Acquired from Dunt in the Support Your Team BIF so a big THANK YOU goes out to him!
Poured in to a pint glass
A: This beer pours hazy burnt orange with a one finger of creamy, khaki colored head. Head recedes relatively quickly leaving sheets of lacing on the glass.
S: Nose is sweet caramel malts, a touch of biscuit, major grapefruit citrus notes, and a touch of alcohol.
T: Taste starts with a caramel malt sweetness, hints of molasses, before giving way to a light grainy/biscuity-ness that keeps the middle nice and light. Finish is where the grapefruit bitterness really takes over. It is a massive dose of grapefruit citrus hop bitterness takes over and lingers. Alcohol warms the whole way down.
M: Medium body, medium carbonation, crisp, clean body with a dry finish.
D: Goes down relatively easily, not too filling, nice kick, nice representation of style. There is quite a bit of alcohol wamring to this beer. A bomber is more than sufficient.

A: not much head, nice lacing though. Dark amber in color
S: maybe I'm a bit congested or something but I don't get much on the aroma.
T: very good. This is an interesting beer because the initial taste is boozy with raisin flavored like a Belgian double or something but then you get that hit of citrusy hops which finish with an intense and excellent bitterness. Good.
M: nice. Light and then bitter finish is very pleasant
O: this is a solid beer...interesting because of the booziness while still maintains hoppy character

The pour was a nice typical high IBU orange hue. The head lasted but only a few seconds.
But there was no question about hops here. Lots of different hops all coming out at once.
Once I got past the aroma, my first sip verified what my nose was saying. It was a nice dry bitterness, grapefruit, pine tar and citrus spices. But then, what else? that was it, there wasnt anything else. I wanted some malt to balance the bitterness, but with this beer, I just got bitterness without any roundness .
Even though this was a mid range IBU (70), the taste presented itself as being higher, but without a lot of the typical high IBU styles.
So, I walked away from this one with mixed emotions.
