Kasteel Rouge is a blend of Kasteel Donker and cherry liquor. The mix of these two excellent products creates an exceptional soft beer with references to the dark mother beer.

330ml bottle poured into a goblet by freshness date.

A:
The body is likely clear with dark ruby red hue, the pour forms small to medium pinkish head with short retention. It dissipates to some foamy patches on top with no real lace from the dissipation.

S:
Nose is poked by cherries producing tart aroma along with hint of some spice yet slight medicinal.

T:
Even sour cherries seem to predominate through out but there are other components exhibiting. Alcohol ester reveals in the middle yielding some spiciness and sweetness also supporting by sugar, malt and dough. The bitterness from hop, some smokiness, medicinal bitterness and burnt trait moderately pinch trying to balance the edge of tartness from sour cherries.

M:
The body is rather medium to full with a bit chewy mouthfeel, smooth with fine crisp through the palate, dry finish.

O:
Rather strong fruit beer with more depths and characters but it’s still easy to drink anyway.

A: This beer pours a deep red, with little carbonation.

S: It has a wonderful, fruity, and pronounced cherry nose.

T: Sour on the front end. Tart on the back end. Slightly sweet. Surprisingly, cherries do not impart much fruitiness. This particular beer was bottled about 18 months ago, so I think this has everything to do with why so many people have suggested that it tastes like cough syrup. Age does this beer wonders!

M: This beer is slightly dry, and I think the longer it ages the dryer it gets.

O: I intend to buy a few bottles to throw in the cellar!

The appearance is nothing over the top, pours a nice dark red with a lighter head which fizzles out leaving but a trace on the edge of the glass.

The smell is absolutely fantastic. Nice ripe cherries, enough to make you salivate.

The taste follows up the smell with an intense burst of cherry flavour. Almost like biting into a fresh wild cherry.

Light to medium body with mild carbonation, almost goes down to easy. Very sweet with a hint of dryness in the delicious lingering finish. This only results in wanting to take another sip sooner than later.

This one took me by surprise! Not overly complex but definitely a delicious brew. I'd love to have a few bottles in my cellar.

If you ever tried domestic sour cherry liqueur, this is what beer taste like, and smells also. Sharp,a bit sweet, refreshing and strong. Unlike liqueur, not sticky, and feeling on tongue last shorter. Very good after desserts, especially cakes and pies. Besides cherries, slight amount of wood, pine and earth can be felt.

Smell: lots of cherries dark, licorice, a hint of wood.

Tastes: Sweet but not as sweet as lambic, medium carbonation, tart finish, medium density not too watery not too sticky.

Looks: dark red with spots of brown, head becomes a thin layer

Personality: refreshing, you cannot tell the 8%. It’s a sneaky bastard. Get up and you will feel drunk.

Pour: Start pouring low, tilted glass. Finish pouring high to get a reasonable head, about 2 inches. Although the head becomes a thin layer on top and a little clings on the sides. It tastes better at the recommended serving temperature about 40F

Food pair: Drink as a dessert with vanilla ice cream or drink as aperitif. Drinking it will make you hungry.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a Duvel glass. Purchased in Smithfield, RI.

A - pours a dark maroon, cloudy body with a light maroon 2 finger head that reduces to a ring of foam.

S - tons of sweet cherries, tart berries, grapes. Cherries really dominate.

T- upfront it's pretty sweet with cherry juice and tart berries on the tongue. The finish has a slightly drying, astringent rindy character.

M- medium body , medium- low carbonation. Juicy

I'm a sucker for a cherry beer and this is nothing more than a cherry bomb. One- dimensional but delicious. Would buy again.
