Purchased on Mike Brawley's expert recommendation in Charlotte. Cheers, Mike! You haven't let me down yet.
Pours a gorgeous mostly clear yellow with amber highlights and a fat, dense foamy head that coats the glass entirely as it falls. Simply divine.
Ever had 90 Minute from Dogfish? Yeah, it smells like this. Tremendous, grapefruit-citrus-orange hops simply dripping with sugar and malt. Pungent, yet sweet and refreshing. Mouthwatering, really.
I take a gulp and smile. This isn't *quite* 90 Minute good, but it comes within a Florida vote. 471 is sweet and creamy, with a huge, bold hop presence and a massive bitter grapefruit profile. It's a fairly simple beer, but superbly crafted. It manages, somehow, to not only defy the stated 9.2% alcohol content but seems like a... 7%. Wild. The only hint is the warmth provided by the drink as it slides down to your belly.
The finish is bitter and hop sticky, the mouthfeel clean, thin, and finely carbonated. You can easily take large sips of this beer. It's eminently drinkable and goes all too quickly.
Breckenridge has knocked this out of the park. 471 is a great, simple double IPA that somehow manages to be a session beer. This is better beer than Hopslam. No, really. Don't believe me? Get some for yourself. Mike can hook ya up.
