Gabriels has a pretty impressive slection of beers for a beer advocates needs. Good selction of beer form Avery, DFH, Rogue, Stone, Great Divide, Bear Republic, Harpoon, and many others.
The staff is very helpful and has a pretty good knowledge about their products. If in the beer section and you have a wondering/needy look on your face be sure someone will come up and ask if there is something in particular that you are look for. If they do not have it they will glady order you what ever your fancy.
The pricing at Gabriels is pretty resonable unless you find something rare that not everyone in a college town drinks then you are going to pay a pretty heavy price for it. But sometimes that is the sacrifice that you have to make sometimes to get you hands on a well crafted beer.

I stopped in on my way back from San Antonio, i was impressed with liquor and wine selection just as much as the beer. I bought a rahr sixer, and six of prima pils. good Euro selection, i grabbed a few orvals, and some fuller's. my only complaint is that most of the selection is kept on selves rather than in the fridge. on the selves is were i found the prima pils, it would have been alot better to see that beer in the fridge. my guess is that san marcos has just about the lowest booze tax in the state. overall good and i plan to stop in next time i drive past.

Stopped in at this place on my way from Austin to New Braunfels and was so impressed that I thought it deserves a BeerFly review. Gabriels is conveniently located right off I-35 and is located in a strip mall that has ample parking.
This is a huge store that has a really good craft selection. The beer is located in the right hand side of the store towards the back. They have a lot of coolers stocked with lots of stuff and also have plenty of shelves with room temperature beer. Plenty of locals such as Rahr, Real Ale, and St. Arnolds share space with lots of Victory, Boulevard, Brooklyn, Harpoon, Stone, and Rogue. They also have a ton of Unibroue and various Euro offerings including St. B Abt 12.
The prices seemed to be quite good. I paid $8.49 for a Brooklyn Local 1; $10.99 for a four pack of Harpoon Leviathan; and $8.99 for a Victory Wild Devil. If you pay with cash they give you a 5% discount.
Can't speak too much to the service as I knew what I wanted but the cashier mentioned a few people from BA come in to buy their beer.
This is definitely a good spot if you are going between Austin and San Antonio. The instant freeway access is also quite convenient.
