Appearance: Clear with a slight chill haze. Head is off-white and creamy. Ok retention leaves a small tightly bubbled cap with a slightly thicker collar. Some splotches of lacing, but it's nothing stellar. Moderate carbonation on the pour.

Smell: Gummy peach rings and gummi bears. Sweet fruitiness. Some backing tangerine and a big push of grapefruit skin and some flesh as well. Pine needle bitterness runs throughout and asserts itself a bit as it warms. A touch of hop spice and some solid backing alcohol. Malts are big for Narragansett, but not quite as burly as would be expected for the style. Some solid bready elements with a bit of caramelized malt sweetness. Some underlying herbal elements. Really gummy candy.

Taste: Bitter oily grapefruit right up front. Fades to a sweet peach ring with some tangerine. A bit of bitter pine needle and some solid backing alcohol heat. A touch grassy. Super clean yeast profile. Malt backbone is a nice balance, but falls a little short of true parity. Some nice biscuit elements with a cooked and caramelized sweetness. Honeyed toast. Gummi bear. Bitterness lingers over all else.

Mouthfeel: Medium slightly pushing to full body with a moderate carbonation. A touch syrupy and slick on the initial sip with a touch of astringency on the finish. A bit dry overall.

Overall: Better than sitting in beach traffic.

This is better than Narragansett the town. It's a good, not great DIPA. Flashes of flavor end with just bitterness and it could use a bit more, but the price point is solid and the beer is definitely worth drinking.

I found this to be an extremely bitter DIPA, without any particularly well-defined hop flavors and aromas. There was certainly a citrusy bite, more peel than meat. Pale malt provides the body.

Certainly not one of the better DIPAs out there, but it is drinkable, and I wouldn't say it's bad.

Big thanks to Goblinmunkey7 for finding a bottle for me - now that I no longer live in Rhode Island, continuing my streak of reviewing every Narragansett beer is now more complicated

Consumed 9/7/14

A: Medium to burnt orange with some copper - slight chill haze but otherwise clear - pours with a medium sized, white head, fades to a few wisps of a cap, leaves some nice lacing

S: Ripe grapefruit peel and pith - some flesh as well, but mostly this smells like oily grapefruit zest - some orange peel as well - some sweetness and hints of lighter fruits - grassy and herbal with a hint of pine - some pale, but mostly toasted, caramel malts - bready and toasty

T: Big grapefruit with a high level of bitterness- oily, pithy, herbal, leafy, grassy, earthy bitter flavor, and it's not a charming kind of bitterness - I realize this bottle is a little old (as it is September), but I doubt age is the explanation for the abrasive level of bitterness - some malty sweetness - decent malt base, but the alcohol is somewhat noticeable - aspirin-like bitterness just continues to linger

M: Medium body, smooth, mostly clean except for the bitter, boozy aftertaste

O: Less charming than the actual Narragansett town beach

I'm not sure what the brewers were going for with this offering. It's one of the least drinkable beers I've had from Narragansett, and definitely is not reminiscent of a lazy day on the beach. Maybe it just tastes wrong because I'm now living in New Hampshire...

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a large foamy off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, Earthy hops and some citrus.

T: The taste starts out bready with a hearty malt character up front. Then a strong but not over-powering Earthy hops bitterness comes in and strengthens as you drink the beer. There’s some caramel and citrus sweetness that provide a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, strong kick, good representation of style, this is a solid but not quite as harsh 2IPA to drink for a while.

On tap at 2 Bros. Pours a brownish orange with an inch of frothy head. Fair amount of lacing. The aroma is piney hops with some fruits. Smells a bit like fruity candy. The taste is much like the aroma. Piney hops followed up by fruity candy. Maybe peach. Orange and grapefruit peel as well. Very little malt flavor. Finishes with some more pine bitterness. Lots of carbonation with a bit of an oily mouthfeel. Some what boozey. Overall, a decent offering but it doesn't' stand out all that much.

Town Beach pours a hazy orange/yellow with a moderate sized, creamy head on top. The foam fades fast leaving some spots of lace on the glass.

The aroma isn't very strong. Notes of caramel malt, orange and tangerine citrus.

Each sip of this medium bodied beer is slightly creamy, with moderate carbonation. The flavor starts malty with notes of bread and caramel. Some orange and tangerine citrus balances the malt. It finishes bitter with a touch of dank tropical fruit. Once gone the bitterness lingers on the palate.

This is an easy drinking beer, but doesn't have a ton of hop flavor or aroma.

Better than it has any right to be.
In a neat trick, the flavors are reversed.
Starts off sweet and malty, followed by sharp hops and ends somewhat dry.
Just the right amount of boozy body.
Won't be anyone's #1 IIPA but it should make your top 3.
