Pours a hazy golden orange with a firm 4 finger head that towers over the glass like whipped cream. Receding slowy, becoming incredibly chunky, and leaving amazing lacing that almost covers the back 2/3s of the glass.

Citric, grassy hops with nutty malts. The 2nd glass (which was colder) exhibited more piney than grassy hops.

Big on the grapefruit. Bitter tart citrus with grassy hope in the back. Just a hint of sweet malts.

Decently crisp and of medium body. Slightly numbing to the tongue.

A good IPA. Much better than I feared from some of the reviews. Good flavor and aroma with an awesome head. I'd definitely try this again. (640 characters)

12oz can poured into pint glass

A- pours a hazy amber orange color with a small creamy white head that retains nicely after the pour

S- citrus & piney hops with a toasted grainy malt backbone, a hint of grass

T- citrusy grapefruit hop up front eventually transitions into a sweet and bready underlying malt, crisp and grainy finish

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a crisp finish

O- this drinks more like a pale ale. There are some citrusy hop notes, but they need to be a little more pronounced (542 characters)

Plenty of dry grapefruit. Usual for an IPA. Finish is clean, makes one want another sip. Some tang in the aftertaste, but not aggressive. Very American IPA. Could do well with some finishing hops of a high standard to bring the bite forward, or malt to make the abv stronger. I see the medicinal taste from other reviewers, but it's welcoming for the clean palate. Best with a spicy food, like a chorizo taco with fresh red cabbage and avocado. Good, middle of the road IPA. Good camping beer. (493 characters)

I am a regular of the Wolf Hills Brew pub, and I like to support local brewing. All this aside, Troopers Alley IPA is a great draft daily drinker. It has a great citrus nose, and a smooth IPA style grapefruit finish. It doesn't compare to thier Imperial IPA as far as teeth and claws go, but it is much better of a dinner beer.

This is basically all I drink when I go out. If its available. (392 characters)

Got this growler at the brewery a few days ago so the brew is fresh. Poured into a tulip glass. If poured aggressively there is a two finger off white head. Not much head retention but very nice lacing. Color is clear amber. Looks like an ipa.

Smell is grapefruit rind. Maybe a little malt but good citrus ipa smell.

Taste is good. Starts with citrus hop, a little hoppy malt in the middle and grapefruit hop to finish. Tastes like an ipa.

Mouthfeel is good as well. Good carbonation and smooth finish.

Overall a good ipa. Not the best I've had but certainly drinkable. I really wanted to try the Wolf Hills double/imperial ipa but it wasn't available. (657 characters)

Had on tap in a pint glass.

Arrived a slightly hazy copper with a tiny head that I attribute to it being extra cold.

Smells very bready with a big shot of earthy and piny hops.

The taste starts out with a strong hop bitterness but not strong enough to overwhelm the malt. Some caramel and biscuit comes through along with some rye. Earth and pine from the hops is very up front and nicely balance.

Overall I am really impressed with this beer. All the flavors are nicely balanced but my one complaint would be the mouthfeel. It is very watery. If that could be improved I think this would be a top of the line beer. (619 characters)

I really enjoy the hoppiness of this beer. It has lots of hoppy aroma. It also has a very pleasant and pleasing mouthfeel. I tried the beer at the brewery in Abingdon and encourage everyone to stop by during their growler hours to try this and their other styles. (263 characters)

I really enjoy the hoppiness and bitterness of this beer. It goes really well with anything I like to eat, especially a hamburger with peppers or chicken dishes. Delicious! I would strongly recommend trying this one when you find it, it's a wonderful IPA. (255 characters)

Aroma: The beer had a very prominent citrusy hop aroma.

Appearance: A medium goldish copper color. The off-white head had great retention.

Flavor: This is really well balanced with definite grapefruit notes.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth medium-bodied beer that is appropriately carbonated to style.

Overall: Awesome. This is a great IPA that is beautifully balanced while still providing loads of bitterness. Delicious. I'll be drinking one of these whenever I find it on tap. (475 characters)

Edit from a more recent tasting, as the head brewer contacted me directly and suggested I give it another try. It had improved, as the vegetal notes had decreased and there was a little citrus floating around in the nose and taste. However, it still was medicine like. The finish was very bitter with little flavor. I still found this to be very unimpressive. Definitely well below average. I can only think of one IPA I like less.

Served in a pint glass. Nice orange hue, but the head is lacking and fades quickly. Smells medicinal, with windex and a hint of vegetable. Faint for an IPA.

Taste follows smell, with an initial hit of medicine/windex followed by a hint of malt and vegetables. Then a hit of hop bitterness, like chewing on aspirin. Thin in the mouth.

I did not enjoy this beer at all. Finished about half the pint and ordered something else. (859 characters)
