Appearance: Pours dark brown bear black before held to direct light. Head is a darker tan/khaki and super creamy. Ok head retention leaves a small super creamy and dense cap. Moderate carbonation on the pour.

Smell: Coffee syrup up front. Slightly sweet with the syrupy nature of Autocrat. Solid punch of roasted malt with a big chunk of cocoa and bitter dark chocolate. A touch burnt on the back of everything with some solid caramelized malt sweetness. Coffee is a nice compliment, offering some coffee bean in addition to the syrupy concentrated coffee. A touch of Narragansett yeast rounds the whole thing out. A touch of citrus and herbal notes from the hops. A bit of lactose, but it's not cloyingly sweet. Basically smells like mixing a spoon or two of Aurocrat in to a standard milk stout.

Taste: Follows the nose spot on. A touch of burnt and charred malt coupled with a solid roasted malt compliment. A touch of herbal and citrus from the hops, but it's mainly a backing component. Malts are nicely sweet with a nice push of caramelized malts. Yeast adds the associated lager notes, with some grassy elements thrown in for good measure. Coffee has a very faint hint of real beans under the straight coffee syrup. A balance of lactose sweetness with the condensed syrupy nature of Autocrat. Cocoa in abundance with some bitter baker's chocolate. Surprisingly balanced.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Expected it to be a bit smoother, but really drinks like it was hit with lager yeast (which I'm assuming it was). Moderate carbonation. Pretty much inline with the style.

Overall: Coffee milk sucks. This does not.

A deft use of an otherwise awful product. Balances the syrupy nature of Autocrat with a decent base stout. Nothing to write home about, but it's all well-done and that's more than enough.

Pint can poured into a nonic.

Appearance: Pours a deep black with a half-inch tan head that recedes very quickly. Lacing is minimal. The head is smaller than their porter and recedes quicker. Held to the light, some dark red and brown hues are noticeable.

Aroma: I'm a lifelong fan of coffee milk, the Rhode Island beverage upon which this beer is based, so I had high hopes for the aromas. It definitely hits you hard with black coffee, but it doesn't necessarily smell like coffee milk. It's a good smell, but not quite what I'd expected. Smells like a standard coffee ale.

Taste: Yet more coffee. This is a really terrific coffee stout, but the "coffee milk" brand seems more like a nod to RI heritage than a description of the flavor. I've consumed gallons of coffee milk over the years; it was served in the cafeteria of my high school. It doesn't really taste like this. That said, this is a great coffee stout, and it has a milk-like smoothness to it. Supremely drinkable; alcohol is subdued.

Mouthfeel: Easy on the palate with a solid, but not heavy, body. Actually a little more easily drinkable than their porter, in part because of less alcohol and less bitterness. Their porter is terrific, though, I should add.

Overall: I knew I would dig this. It's just such a great concept for a stout. Even if it's more straight coffee than coffee milk, it's an excellent stout. I would love to see them add this to their annual seasonal lineup. It would make a great beer to look forward to every winter. Narrangansett's craft offerings never let me down and this may be my favorite one since the straight-up porter.

Nice head, steady lacing. Looks appealing.

Doesnt really smell of coffee, roast, or anything. Definitely flat aroma.

Not really coffee milk stout in my opinion. Not getting coffee or lactose balance. Not bitter nor lingering aftertaste however, but definitely bland. Needs more malt or coffee.

Too thin in the mouth. Watery.

Overall disappointed. Wanted a good local milk stout but got watery maybe malt liquid.

Can left at my house, thanks for the opportunity Brian!
Pours a solid dark brown with a creamy off white head that persists forever. Aromas of roast, coffee, cream, and a hint of dark fruit and chocolate. The flavor reminds me of Murphy's but add some coffee to it. Earthy bitter roasted grains with a bit of cream and a whole lot of coffee. Medium to thin body with a moderate level of carbonation and a creamy silky mouthfeel. Decent enough brew, but a bit heavy on the coffee without enough body or sweetness of something to back it up.

A: Dark cola color, initially a cardboad dark sandy head, quickly died to nothing though. Some lacing not a ton.

S: Light roasted coffee with cream. Some chocolate biscuity malts. Smells like a cup of coffee from a breakfast joint. I dig the intense coffee smell but as a coffee snob it kinda smells like shittier "gas station" coffee.

T: Fresh roasted coffee, more medium roast, house blend, somewhate bitter. A little caramel sweetness at the end, not much milk flavor.

M: A bit of a slickness, carbonation on point. Light enough that its kinda session-able
.

O: Its OK. Lot of coffee flavor and the price is always right on narrangansett, I wouldnt buy again. The Porter that apparently is discontinued is far better. I loved that beer .

not much aroma, a little nutty if anything; served on tap at Sullivan's in Pawtucket; Thought it was unavailable so wanted to try it; smooth flavor; very drinkable. very little aftertaste. So-so head but left decent lacing. Body was kind of weak. Decent carbonation. Feel it was made to be a flash-in-the-pan RI-thing by adding the Autocrat name to it. I didn't like it as much as I do the 'Gansett Porter. Hope they repeat it next year. Probably comparable to Sam's Winter Lager.

Appearance: low carbonation, 1/4 inch head, clear, dark brown in color

Smell: coffee

Taste: coffee, char, light toasted malt, slight creaminess

Mouthfeel: roasty, slightly sweet, light body, moderate carbonation

Overall: An above average, slightly sweet coffee beer. The coffee is not overpowering. Tasty, but just above average for the style.
