Foil and cork capped bottle served in a Unibroue snifter. 2010 vintage on label; 4/2010 stamped on cork.

A: Hazy, cola-colored brown body; a bit murky but not opaque. Tan foamy head quickly settles to a thick ring and some thin 'islands', leaving splotchy lace on the glass.

S: An appealing and sweet mix of brown sugar, dark bread, raisins, prunes and other dark fruits, caramel, and some spicy Belgian yeast. Some alcohol tones and a hint of molasses or sorghum syrup.

T: Taste is also quite rich and complex, and has a similar character, although not nearly as sweet as the aroma suggests. An exceptionally well-integrated mix of flavors featuring dark fruits, and dark bread. Hints of brandy and yeast. It has a moderately spicy finish with hints of nutmeg and anise. Alcohol is even more hidden than in the nose.

M: Full-bodied, with low+ carbonation; smooth. Only a very slight harshness from the high ABV but, of course, warming when swallowed. [3.75]

Overall: An outstanding quad. Sold 'pre-aged' but may well also have benefited from some further aging in my cellar. Mellow and easy to drink for the style, despite the 11% ABV, yet plenty rich and complex. Highly recommended.

{revised with March 2013 tasting of 2011 bottle}

OMG. Open the bottle and the aroma hits you in the face. Don’t pour inclined into the glass. Pour it like a wine. Nice head becomes a thin film but it doesn’t fade. Dark brown, almost black, see through. Aroma of a giant chunky banana, raisins, some chocolate, liquid bread, a tiny bit floral. Medium body, low carbonation, fruity on top, explosion of flavors in the middle, alcoholic at the end.

A: Pours a dark brown cola colour with 1 finger of sudsy head which quickly dissipates to a thin layer without any lacing.

S: Dark dried cherries, plums, raisons, fig and almonds with hints of dank wet wood. Middle notes of sweet dark malts with mild rum notes on the finish.

T: Cherry cola upfront followed by soaked dried fruit of plums, raisons and plums. Middle of rum, vanilla and wet wood that leads in to a dark rum finish.

M: Medium bodied with snappy carbonation and a dry finish.

O: The most fruity quad I've had, with lots of cherries and dark dried fruit. Less alcohol in both the nose and mouth than what I expected. While less complex than other quads, this is extremely enjoyable and I would definitely seek out again.

The beer has big notes of fruit bread, dark cherries, plums, and dates in the front. There's then a caramel and sweet over ripen banana. There are hints of alcohol and lots of winter spice.

The flavor on the finish is a bit lacking with a lighter medium mouthfeel.

Pomegranate-brown with creamy parchment head.
Fruit cake, glace cherry, cherry and straight booze on the nose – big and sweet.
Toffee cake, dried cherry, some yellow apple, a clove hit, and a spicy end with a sarsaparilla comeback.
Dark candy sugar end and sweet linger.
Med, well chewy, round.

Doesn’t throw like 11% at all. Deep, faceted, BSDA. Sweetness kept in check by spice. A blue cheese beer.

P: Pours what looks like a murky mud puddle. Quickly fading airy taupe head that congregates to the sides like air bubbles from an aquatic beast lurking in the dark depths.

S: Aged fruit roll ups, prune juice, banana baby food, clove, cheap leather, spiced rum soaked plums, raw brown sugar, cinnamon, and spice cake.

T/M: Lots of fruit, apples, plums, prunes all coated with near burnt brown sugar drizzle. Warming spiced booze, bready malt, pecan praline and slight bitterness from the spices. Full lush body that is slightly sticky and gentle carbonation that numbs the mouth toward the end.

O: Top notch! Lush and full of aged fruit flavors. Natural essence to balance the sweetness. I want another!
