My only real knock on this place was all the sensory overload! Just a phenomenal experience all the way around. Greeted by two very helpful souls that genuinely appreciated the fact that I stopped in. I was able to negotiate the racks easily and make my selections with ease. The only downside was I had to limit how much I bought! Just a super place and certainly a must visit, in my opinion.

Nice shop, great selection of NC beers , and friendly staff. Beer shelves are in the back but I advise you check for beer near the front wine display. I was told by an employee they had no Hop Drop 'N Roll but while leaving I found a whole pallet of it near the front display and had to make a second purchase before leaving.

Incredible selection and great prices on many hard to find NC beers. A fedex right down the street if you need to ship home, which you may find necessary!

Great store with a huge selection. Staff was helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. They really know their local selection which is nice. Prices were expensive compared to the Atlanta market. Don't have any other stores to compare it to in Asheville yet on that front. They will sell you singles of most beers too.

Nice selection and decent prices (for Asheville, where things tend to be a bit expensive). Glassware is a bit expensive, but they have an excellent selection nonetheless. Very nice atmosphere. Pleasant place to shop. The staff is quite knowledgeable and eager to help you pick out the right beer (if you are new to the hobby). I was interested in the "auction book" they have where people bid on hard-to-get beers, though for the life of me I can't understand why anyone would pay $80 for two cans of Heady Topper (just sign up with Beer Advocate and swing a trade!).

I live in Asheville and frequently visit the Vintner. The beer bar is superb, routinely featuring rare and hard-to-find brews on tap, including some breweries that typically don't distribute to the region. The service is always friendly and very knowledgeable. The bottle selection is extensive and varied; and for a locally owned bottle store, reasonably priced. I take every beer nerd friend who visits to the Vintner, when in town it is a must visit for any beer lover.

Was in Asheville for the day visiting from SC, so I decided to try out some of the local beer shops. Appalachian Vintner was far and away the best of the bunch. Huge selection of both domestic and foreign beers, and nothing I saw there struck me as being overpriced. The employees were friendly and made you feel welcome, instead of the pretentious attitude i experienced in other stores. Special shout out to Joel for helping with recommendations and finding some beers that were not available to me in the state of South Carolina. Overall an excellent store with good people. If you're in town for the day definitely make a point to stop by.

Great location and selection. Prices were higher than I am use to for some beers, but overall it was cheaper than Bruisin Ales. They have a nice tap selection in the middle of the store with some great beers. I did not like that you could not build your own 6 pack from anything in the store, it was only limited to small selection. A must visit if you want to take bottles home.

I've shopped for beers in NC, SC and OH and this, by far has the biggest selection I've yet been to. Staff is very helpful, inventory is quite large and they have the added value of taps so you can have a beer while you decide what to buy. Easy to get to, just minutes off I-40. If you're vacationing in or near Asheville, it's definitely a "must stop."

Amazing selection of bottles and a great draught line up. Clean organized and stylish establishment. The staff is top tier, very friendly and extremely knowledgable. In all honesty one of, if not the best beer retailers I have been to. A must visit if you're in the asheville area even if you're just looking for a pint. Staff can also point you in the direction of any of the local breweries or beer bars so a great launching point for any beer-cation.

Stopped in while visiting the Asheville region. Awesome place. The entire front end of the store is wine related (although there are a handful of beer displays mixed in here and there), but when you head to the back, you see the C-shaped bar, with about 20 or so beer taps available for samples, pints, and growler fills. Behind the backside of the bar seating are some tables with extremely comfortable seating for hanging out with friends. Surrounding the bar areas are walls of shelves with a huge, expansive selection of beer. I'd be willing to bet they have just about everything that distributes to Asheville available right here. The guy working was awesome. Very quick to offer samples, as well as information regarding events in the area, as well as events happening in the store itself. We happened to be there for a Beer Camp tap takeover, and a food truck pulled in the back parking lot to serve everyone there. Awesome place to go...I can't recommend it enough!

I like Appalachian Vintner. It is my go to beer emporium in Asheville. The staff is well versed, and they know what they have and where to find it. Unique Atmosphere, seems like I'm in one of those boutique grocery stores rather than in a Beer/Wine store. Well done. Wish they had an even larger selection, but then again, not everyone distributes to North Carolina. Also, you can sample (by this I am meaning they have taps open, but you do have to pay) there as well. Easy to find, easy to park, and easy to take home and enjoy.

This store seems to have it all. Its very open in regard to space, but they have a huge selection. Some bottle shops you go into are so jammed up with bottles you get vertigo or claustrophobic trying to figure out what is where. This store had a nice layout. The front of the store was more wine and that sort of thing. I don't drink wine and know very little about it other than I prefer beer over it, although they do have a very nice selection I am sure if that is what you are looking for. As you walk past the center of the store, where they have taps ready for growler fills, you enter a very large and reasonably priced selection of beers. It seems they focus more on the local guys, which is a good thing, but they also have national craft beers and imports. I really wasn't focusing on imports, actually I am almost exclusively American craft these days. Not that imports are bad, but, I have run my course on them and we have some damn good breweries in the US, and in particular the state of North Carolina. They had what I was looking for, did not seem to have restrictions on how many bottles I wanted, although it wasn't all that rare, but rare enough to suggest that some stores may put restrictions on it. The staff was friendly and seemed very knowledgeable, I will return next time I am in Asheville. Too bad they were out of one of the beers I wanted, but so does everyone else! My point is they did have it. So check it out, its a pleasant store to get what you need and maybe some things you were not looking for from some of the local breweries, which we should support. Support local!

Appalachian Vintner has become my go to beer store in Asheville. Great selection of beers from Asheville and other areas of North Carolina, as well as American crafts and Imports. Prices are a bit lower than other places in town (in some instances almost $1 less). Stock seems to rotate well. Best service in Asheville --very friendly, knowledgable and courteous. Also have 20 taps (1 of which is cask) of interesting brews. Don't listen to the hype surrounding the "other"beer store in Asheville -- make Appalachian Vintner your first (and perhaps only) stop.

They have a great selection of bottled beer as well as growlers from Draft. The dejection is great and the prices are in par for craft beer. The growlers are a bit more expensive than you can get at the local breweries but they also have great beers from breweries in other states like terrapin. I got some dirt Wolf today and it is delicious.

Despite the name, this venue may be better known for craft beer. A spacious room has wine (and a few beers) towards the front, and a beer area in the rear. There are some cold cases with bottles and pre-filled growlers, but most beer is warm. In the middle is a fine semicircular bar with a few chooice brews on tap. These can be consumed while browsing the inventory. Speaking of inventory, the selection here is superb, with a wide range of local, US and international beers. Knowledgable and helpful staff.

A = Large, open shopping floor lends to uncrowded, pleasant shopping experience with large craft (including many local and regional brands) and import selection. Only room for improvement is some shelf reorganization to ensure that all products in a brand find shelf space together and perhaps some better regional grouping. Now, here's the bonus that earns a near-'5': There are 20 craft taps and you can drink as you shop in this hybrid on/off-premise store. What's not to love?

Q = Quality is a priority here...from ensuring that products are all within date code, to ensuring that all glassware is properly sanitized/polished to ensure the best draught pour.

S = Service is recognized as key to success here. Retail customers are always approached to see if help is needed and beer guidance (including pairing ideas) is always provided to those who need it. Beer consultants do double-duty as beertenders and you receive the same courteous attention at the bar.

S = Selection is fantastic and focuses on specialty items you won't find at the grocery store down the street. Absolutely no "big" beers...but also very few craft products that would be shared in common with those stores (which accounts for the minimal subtraction of points). Space here is devoted to the most desirable craft/import brands and specific products that are available in this market. Asheville has been dubbed "Beer City USA" because of the number of breweries per capita, and every one that packages their product can be found at AV.

F = No food is served at AV; however, there are some local artisan cheeses, crackers, chips, etc. that are available for purchase and may be consumed on-premise as beer (or wine) are enjoyed.

V = Prices are reasonable given the product selection, but this is not a "value" mega-store (e.g. Total Wines & More; Binny's Beverage Depot). Instead, you get treated right (see Service) and are guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face.

Visited last month on my way out of town. I've been to Bruisin' a couple times, but wanted to check this out for a change.

First, it's probably just beyond what I'd consider a walkable distance from downtown. The store is pretty big, and spaced out - half beer, half wine, which a bar in the middle. The beer selection was impressive - pretty well organized, and probably the widest selection in the city (if not state..)

We picked up a bunch of local beer, and it's all been good. Prices were reasonable and I didn't see anything that looked past it's prime (which is something I might worry about with bigger stores like this one). Decent glassware section too, and service was reasonable enough.

All in all a very good store.

I really liked the place, kind of a low key vibe and just outside of downtown on the way to Biltmore Village. There is a nice bar for enjoying beer on tap as well as a couple of couches. Definitely a place I will be visiting more regularly when I get back to Asheville (now that my brother-in-law lives here).

The beers available for on-premise consumption were served at the proper temperature in proper glassware and served with the right amount of head. The rest of the beers were stored in the back of the store with low lighting and well outside of the are where the light from windows could effect it (windows were tinted as well).

The service at this place was excellent - the staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Had some great conversations about some of the recent beers available on tap, what is upcoming, and what random people from out of down have brought by lately. They were very helpful in letting me know if they had certain beers available without making me search around (I had somewhat limited time but still spent a decent amount of time looking around).

They had a really nice selection of NC beers and good craft beers that are distributed to NC - probably the best selection that I have seen in WNC. Lots of stuff available in singles and bombers. Good focus on Asheville, WNC, and NC brews.

As this was a store there was not food available.

Prices were very fair, definitely in line with other places in NC.

Just did an order online for shipping. Excellent selection and was able to land Black Ops, Imperial Biscotti, and Bad Baptist among some others I can’t find here in Florida. Great selection, although the website does list a bunch of beers they don’t have in stock. Boxing/shipping was pricey but that comes with the territory of mail order. Beer prices themselves seemed about where they should be I guess. Quick and easy shipping. Gotta love mail order for out-of-dist stuff.

Wow what a big store. Off the beaten path but worth a visit.

Everything you can possibley want or can get in North Carolina is in this huge beer/wine store. Also a crap ton of glassware in the front to the left if that's your thing.

Service was awesome, they held some beers for me to come back and get while I was finishing my run.

Prices were appropriate and seemed in line with average.

This is a big store, with the majority of it covered in wine bottles, beer in the back. The beer selection is huge. All of the NC breweries and just about everything that is shipped to NC, good international selection as well.
I also enjoyed being able to order a beer at the bar while shopping, and my wife enjoyed the nice comfortable couch to sit on.
Service was ok, the guy working the bar seemed kind of dry. I tried to start a conversation and ask for a few brewery recommendations around town, but didn't really get much in return. This is the one area that Bruisin' Ales excelled in, awesome customer service. Vintner is however a bit cheaper than Bruisn' Ales.

Overall this is definitely worth a stop if you are in Asheville.
