This is a review of an aged bottle from 07, the bottle was wrapped in foil (to keep the light out) and kept in a wine cooler set around 50 degrees F.
A: Nice burnt orange color with a small bit of particulate matter floating around (yeast probably).
S: Aging did not do good things to the smell of this beer. The alcohol comes through and overwhelms everything else. It smells like brandy or a beer that's been aged in a brandy barrel.
T: Again the alcohol has come through a ton and pretty much overwhelms everything else. If I were to blind taste test this I would probably guess it was a barleywine, and not a great one at that. There's maybe a tiny bit of hop bitterness once the alcohol taste fades, but not much else.
M: Still well carbonated and not too harsh, despite the alcohol flavors that come though. Along with color this in one of the strong points.
D: Alcohol really hurts the drinkability, but it's not undrinkable, I'd call it average. I'd rather drink this than a bud light but it's pretty strong so it's not the easiest to get down:
All in all this didn't fair all that well with aging. It's definitely interesting, but from what I remember of this beer fresh, and from reading my previous review, this hasn't gotten better and has probably gotten worse. None of the citrus or floral hops are there at all, most of what's left is a very strong alcohol flavor. A great beer when it's fresh but not one I'd age again.

A: not much head, nice lacing though. Dark amber in color
S: maybe I'm a bit congested or something but I don't get much on the aroma.
T: very good. This is an interesting beer because the initial taste is boozy with raisin flavored like a Belgian double or something but then you get that hit of citrusy hops which finish with an intense and excellent bitterness. Good.
M: nice. Light and then bitter finish is very pleasant
O: this is a solid beer...interesting because of the booziness while still maintains hoppy character

The pour was a nice typical high IBU orange hue. The head lasted but only a few seconds.
But there was no question about hops here. Lots of different hops all coming out at once.
Once I got past the aroma, my first sip verified what my nose was saying. It was a nice dry bitterness, grapefruit, pine tar and citrus spices. But then, what else? that was it, there wasnt anything else. I wanted some malt to balance the bitterness, but with this beer, I just got bitterness without any roundness .
Even though this was a mid range IBU (70), the taste presented itself as being higher, but without a lot of the typical high IBU styles.
So, I walked away from this one with mixed emotions.
