Pours up a translucent clover honey color with a very short-lived bone white head. Very few streamers of carbonation. Good honey-drizzled biscuit aroma with some hops and glimpses of freshly sliced red apple. Light mineral wafts and faint dusty yeast notes, as well. At first sip, the hops seem a touch harsh (not bitter, but melded with carbonic acid). Some pink grapefruit rind flavors blend nicely with a weaker pale malt sweetness and a fruity, lightly hoppy, dry finish. A little slick on the tongue as the carbonation is on the lower end of the spectrum, but suits the ale nicely. A pretty nice pale ale; Breckenridge labels it a "Classic English Pale Ale", BA lists it as an APA. I'd have to agree with the Bros., it's too hoppy and not malty enough to be considered an English Pale.

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.

Poured chill hazed dark copper hue with a half finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and good lacing.

The smell featured light pale malts and a grassy hop.

The flavor featured both pale and darker German malts and a balancing grassy hop.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall a decent well balanced pale ale. Straddles the line between the English and American styles.

probably the best everyday beer from breck, this pours a nice darker honey to amber color with a finger of lasting head. the nose is very fresh citrusy hops, fairly bitter, but balanced out by a sturdy English and American caramel malt backing. the flavor of this beer is welcomingly hop forward for the style, even more so than most, with a burst of fresh hops, less citrusy than they smell, but still pungent in that regard. mild acidity too, not sure where it comes from, but it gives the beer a real refreshing snappy vibe. bitter in the finish, really crisp, and to me this is the ideal session beer. full of flavor and character but not overwhelming. I will be going back to this one, not sure how it had fallen through the cracks before for me... upbeat carbonation and a body that's squarely medium, everything in beautiful balance. this is a great session beer for people who like their daily drink a little more hoppy than most. bravo to Breckenridge for this style defining American pale ale.
