A thirst quenching Summer classic, Narragansett Del's Shandy is a collaboration between two iconic Rhode Island brands. The first Del's Frozen Lemonade stand opened in RI in 1948 using an old family recipe brought over from Italy. Since then, both 'Gansett and Del's Lemonade have refreshed countless beachgoers around Rhode Island and beyond. The Del's Shandy brings all-natural lemon puree, our award-winning lager, and just a touch of sugar together for a shandy that tastes as refreshingly different as a New England Summer.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a light golden color with a small fizzy white head of foam. The head fades fast leaving almost no lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is strongest of a musty lemon smell mixed with a touch of hay and some light grain.
Taste – The taste begins with a slightly sweeter lemon flavor mixed with a bready taste. There is a bit of light herbal and floral flavor upfront, which faders as the taste advances. Toward the end of the taste, the lemon and grain gets a bit stronger, leaving one with a slightly musty lemon taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is light and crisp with a higher carbonation level. For the flavors and the style the feel is good and makes for a more refreshing sipper.
Overall – Not overly sweet, but not super balanced either. OK, but nothing to great. Decent for a hot day

16 ounce can poured into a Duvel tulip glass. No canning info given.

L---Clear, pale amber color. Fluffy off-white head faded quickly to a cap and left ok lacing.

S---Lemon, obviously. Not much else.

T---Taste is almost strictly lemon, no real beer flavors.

F---Light and airy like a lemon shandy should be.

O---Pretty meh.

Narragansett Brewing Co. "Del's Shandy"
16 fl. oz. can coded "F171 13 07:25".

Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a slightly hazy golden colored body beneath a finger's width of white foam. The aroma is, probably not surprisingly, like lemonade. You can smell that there's some acidity to it. It's pleasant and welcoming but one-sided. The taste is a little more complex but not by much, but keep in mind that this is a shandy. It's sweet, there's no getting around that, and it's lemony. The acidity found in the nose seems to have been overtaken by the sweetness and now it's more like lemon flavored soda than even sweet lemonade. I'm not finding any bitterness but it still finishes somewhat dry as the sugar fades relatively quick and doesn't seem to build on the palate. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp, again, a bit like soda-pop. The head held fairly well intially but then dropped to a fairly nice collar; most importantly it hasn't left a whole lot of lacing behind. For what it is it's not bad, but it's really more of a malternative than a beer so keep that in mind.

This is a beer that is exactly as-advertised: it's a lemon shandy. Beer-flavored-beer, with quite a bit of very natural lemon flavor. Combined with a crisp and lively mouthfeel (just a little oily for my preference), and a sub-5% ABV strength, and this is a crushable, refreshing Summer thirst quencher.

Sometimes, you've got to recognize what kind of beer you're buying. For me, this beer really delivers.

16 oz can, no date but some code I can't be bothered to figure out, into Wide Mouthed glass.

Gold color with a creamy white head of 2 fingers. Recedes to zero leaving no lace.

Aroma of lemon candy (lemonheads) and slight hay.

Flavor is hay and coins, with slight lemon candy. The copper penny really keeps coming up.

Feel is wet and mildly carbonated, smooth but not creamy, with no heat.

Overall, my first Narragansett beer, and it's not impressing me. This is pretty much a drain pour. Wouldn't revisit.
