22oz bottle (imprint on the bottle...think its telling me it was bottled 7/8/10) poured into a Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a clear, light to medium amber color with 2 fingers of dense cream colored foam with excellent staying power. Thick sheets of lacing left on the glass as the foam slowly fades. Beautiful streams of carbonation bubbles rise constantly throughout the glass.

S - As soon as I opened the bottle I was hit with huge tropical fruitiness, especially mangos. Tangerine and some pineapple add to the fruitiness and combine with some rich malty notes (the malt is almost wort-like in aroma...hope this doesn't mean this is way underattenuated...we'll see). Overall, I'm liking the smell a lot, but I am cautious on getting my hopes up for flavor...smells like it might be balanced well to the malty side.

T - Well, there definitely is a strong malt backbone which is rich and full with caramel and maltose flavors dominating. Happily this only serves to form a strong base and there is still room for the hops to put on a show. Lots of pineapple and some mango fruitiness with an assertive bitterness. Has to be a high IBU value here, but this is tempered by the malt presence. A hit of alcohol on the inhale and remains a subtle but noticeable presence on the swallow. Perhaps a bit less malt would be desirable...however, to be fair this has a few months of age on it so maybe they faded a bit.

M - Medium-full bodied with a big malt base. Alcohol is noticeable but not to the point of creating any heat. Hop bitterness lingers past the swallow. Carbonation is mid level, maybe tending towards the high side...gives a strong tingle throughout the mouth.

D - There is a lot going on here in this beer. Big hop and malt presence that battle it out with the malt taking the win by a little bit. Alcohol is on the high side and somewhat noticeable. A pretty interesting DIPA that is a bit out of the norm, but mostly works. Glad to try this and wouldn't mind having another, but I don't need to go out of my way to try this again either.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Acquired this bottle as part of a mixed six pack at the local Binny's. "Small Batch" 471 Double Hopped IPA.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - It pours a nice hazed burnt sienna orange colored body with a nice collection of sediment floating around and some bubbles rushing topside. Three fingers of fluffy foamy khaki head that leaves nice scattered lacing behind. Looks pretty nice.

S - I'm trying to like it so far, but this aroma is really not doing it for me. Subdued grapefruit / piney hoppiness paired with some honey / caramel malt presence, but there is a pungent horseradish type aroma that is really turning me off.

T - The taste is a step up from the aroma, of course. Caramel / toffee malts, herbal tea leaf flavors, grapefruit, pine. It isn't a bad taste, but there isn't much to brag about here.

M - The feel is smooth & fluid. Mild alcohol warmth on the palate. Medium bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, an average, if slightly below average offering from Breckenridge. The effort is much appreciated, but I was let down. I don't know if it was the variety of hops used here or what, but something about this beer was just not doing it for me. I suppose it is worth trying once, but better luck next time, guys.

Came bottled. Inch think head after pur that quickly dissipated most likely due to unclean glassware. Medium to dark orange in color. Citrus/lemon zest on the nose with notes of honey. Sweet on the front that tastes the whole way through but with beautiful bittering hops on the back end. Mouthfeel is medium but goes down syrupy. All around good beer and packs a punch. Hides the alcohol well with its abundance of flavors.
