Sampled February 2014 from bottle in pint glass.
Appearance: Very dark color (not totally black), with a nice thick tan head that lasted a long time.
Smell: Strong coffee aromas, with a smell of some sweet malts. Not much hops aroma. Overall a nice combination of aromas.
Taste: Full-bodied with a nice balance of malt and hops. The malts dominate, but there is enough hop flavor to make it interesting. It also has a little sweetness to the flavor. The combination of hops and roasted malts give this drink a nice balance of flavors. It is definitely smoother and not as 'forward' as some imperial stouts.
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied, but very smooth, almost creamy.
Overall: Very nice stout. Not as strong as some imperial stouts, but I enjoyed the combination of hops and malts, with a very smooth mouthfeel. I bought a 6-pack of this beer, and it is definitely a stout I will buy again.
