American Blonde Ale |  4.20% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
Narragansett Summer is a light session ale made with two row pale malt and citra hops. The citra hops are a very popular, newer variety that deliver aromas of citrus and passion fruit without overpowering the taste buds. The beer is blonde in color and the mild kiss of the hops complement the pale malt perfectly, making it extremely drinkable.

Serving: Can, from the can
Served: 3 June 2014

Appearance: Had this from the can, so can't comment much on the appearance. Can artwork is great though.

Smell: Traditional "beery" smell, but very sweet and with a slight overlay of hop aroma, though it is not strong enough to discern any true notes from it.

Taste: A nice light-bodied beer on the sweeter side with a slight assertion of citrus hop flavor and a mild bitterness on the back end. A beer that is unpretentious in its flavor, but assertive nonetheless, with a solid flavor profile for a beer that is meant to be easy-drinking and sessionable.

Mouthfeel: Medium-high to high carbonation brings the lighter body some life.

Overall: Better than the Narragansett lager, and a bit more expensive, coming in at just over $8/sixer here in Boston. However, for this price and quantity (16oz cans), I'd be hard pressed to find a better sessionable summer beer that doesn't blast me with hops. Would definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for a party/BBQ beer.

Sampled at the B/A Craft Brew Fest on June 3, 2011. The pour is a hazy golden-yellow with a bit of a fizzy white head. Up front on the nose there seems to be a sweetish malt character above anything else with a little hint of citrus zing. The body was a bit better than average in the medium range. The taste was quite sweet at the start but then evolved into a butternut, citrus circus and a slightly dryer finish. Pretty good summer.

Very tasty! got a 6-pack of 16oz cans for me & my uncle, (a former Narragansett brewery worker from the old Cranston RI days) we both thought it was a very good beer.
Poured a straw yellow with a nice white head & sharp aroma taste hoppy with citrus in the background. Crisp taste.
To bad i found these late in the season would have been my summer choice.

From the tallboy into Sam's Perfect Pint.

'Gansett summer is a nice bright golden color with a good and foamy white head. Very nice lacing is left on the glass.

The nose has a fairly distinct graininess to it. A slight touch of hops as well, nothing that really jumps out at you but pleasant.

A nice bready malt taste at the front gives way to a nice hop bite. There isn't anything overly complex going on here but it makes for a very refreshing drink on a hot summer day.

Light body with medium carbonation and a clean crisp finish, refreshing to say the least.

This is a great summer brew from the guys at Narragansett. There seasonal brews continue to impress me. I've probably bought a case of this so far this summer and there is most likely another six pack on the horizon.

A: Pours a clean straw color with a fluffy white head that holds pretty well and leaves very good lace.

S: Nice citrus hop note with a hint of breadiness and a light bit of pine.

T: Very bready malt presence with a pine and a bit of lemon zest in the end.

M: Very thin and a bit watery, but the finish was pretty clean

D: Drinkability is high and this is a great beer for just sitting on the beach. i found it to be more enjoyable straight from the can then when poured and I am glad that i have a case to tide me over for memorial day weekend

Served on tap at Two Brothers Pub in Salem, CT.

To be honest my first impression wasn't that great, but as time went on I did come to appreciate this one more. Poured into an 8 oz. tester glass, little head that dissipates quickly; nice light yellow/golden color. Smell is of citrus and those notes come through on the taste a bit. At first it tasted a little flat maybe, or lacking in any strong taste at all, but for a summer-y beer it's actually not too bad. The carbonation was certainly there. Nothing here blows me away though. Overall a crisp and refreshing beer that I could certainly drink a lot of, and isn't this the point of a summer brew?

Hello, Narragansett, I didn't see ya standing there.

A: Straw gold. Only poured out a little, so didn't get this best look at her. Seemed pretty enough. Dressed in a pretty blue can.

S: Lightly piny hops with a subtly floral perfume.

T: Wow. Hops are the thing you'll notice here. Narragansett Summer is frontloaded with them, and while I'm not a hopdhead, this manages to not be a bad thing. She's not in your face about them and doesn't leave you bitter. Pale malt is the second thing you'll notice. Kinda flipped my world upside down.

Summer is a simple girl. She's only got two notes and she plays 'em backward but balances 'em beautifully.

M: Light with lively carbonation that manages not to be too fizzy or ticklish.

O: I'm not normally a fan of summer brews, but 'Gansett made a wonderfully refreshing beer here. Hops are noticeable without smacking you over the head, which most hoppy beers do these days, IMO. Pretty and simple.
