i could see sixers of this going down very easily on a hot summer day. too bad its not available in my area. a nice clean, simple kolsch, with a nice little hop bite. well done!

Bottled on 18 April 2011 and served in a pint glass.

A: Light yellow gold, clear but with a slight haze. White short head dissipated quickly leaving a thin partial coat, ring and little lacing. Visible fine carbonation. Tiny bit of sediment added mid-taste.

S: Grassy and floral grains with a hints of lemon, biscuits and hay.

T: Lightly flavored; really a 'light' beer but with a notable bit of lasting hop presence and mild bitterness on the back end.

M: Light and crisp. Moderate carbonation. Slightly dry finish.

O: Very good for style but ... As is typical for style, not enough flavor here to really enjoy on its own. I.e., doesn't make a good sipper. Best used to quench a thirst or accompany a mild flavored meal.

A: Pours an almost clear golden color with a one finger white head. Moderate retention, reducing to a thin layer on top. Nice white lacing down the sides. Small bubbles released from the bottom.

S: Nice grassy aroma combined with some pilsner and doughy malts.

T: Very crisp flavor profile. Light grains, some lemon/grassy, and light citrus hops.

M: Light to medium bodied with solid carbonation. Leaves a slight bubble feeling on my tongue. Slightly dry.

O: A very sessionable kolsch. Great flavor, nice and light.

Pours pure gold with half an inch of loose, soap-like, bubbly head that has decent retention. The nose is faint and musty with some grassy aromas. The tasty is musty with a great deal of grassy hop character. The mouthfeel is light and crisp with a good amount of carbonation.

Kolsch is not my favorite style, but this is a damn fine beer. The hop character is great, and it drinks well.

No head to speak of, clear yellow amber and minimal lace. Straw scent, not pronounced. Delicately understated fresh light barley flavor, with a pleasant almost metallic aftertaste. Not flat, but not zippy either. Overall a fairly good beer that is worth trying, most likely in warmer weather. Not as soft as a real Kolch, most likely due to water.

Picked up a single bottle while at the Outer Banks. Bottled in 5/10.

This is surprisingly hoppy for a kolsch. It's full of dull grapefruit and herbal spice. The typical, subtle fruit flavors are gone for a dark bread crust malt flavor. The beer doesn't taste bad, it just doesn't taste like a kolsch at all. It's good, but don't expect anything traditional. Worth a try.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a crystal clear gold, with 2 fingers of foamy bright-white head. This retains with a rigid ¾ finger cap, which lathers the sides of the glass with some thick swathes of frothy lacing. The aroma is grassy and lightly spicy, with a crisp twang of lemon rind and wheat. Not a ton of force to this or anything but it does keep the flavors airy feeling in the nose.

The taste has a gentle tang to it of lemon zest and toasted bread. A gritty citrus peel like bitterness runs through, lingering along with some leftover fruitiness. This finish is moderately spicy and dry. The mouthfeel is lighter bodied, with an easygoing smooth crispness that gives a refreshing quality to this.

Totally acceptable Kölsch here, that while maybe not the most full flavored version of the style that I've had, still stayed mostly tasty and quaffable. I wouldn't turn down a glass of this on a hot day.

Served from tap into a sampler shaker. Poured golden yellow with a one finger pure white head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, banana, and wheat. The flavor was of sweet malt, banana, wheat, slight grain, and water. It had a light feel on the palate with low carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew, but that is being nice. This one was pretty weak in just about all aspects if I'm honest. Could definitely be A LOT more robust. It would make a good summer brew or gateway beer, but that is about it.
