Bought as part of a case of 24 oz cans from Beers of the World on 9/21/13.

poured from a 24 oz can into a mug, served cold.

appearance: light orange with a 1 finger cream colored head. Very nice lacing.

aroma: very malty, reminds me of pancake batter.

mouthfeel: solid, good.

taste: a cloying sweetness grows with each sip. Not much balance here.

notes: my least favorite Naragansett beer.

Pint can poured into a tankard.

Appearance: Pours a bright orange with a big, thick head (about two inches) that recedes to film over about seven minutes. Carbonation fairly heavy and lacing moderate.

Aroma: Smells like caramel, toasted, buttery bread and sweet malts. Also some piny hops in there, and a floral character.

Taste: Very tasty marzen. The taste follows the nose, but is bolder. A sweet caramel character dominates, but toast and malts are also very present. Definitely a solid German-style lager. Finishes strong, too.

Mouthfeel: The body is just right. Just dense enough.

Overall: This is definitely worth seeking out among the parade of marzens that hits the market every fall. It stands out because of it's malt-forward character and because it's a pretty solid buy (six tallboys for around $9-$10). The sweetness is there but it's far from overpowering. I paired this with pupusas, plantains and rice & beans and it was perfect; I love pairing Latin American food with German-style lagers. I'd have this again for sure - next time probably in season (found it on sale among fall remainders).

Thanks to surge1311 for sending this one! Reviewed from notes. Poured from 16 oz. can into a Russian River pint glass.

A: Nice gold, nearly clear with a bit of chill haze and a thin white head that fades fairly quickly. Good amount of visible carbonation.

S: Malty sweetness primarily - cracker and bready malts with yeasty aromas. A touch of toffee and caramel, and almost a honey aroma as well. But none of these add up to any overly sweet or cloying aroma.

T: Follows the nose very closely - lightly toasted malts, the honey and caramel sweetness is restrained, with a lager clean finish. As it warms a bit, some more slightly fruity yeast esters and a touch of grassy hops show up.

M: Light body, carbonation sensation is on the low side, and minimal alcohol presence.

O: This was pretty tasty for an Oktoberfest beer. There are others around that are better. But still, there's nothing wrong with this one. If it were available here, I'd grab some when I was in the mood.
