Poured a dark golden body with minor reddish tint with two finger head that dies quick. The aroma hits me of both yeast and orange, along with peppery spice, and then touches of both alcohol and possible tropical fruits. The beer has some interesting tastes along tropical fruit and peppery spice lines, as well as some sugary sweetness. Only problem with beer is that the alcohol cuts into it a little and the hops are strong and bitter citric. Due to this imbalance it's just not a beer that I really enjoyed.

Friends brought me a bottle up from NC, bottled May 2011. Poured into a snifter, the beer is a hazy, opaque, amber-tinged light brown coloring with a thin, sparse, white filmy surface coating. Nose of peach, pear, and pineapple, with a subtle woody character underlying, all-spice, coriander, and hints of booze. Flavors of creamy smooth fruit blended with hints of vanilla and a smooth, oaky highlight. The fruit remains tropical, but the creamy touch gives it an almost gelato character. Very well balanced. The spices and booze do a great job of cleaning up and corralling the sweetness, with a kick of cinnamon and nutmeg. The body is smooth and robust, and the spicing at the end does give it a touch of sharpness into the finish. The aftertaste is spiced and fruity, like a good fruit cake. The finish is smooth, and as I said before, it becomes crisp from the spices, leaving the palate clean, aside from a subtle spicy linger. Very solid brew, and easy to drink, which could be trouble with the elevated ABV.

12 oz bottle served in a tall snifter.
Cloudy light copper body topped by a decent but not great head.
Aroma: soft ripe fruits; alcohol esters; baked bread. High complexity.
Flavor: rich and complex; lightly sweet with light bitterness in the finish. High ABV apparent but seems fitting. A surprising, and surprisingly strong, caramel note.
Feel: medium body and medium-light carbonation. Not hot but the high ABV is largely apparent
Overall: unusual but tasty tripel. Recommended.
