Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #43 (Aug 2010):

With a dull, golden hue, lacing is there. Star fruit, kiwi, mango and pineapple in the nose, with a hint of a pep- percorn-like alcohol as well. This brew is fresh and clean, yet fruity and alcoholic. A solid edge of malt, and some modest hopping, unfold a bit more in the end. Spicy fruity alcohol is present, middle to end. This beer is clean for the most part. Some light phenols show more of a light herbal or wildflower complexity. Wait, this is domestic? We couldn't tell. Stellar job!

Poured a dark golden body with minor reddish tint with two finger head that dies quick. The aroma hits me of both yeast and orange, along with peppery spice, and then touches of both alcohol and possible tropical fruits. The beer has some interesting tastes along tropical fruit and peppery spice lines, as well as some sugary sweetness. Only problem with beer is that the alcohol cuts into it a little and the hops are strong and bitter citric. Due to this imbalance it's just not a beer that I really enjoyed.

Friends brought me a bottle up from NC, bottled May 2011. Poured into a snifter, the beer is a hazy, opaque, amber-tinged light brown coloring with a thin, sparse, white filmy surface coating. Nose of peach, pear, and pineapple, with a subtle woody character underlying, all-spice, coriander, and hints of booze. Flavors of creamy smooth fruit blended with hints of vanilla and a smooth, oaky highlight. The fruit remains tropical, but the creamy touch gives it an almost gelato character. Very well balanced. The spices and booze do a great job of cleaning up and corralling the sweetness, with a kick of cinnamon and nutmeg. The body is smooth and robust, and the spicing at the end does give it a touch of sharpness into the finish. The aftertaste is spiced and fruity, like a good fruit cake. The finish is smooth, and as I said before, it becomes crisp from the spices, leaving the palate clean, aside from a subtle spicy linger. Very solid brew, and easy to drink, which could be trouble with the elevated ABV.

The beer has a beautiful caramel color and equally fragrant caramel aroma. The taste is strong. First, a creamy caramel taste with a hint of vanilla. This is followed by a strong hit of the higher alcohol content. It has a light carbonation, and a generally pleasant mouthfeel.

This is overall a delightful "dessert" beer. Not one you would have a full pint of, but rather a slow sipping beer after a heavy meal.

On tap at the Thirsty Monk in Asheville

A - orange, a bit hazy, no head

S - fruit, white grapes, a hint of spice

T - white grapes, faint alcohol, bread, orange peel, coriander

M - warm, medium to full bodied, smooth

This is a decent beer. It has really solid flavor and good drinkability for the ABV.

banana, and peach aroma, some light lemongrass and hey, an almost funky sour note sitting way in the back as well and a small touch of alcohol. Really surprised me with a the depth it had. mixture of wheat, yeast and hops. Nice pepper like tones on the tongue, mixed with lemongrass and a wonderful light apple like yeast flavor. Loads of wheat and hey and fresh cut grass flavors. The finish was super dry with an all too familiar lightly sour note tucked in way at the back. nicely carbonated with a good amount of smoothness to it

Bottled 4/2010

A- Beautiful orange color. Not really much of a head, but a nice lacing once everything settles. Champagne like carbonation from the bottom.

S- Some sweet fruits. Banana, orange. Some spice like cloves. Also smell some alcohol.

T- Very sweet. The sweetness attacks my palate. Orange, lemon. I can taste some belgian yeast too.

M- Medium thickness

O- I was expecting more out of this, but not too disappointed. I never had a fresh batch but I expected something a little better. However, I enjoyed it a lot. I can't tell it's American at all. I probably would try this again though.

Thanks to mikesgroove for sending this bottle my way!

A: Pours a rather hazy orange color with a small white head that dissipates quickly. It leaves behind a ring of foamy bubbles on the outer edge. Nice white lacing.

S: Rather sweet with a good bit of fruit aromas. Some banana, orange, and apple. The belgian yeast comes through for sure and to a lesser extent some clove/peppery spices.

T: Nice combination of flavors, some orange peel, lemon, and banana. There is a slight floral/grassy hop component in the middle. Nice subtle spices that aren't in your face like some other tripels I have had.

M: Medium bodied, but feels light for the style, but not in a bad way at all. Nice carbonation.

O: A very easy drinking tripel. For 9% its goes down smooth with a solid flavor profile. Would actually be quite refreshing on a warm day I think.

I poured this one into an old snifter of mine out of a bottle that I have had chillen around the house for about 6 months.

A: A very light opaque golden orange with a rather small white foamy head that leaves quickly leaving a small ring around the top of the beer.

S: A bit yeasty with a nice floral note to it. With a mix of malts and fruit.

T: It has mellowed very well with its age. It has a little bit of spice with a touch of hos but nether one is overwhelming. It has nice touch of a caramel malt note as well.

M: It is rather light bodied beer with a good amount of Carbonation.

D: Went down way to smooth for being 9% Abv could see myself sitting down and drinking way to may of these in one sitting.

Slightly hazey golden color with a very small head that did not last for even a minute. No lacing or bubbles left behind. I am 2/2 with poor Mother Earth appearances. Sweet malt aroma with hints of fruit and yeast phenols. Mildly hopped with a touch of grass and flowers. No surprises in the flavor that was not detected in the aroma. More sweet than most tripels and not as vinous. A good dose of yeast phenols and some floral notes in the finish. Good flavor but nothing I would say is outstanding. If this beer had better carbonation, I would have no problem giving a good score. Nice body otherwise. Another beer hurt by poor carbonation/bottle conditioning. Good aroma and flavor otherwise.

Thanks ewright!

A: A hazy orange color. Me thinks this is bottle conditioned given all the haze.. Nice white head, that dissipates into a white ring.

S: Some booze in there. Sweet with berry and wine notes. There is a bit of a bready/flour scent in here as well. Something floral and slightly earthy in this. Wondering if it is the hops. A beer I could spend a while sniffing, and keep finding new things in.

T: Strong berry flavors, sweet, and some definite yeast character. This almost has a sweet champaign thing going on. Good, but a bit sweet.

M: Medium bodied, carbonation is pretty good. Very dry.

D: Tasty, but almost cloying. I definitely enjoyed trying this out.
