The last quadrupel I had was sort of a strange one. "scaldis" aka bush ambree. That beer reminded me more of samichlaus, both in looks and overall taste, than what I'm used to for a quad. It's nice to see, right from the pour, kasteel is more what I expect from the style.
Deep, dark brown body with a nice and tan, but short-lived head. The appearance is a little disappointing, but let's give 'er a whiff! Yes. A big, strong, and very boozy nose indeed! It's decent, but a bit one-dimensional. Rum and plum, raisin flavors dominate. Nice and creamy mouthfeel with a satisfying alcoholy finish. Wow. It's strong. Definitely feeling the effects as I finish the bottle.
This reminds me of one of my all-time favorites, gouden carolus noel / christmas. I'll take that over this, but I'll recommend both for the high abv category. But of the quads I've had, this is one of my least favorite.
