Served at a few degrees above fridge temperature in slender lambic glassware, the bottling date reads 080620 (June 20, 2008).

Appearance- This beer pours a rich, burnished gold with lots of tiny bubbles streaming from the bottom of the glass. The head rises two fingers tall, then retreats to a thin but contiguous mat. Areas of patchy, slick lacing drape the interior.

Smell- An outstanding funky, tart nose completely sets the stage and is about as good as any high-end gueuze I've ever come across. The funky barnyard aroma and sour cherries bring back memories of when I first discovered this style... Oude Gueuze was the beer... and fell in love with it immediately.

Taste- Entering the mouth, the sides and back of my tongue are braced by the puckering, sour goodness that defines the style. The middle just spreads the love around, encompassing the entire palate in a tart universe of fermented cherries. A gripping dryness wraps things up, priming the salivary glands for the next brigade.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability- Alive and prickly, the aggressively effervescent texture keeps the intensely dry, tart character moving. Of the Castle Brewery offerings I've sampled thus far, I crown this beer king.

Purchased at the LCBO 375ml bottle for $4.75. Served at 5deg C in a tulip.

A- Opens ok. Pours not much head that dissipates to a film within a minute or two. Unfiltered and dark golden color

S- Outstanding!! What a refreshing change of pace. You can smell the sour LOL.

T- Sour and good.

M- Dry and very tart. Super sour. Loads of carbonation.

O- Very good. Completely different from a flavored Lambic but enjoyable. Almost wine like. Liking this style of beer. Looking forward to seeing how it ages

Food Pairing

This nice little lambic went well with... Spicy tuna sushi roll

Enjoy

Pours a nice amber yellow with a decent hit. Good carbonation. Bottle indicates brewed in 2012. Smells like a typical lambic. Taste is typical sour but surprisingly without any hint of sweetness. Nice clean refreshing beer with a sour finish. Not a lot of substance. Lots of unfiltered goodies at the bottom of the bottle.
