A big, rocky two fingers of bone-white head with decent retention throughout. Color was a really light, pale yellow with NE-quality clarity. Nose was really light snd almost non-existent. Mouthfeel was medium with a very light flavor. NOT Ultra Light, but pretty dang close. I liked leaded 'Gansett, but unleaded just does not do it for me.

This is honestly, what you would expect out of this category.

The beer pours crystal clear gold, with a decent head, and some lacing. The aroma is very hard to find, as it's mostly rice and light malt.

The flavor represents this. It's slightly sweet, and there's a heavy carbonation flavor, similar to seltzer. There are no hops.

Out of other light beers, it beats out traditional American Adjuncts, but it's nothing like Sam Adams light, which is my high bar.

12oz. brown bottle.

A: fizzy clear light yellow. Almost no head at all with no lacing.

S: Very watery almost no aroma. Not foul smelling just not much going on. Maybe a little sweet.

T/M: Taste is at a minimal even for a lite beer. Lightly sweet and finishes kinda dry.

D: Not very good at all. Very easy to drink however. I could drink a whole 12 pack of this brew and still drink more. There are better light beers out there.

Drank right from the can, minus a small pour into a glass to get a view of it.

Alright, look, there ain't much to say about 'gansett light. It's lighter in color than regular Narragansett, and lighter in flavor as well. There's a bit of toasted bready malt on the backend but not much flavor to speak of and no real noticeable scent. Light-bodied but narrowly manages to avoid the dreaded adjective "watery".

Eh. It's light beer and tastes like it. Drink a regular Narragansett and spend five minutes on a treadmill.

Poured from a 12oz. can into a pint glass.

The color is a light yellow/gold with a slight finger of foamy white head that is gone quickly after the pour.

The smell was muted and hard to find with small hints at corn and what may have been a little crystal malt aroma in the far background

The taste was pretty light as expected. More light malt flavor that hangs there in the back like a curtain dividing things up a bit. There was some watery corn or rice flavor then slight sting of bitterness comes out after crossing the line into the hop part of the flavor at the end

The feel of this beer is light and crisp with a dry finish. It is pretty drinkable and goes down easy with little effort. This makes for a good summer time beer.

The aroma is very light but that was expected. There is a hint of hops and adjunct malt but it's mostly metallic and floral. The taste is not offensive it's just malt, metal, and water. The appearance is pale gold with a large head. The plate is thin. Overall this is about what I expected. It's an average light lager.

From 07/26/13 notes. Had this at Pier 26 in NYC at the Bouncing Souls/Gaslight Anthem show.

a - Pours a hazy medium orange-yellow color, with one inch of bright white head and high carbonation evident.

s - Smells a bit skunky. Also some bread, grains, wheat, and dough. Not very good.

t - Taste is much better because no skunkyness, but pretty average. Tastes of grains, wheat, dough, biscuit malts, bread, light spice, light floral notes.

m - Light body and high carbonation. A bit too carbonated, otherwise easy to drink.

o - Overall a below average light beer. Nose was a bit skunky, and a bit overcarbonated. Taste wasn't skunky, but pretty plain and not much going on. Worth skipping, wouldn't seek it out again.

A- Light straw yellow... really, the color is the same when it comes back out...

S- Very light nose, some malty sweetness

T- Very little flavor, I guess some more of the malty sweetness

M- Light bodied, light feel

D- Washing down a pizza as I write this... and it's perfect for that

Pint can poured into a 12 oz. glass.

Appearance: Pours a light straw color with a half-inch white head. Heavy-duty carbonation, and also fairly heavy lacing. Looks like light beer.

Aroma: Smells like a light beer, but less off-putting than most. The adjuncts (mostly corn) do come through, but they aren't overpowering. Also some barley, grain, and minimal hops.

Taste: It's decent for a light lager. It's light of body and the flavors are pretty minimal. I'd much rather have this than a BMC light lager, but it's also pretty watery and flavors (which follow the nose) are faint.

Mouthfeel: Watery, as you'd expect.

Overall: In the land of the blind the one-eyed light beer is king. If you have a friend who swears by Coors Light and Bud Light, turn him or her on to this. As light beers go, it's as good as the style is likely to get.

Pours a light yellow color with a one-finger head and seemingly ample carbonation. Aroma is light and mildly malty with sweetness and corn showing through. Taste is malty with only a tiny bit of hops or sweetness. Finishes clean and dry on the tongue. Not much else for taste to this lager. It'd make a good lawnmower beer but I wouldn't buy it again.

Pretty big fan of this company. For what they are, they do it right.

A-Light yellow color with a foamy head. Looks like a BMC beer but the head is a little more legit.

S-Now you can tell this is not your average light lager. A bit heavier nose but still very light. A tiny, tiny hop scent is there...maybe.... nope, I take that back. Light maltiness and grain. A bit of metal from the can. Not awesome but smells more like a beer than most other light lagers.

T-Clean, and light. More flavor than BMC light beers I believe. Tastes like a normal light lager but with a considerable amount more flavor.

M-Very light. Well carbonated. Crisp.

O/D-Yes this is drinkable. Can kill a 6-pack of pounders too easily. I love normal Gansett Lager. This is worse. But, I would take this over almost all light lagers I have come across. The only light beer I like better is Sam Adams Light. Good job boys in RI.

A: The beer is clear light yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that died down but consistently left a thin head covering the surface.
S: There are light aromas of corn and grainy malts in the nose.
T: The taste is very similar to the smell and has no distinct bitterness nor sweetness.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite flavorful for the style and isn’t thin or watery. I would have no problem knocking back a few of these at a ballgame.

From the 16 fl. oz. can marked 1891-0017. Sampled on November 23, 2011. The pour is the typical light lager pale yellow with a short lasting fizzy head. The aroma is of malts, corn, and a hint of hops, which is very typical. The body is light. The taste is on the grainy sweet side with a clean hop finish. All in all, a typical light lager but a little better than its national counterparts.

Tall boy into a classic Schlitz pilsner glass.

A: looks like a typical light lager. Straw yellow in color, poured aggresively with two fingers of bone white head that fades to a skim and leaves a bit of lacing.

S: Light grainy smell, some cereal and bready malts, nothing offputting here at all.

T: Much like the nose, sweet graininess, very light grassy hops. Its basically a watered down 'Gansett Lager.

M: Very crisp and refreshing, light bodied, clean and dry. Drinkability is super high, finished the can very quickly.

O: A nice light lager, certaintly better than any BMC conterpart. Goes down with ease, very low abv, bring it to the beach or golf course and drink it all day, and night.

Poured from a tall can with a wide mouth into a shaker glass. Cotton-white head goes from an inch down to nothing in about three minutes, absolutely no lacing on the glass. The beer is very pale yellow and looks like something Greg Hall would leave behind at Bangers & Lace.

Aroma is macro malt and not much else. MAN this is really hard to review... it just doesn't take like much. I don't get hops, I don't get really anything. Pretty much everyone has had a macro light lager, and this tastes like a watered down version. Carbonation is fairly high but it still goes down super easy.

This beer would not be my first choice, but so drinkable that it's almost an afterthought. And really, that's what I look for in this style. I want something light that I can drink 6 (or 12) of while cooking on the grill, playing cornhole, sitting by the fire, etc. There are light beers out there that taste bad; this one honestly tastes like next to nothing, which is better than the alternative.

I got this brew in a trade with woodychandler, Thanks Woody!

16oz can served in a standard pint glass.

L - clear yellow color with a short-lived white head.
S - light, sweet smell
T - as with most light beers, this has average taste (or lack there of) for the style.
F - light bodied with a light feel.
D - this is very sessionable, great for washing down pizza or beer pong.

Out of a bottle this beer was a bright yellow color. The snow-white head was billowing at first but quickly died back to a thin skim that left moderate lacing. The aroma was of macro malt and corn mash. The flavors however were pretty good for the mass produced style, pale malt, slightly askew hops and hints of metal. The finish was dry and crisp. The body was light, the mouthfeel prickly due to high carbonation and though superior to its counterparts it's not one I would try again.

Review adapted from notes taken 3/10/11

Appearance: Very light, pale, golden - a nice little head - typical for the style

Smell: Truly challenging to comment on because there isn't much here - water, faint pale malts, hops? - still, at least it isn't offensive in any way

Taste: Quite literally tastes like a watered down Narragansett Lager - it shares all of the characteristics, it is just lighter - super pale malts, a little grainy, some dryness, some sweetness, a little bitterness - not much flavor, but what is here is still much better than a lot of light lagers

Mouthfeel: Very light, remarkably not over-carbonated

Overall: A typical light lager doesn't get much better

As far as cheap light beers go, this is quite possibly the best. While I do not feel it is a great beer, it is remarkably better than some others of the style. I liked it enough to bother reviewing it.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a pale yellow color, with a very thin white head that fades very quickly and leaves very little lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is simplistic and consists mostly of light malts and a decent amount of hops for the style.

T: A thin, grainy malt character dominates the taste as you would expect from a light beer, but there really isn’t much sweetness. There’s a mild hops presence but it’s good for the style. The after-taste is slightly bready.

M: Crisp and very smooth, light body, medium carbonation, clean finish.

D: Tasty, goes down quite easily, not filling at all, good representation of style while maintaining a bit more flavor than most light beers. Given the choice I would go with the regular version, but it’s still a decent beer.

16oz can poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a crystal clear light pale yellow with a moderate white head. Just a bit of visible carbonation in the body. Head dissipates in a couple minutes a leaves some spots of lacing on the sides of the glass.

S: Pretty standard light beer aroma here. A bit of corn or other adjunct blends with the malt. Slight touch of alcohol on the backend.

T: Nice even low key flavor here. Nothing stands out in it which I'm thinking was their goal. Just a mild dose of sweet malts that linger into the aftertaste.

M: Certainly fits into the light beer category mouthfeel wise. Crisp finish.

Overall this is a beer that could be enjoyed for hours on end on a warm summer day. Easily beats other light beers I've had with its inoffensive and smooth flavor hence the slightly above average rating.

This beer poured a very pale straw yellow colored body with a small white head.

Nose is surprisingly big and in your face. A very strong adjunct type 6 row malt smell with touches of rice. Reminds me very much of some big Japanese lagers.

Taste is light bodied with a very big and chewy adjunct 6 row malt taste. Very clean and crisp. Lots of mild crackers and fresh malt. Touches of rice or corn. No hops or bitterness to speak of. Ends. :-)

Actually a really good beer. This is honestly what I would imagine a pre-prohibition lager might taste like. Simple, light and at like 4.50 for a 6er of 16oz, may be the best beer deal on the planet. I'd take this over bud or miller any day.

appearance - perfectly clear, light, pale straw color, decent head that fizzles away rather quickly.

smell - straw, grains, light spiciness...what do ya expect from a light beer?

taste - grains, light hop spiciness, its good for a light macro. Better than Bud, Coors Light, etc....nothing notable, just better than the others.

mouthfeel - this is where its A LOT better than other macro light lagers. It actually has some body and isnt overly carbonated like Coca Cola, as per the usual suspects of this genre.

Drinkability - Very much so. I think Ill crack another on this hot summer day.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium straw yellow with some light amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall creamy white head that reduces to a moderately thick film covering the entire surface of the beer with a much thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Overall this beer has a mild aroma. There are elements of light graininess (adjunct malts), some bready malts, and a light hint of grassy hops.

T: This beer is quite refreshing and not as sweet as I expected (which is what I normally find in the style). The flavors follow the smell, light grainy malts and hints of grassy hops. Pretty well balanced.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin/watery and crisp.

O: Extremely easy to drink, quite refreshing, and very enjoyable. This is a great beer for summer, when it is real hot and you want a "light" and easy to drink beer. Very sessionable, you could easily have a couple of these in a single session.

Poured from a 16oz can, a extremely light straw yellow, clear. Big pillowy white head that faded slowly for the style and even left a thick film cap.
Smell was light malt and a bit of corn maybe, wet paper as well.
Taste was very light maltiness no real hop presence, that wet paper smell turns into more of a wet paper soaked in sugar kind of thing, which as the best I can describe as it actually is a pleasant enough taste.
Mouthfeel this feels like water with some carbonation, light lager this be her.
Drinkability well if this was local and cheap I'm sure I'd keep plenty around and would be a great beer for camping or a summer festival.
Thanks Woody

Pint can into a Duvel tulip. Left over from a sixpack I picked up after a day of surfing at Narragansett beach. It tasted pretty damn great after a long day in the water; we'll see if it holds up under closer inspection.

A: Clear gold body under two inches of dense white froth. Good retention, plenty of soft lace. Quite lovely for the style.

S: Boring but clean: crackery malt, toasted corn, and some faintly flinty lager yeast. Better than average for the style.

T: Follows the nose precisely - predominantly malty, a little corny, and ultimately clean with light minerality on the finish. Watery aftertaste. No off flavors, which I consider something of a triumph for a light beer.

M: Light, thin, and prickly. A little overcarbonated.

O: I hate the regular 'Gansett Lager, but this is entirely inoffensive. Light, refreshing, and downright pleasant for the style.
